Ask your debit card provider to initiate a chargeback.

If you paid by credit card you cannot do it as it has to be above £100.00.

Debit cards displaying the Visa Logo will allow chargebacks for purchases under £100.

lilasimpson · 28/01/2011 12:24

really? bank said they cannot do it as it was taken already... could only prevent further charge,,,,

Did you pay by debit card? Then yes the bank should be able to do a chargeback, assuming you can prove there is no valid contract between you (the problem may well be that you had to cancel the trial within a few days of it ending in order to avoid paying this charge. If that is the case and you didn't, you may have a problem persuading the bank that it's not a valid contract)

If you paid directly from your bank account (e.g typed in the bank account details not your card number) then I don't think there is much you can do, but it might be worth ringing the bank again and pleading your case.

Call consumer direct and get advice. It sounds dogey. Even if there was something in small print somewhere, they are not allowed to entrap people into just buying things they otherwise would not have bought with badly worded emails and the like. Its not "fair trading".

the above is a good link to find alternative company phone numbers, so might be worth putting in the number you have & see if it comes up with more

Also as above, it might come under fraud as far as your bank is concerned...I 've recently been up to talk to mine as having problems over a QVC purchaseHmm & I was surprised how keen my Bank were to raise it as a fraud, meaning thy could reclaim the money pretty quickly, otherwise though, they said that if I don't my a refund, then the Bank have the power after 30 days to just take it back
good luck

What is choice white company? I haven't heard of them.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 28/01/2011 17:33

Yes, you probably find in the small print that you had to contact them to cancel within x number of days. Did you do that?

oopslateagain · 28/01/2011 17:34

You can pay £199 to get your teeth whitened privately, it lasts two years if you don't smoke or drink coffee, and the top up charge is £99.00.
