to be annoyed when "carnivores" eat chips?

It cannot just be me who finds this irritating?

Someone who eats no meat, but does eat chips is a pescetarian. As a friend is a fully fledged carnivore it bugs the HELL out of them when people say "I'm a carnivore, but I eat chips" Or even worse "but I eat chips AND apples".....

The problem is there are now so many of these "chip eating carnivores" that people seem to assume all carnivores eat chips, and when I eat out and ask what carnivore choices there are, I get offered chips and the "true" carnivore options are limited to perhaps 1 or 2 dishes.

I have no problem with people eating just chips but PLEASE do not call yourself a carnivore when you clearly aren't one! I don't know why people do it, whether they think it's trendy or they are just lazy or confused about what they are.

I know this is a BIG rant but it really really annoys me. If I am a carnivore and someone asks me "do you eat chips?" I practically rip their heads off Angry (which I know is unreasonable but there you go )

But AIBU to ask that people only call themselves carnivores if they actually are one???

AmazingBouncingFerret · 28/01/2011 22:53

YANBU because "you practically rip peoples heads off" so i'm sort of scared of you now.

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 28/01/2011 22:54

Oh you are hilarious!!

Not.

If you've something to say why not just say it on the thread?

FabbyChic · 28/01/2011 22:54
Biscuit
scurryfunge · 28/01/2011 22:58

I think omnivore is the word you are looking for. Biscuit

RiojaLover75 · 28/01/2011 22:58

A carnivore (pronounced /ˈkɑrnɪvɔər/), meaning 'meat eater' (Latin carne meaning 'flesh' and vorare meaning 'to devour'), is an organism that derives its energy and nutrient requirements from a diet consisting mainly or exclusively of animal tissue.

You CAN be a meat eater and have chips on the side, or veg even!! D'oh!!

TheSleepFairy · 28/01/2011 22:58

I prefer dauphinoise myself.

RiojaLover75 · 28/01/2011 22:59

Ah f**k it the cut and paste didn't work :-(

Rainydaze · 28/01/2011 23:00

It's a micky-take out of the fish-eating vegetarians thread, for those who don't understand.

I don't really understand the humour though!

Saltatrix · 28/01/2011 23:01

I Have not heard of many people who are strictly 'carnivore' have you confused the meaning of Omnivore?

skirt · 28/01/2011 23:02

oh well I'm proud not to understand. But arent mickey-takes supposed to be funny?

justonemorethen · 28/01/2011 23:03

Clever but not the point.
It is expected humans eat vegtables and whatever carbs grow well in their country - wheat, rice or potatoes. If you eat meat as well you are a carnivore and if not veggie or vegan. No point in saying omnivore because it would go without saying you eat veg too surely.

AnnieLobeseder · 28/01/2011 23:03

Epic fail, I'm afraid. The premise was good but the execution sucked. Sorry.

Have a chip.

justonemorethen · 28/01/2011 23:05

...surely vegetarians that eat fish should be omnivores too...

JarethTheGoblinKing · 28/01/2011 23:09

twatty OP.

Lions don't eat chips.

notinbed · 29/01/2011 04:00

What about chips cooked in animal fat - are they OK for carnivores?

Good grief.

Get thee to pedants' corner!

Mishy1234 · 29/01/2011 06:56

I take it you think they should refer to themselves as omnivores? Took me a while to understand what you were getting at, but don't understand why you find it so annoying.

anonymosity · 29/01/2011 07:09

I get it and found this very funny. The veg thread got far too precious and serious and in danger of devouring itself - which would have been very un-vegetarian, or vegan of those posters concerned.

justcarrots29 · 29/01/2011 08:01

Smile- I liked it. No it doesn't really make sense but most threads on here don't either.

PinkIsMyFavouriteCrayon · 29/01/2011 08:08

Technically I'm an omnivore Grin

StealthPolarBroccoli · 29/01/2011 08:11

cumfy as a non fish eating vegetarian, I agree with you. I don't care how other people choose to label themselves, it simply doesn't affect me.
