To think some celebs fib about the dress size they are so "proud" of?

It doesn't keep me awake at night, don't worry.

But I was just watching some Adele videos and came across an interview with her in which she said she was a size 14-16 and "proud" of it.

I love her, I love her curviness, I think she looks great, I think she wears great clothes and dresses for her bodyshape really well.

But I equally keep looking at her and thinking she's never even a size 16? More like an 18 or more?

Or does she really look a size 14-16 and is it my eyes and I'm being unreasonable?

Not that it's anyone's business, but I think if you're proud of your size, be honest about it.

Vanessa Feltz being proud of her size 12 figure after going on a big diet. Yes, she lost weight, but size 12 my arse.

RobynLou · 29/01/2011 00:15

depends how tall she is? if she's short then she might look a bigger size than she is?

FudgeGirl · 29/01/2011 00:17

She's 5ft 9ins - so pretty tall.

Vanessa Feltz, exactly.

5'9" size 14 would be pretty slim looking imo...

she's def bigger than that.

Hatesponge · 29/01/2011 00:29

I think there's a lot of pressure on celebs to be a certain size, and possibly therefore a compulsion - if they are over a size 14 - to say they are smaller than they are.

I've been told of an ex-eastenders actress who when on the programme insisted she was a 10-12 when at times she was at least a 14, and refused to wear clothes in any bigger sizes, so wardrobe had to sew 12 tags into 14/16 items....

sad really - as someone who has been every size from a 12 to a 22 myself, I would be quite happy to know X was a 16, or Y a 20. it wouldn't make me view them negatively.

manicbmc · 29/01/2011 00:32

Adele has lost some weight. I think she looked better before really.

Size 18 shortarse and proud here though. Grin

RobynLou · 29/01/2011 00:34

oh thats v common with actresses/dancers - I once had a job which was entirely made up of making dancers' costumes a couple of inches bigger - the costumes were made to the measurements the dancers gave the company, we fitted them and made them bigger.

I have no idea why they thought it was better to do that than just admit to the size they were in the first place.

izzywizzywoowooo · 29/01/2011 00:34

I would of thought Adele was around an 18 too, I am a 14, All though I will admit to fitting in to one size 12 top which automatically means I am 12-14...Grin

HaveToWearHeels · 29/01/2011 00:35

FaffTastic you have made me laugh, when I saw ths thread I thought straight away "Vanessa Feltz" I think last time I read about her in a magazine she was a 14, I am a 14 and I carried that magazine around with me and kept asking people if I was really that big lol.

RobynLou · 29/01/2011 00:36

oh and I was an 18 when I got pg...and now I'm 4 days overdue so lots bigger, so no judgement re size from me, just does seem to silly to lie!

YeahBut · 29/01/2011 00:36

Mariah Carey, anyone?

mutznutz · 29/01/2011 00:39

I don't get all the fuss about Adele's size. If you Google it, there's more fuss being made of it by 'Joe Public' on internet forums than there is by Newspapers and Magazines.

The woman can sing, she's by no means fat...a little frumpy dress wise in my opinion but then we all have different tastes.

manicbmc · 29/01/2011 00:41

Um - no thanks Yeahbut. I'd rather not Grin

UntitledNo2 · 29/01/2011 01:06

Ah yes, but there is some truth to the whole 'camera adds 10lbs' myth... I have many photos/some film footage of myself from several years ago, when I was a size 4 - 6, but looked about a size 8 - 10. Gaah, now I am a 12 - 14, but look much bigger in photographs. Anyway, I don't give a shite what size I look now, I'm well fed and happy. Similarly, if a female 'sleb' looks curvy, all the better, she may be a size 14 and look larger on television, but who cares? In fact, if a female 'sleb' looks bigger than she is, maybe she is sending a message that a normal female body is okay? Well, thats what my stretchmarks and I shall assume Grin.

brimfull · 29/01/2011 01:12

yy to camera adding ppounds

I was standing behind a local weathergirl in m&s
i was shocked by how small she was compared to how she looked on the telly
she looked a size 4 in rl and about 8 on telly

iamamug · 29/01/2011 01:12

Me too with Vanessa Feltz!!!!!! First thing I thought - couldn't wait to post and beaten twice! SIZE 12 MY BIG FAT ARSE!!!

(i am a happy 14 - would be a much happier 12!)

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 29/01/2011 09:14

but are they talking in english sizes or americsn (4 sizes smaller than ours)?

ThePosieParker · 29/01/2011 09:19

I'm not proud of being an 8, a 10, 1 20 whatever....weird thing to be proud of.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 29/01/2011 09:27

yy
I am 5'9" and currently size 16

I think Adele must be size 18 at least

StarlightPrincess · 29/01/2011 09:30

Of course they do! The one that really used to annoy me was 'size 8' Coleen Nolan. Size my arse! If she was a size 8, then I'm a size 4!

StarlightPrincess · 29/01/2011 09:31

That was supposed to say size 8 my arse Grin

JaneS · 29/01/2011 12:17

Er, yes, because of course dress sizes are so standardized, we all know exactly what a 12 is. Hmm

prettymuchapixiegirl · 29/01/2011 12:56

I think it all depends on where these celebrities shop. Designer sizes are often much bigger than high-street brands, presumably to flatter the customer into thinking they're smaller than they are.

I am a size 12 at the moment but at only 5ft 3 I actually look quite big as I used to be a 6-8. My step MIL on the other hand is a size 12 but she's about 5ft 10 so looks really slim, lucky cow!
