to be annoyed when "carnivores" eat chips?

It cannot just be me who finds this irritating?

Someone who eats no meat, but does eat chips is a pescetarian. As a friend is a fully fledged carnivore it bugs the HELL out of them when people say "I'm a carnivore, but I eat chips" Or even worse "but I eat chips AND apples".....

The problem is there are now so many of these "chip eating carnivores" that people seem to assume all carnivores eat chips, and when I eat out and ask what carnivore choices there are, I get offered chips and the "true" carnivore options are limited to perhaps 1 or 2 dishes.

I have no problem with people eating just chips but PLEASE do not call yourself a carnivore when you clearly aren't one! I don't know why people do it, whether they think it's trendy or they are just lazy or confused about what they are.

I know this is a BIG rant but it really really annoys me. If I am a carnivore and someone asks me "do you eat chips?" I practically rip their heads off Angry (which I know is unreasonable but there you go )

But AIBU to ask that people only call themselves carnivores if they actually are one???

Oh god YANBU, someone once offered me a quorn sausage as it was a 'meat substitute' I mean, hello? it's not actual meat though, is it?
I was so offended.

I eat anything that holds still long enough.

cherrysodalover · 29/01/2011 10:26

See the thread on the person who is irked by vegetarians who eat fish to solve the mystery on this one.

Comfy is being marvelously sardonic and quite Kierkegardian and I applaud her/him.

Comfy- brilliant. I was tempted to start a thread myself on a similar line of thought. I am shocked by some of the things people find unreasonable on here. My worst nightmare would be to have all my colleagues made up of the most unreasonable posters on this area of the forum.

hoovercraft · 29/01/2011 10:29

I dont agree. The point has beem missed by not realising humans are essentially omnivores.

BarbarianMum · 29/01/2011 10:32

Technically most humans are omnivores, unless they exclude animal flesh (including fish) from their diets in which case they are vegetarian.

Even in societies where the population gets the vast majority of their energy from animal products (the innuit, tibetans, nomadic mongols) people aren't totally carnivorous.

There endeth the lesson. Use the right terminology people mumble mumble grump arse ....

hoovercraft · 29/01/2011 10:33

Im with the barbarian

now theres a sentence I never thought Id type

TandB · 29/01/2011 10:36

Well I'm amused. But maybe I am just easy to please...

cumfy · 29/01/2011 12:10

I'm sure that most if not all the people who've posted "get" what this is, but just to clarify:

This is just the exact text of pescaterians are not vegetarians thread/title with the substitutions:
fish-->chips (chips being a food even ardent "carnivores" sometimes indulge in)
vegetarian/veggie-->carnivore

I was just intrigued by the way the result, whilst logically identical, seemed absurd.
And it was Friday.

I am a pescetarian who:
would never dream of terming myself a vegetarian,
often choose the vegetarian option,
am amused by "vegetarians" who eat fish
and bemused by people who think vegetarians eat fish.

So I'm not convinced I had that much of an axe to grind.

PS the Dalai Lama is/was a vegetarian "every other day".Grin

I eat meat but not fish - am I a vegetarian too then? Grin

cumfy · 29/01/2011 12:32

SoupDragon · 29/01/2011 12:37

But, as others have said, you do get the difference between carnivore and omnivore, don't you?

pigletmania · 29/01/2011 12:39

What planet are you from! Of course I am a carnivore, I love my meat but I also like chips too, dont be so petty if thats all your are worried about. Ok I am an omnivore as I eat meant and veggies too.

cumfy · 29/01/2011 13:01
