The silly little ones inside the shirt to help it on the hanger....does anyone actually use those annoying things?

I do for slippery fabrics sometimes. Usually I cut them off though

hophophippidtyhop · 28/01/2011 07:28

yanbu, I often put my head through the bigger ones as I'm putting a top on.

RustyBear · 28/01/2011 07:29

I've always assumed they are only there to stop them falling off the hanger in the shop- I just cut them off- after all, the clothes in my wardrobe aren't always being moved about by people looking at the clothes!

Tee2072 · 28/01/2011 07:38

I always cut them off, otherwise they always come out of the shirt.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 28/01/2011 07:49

I generally tend to rip them off with my thumbs. Ouch.
DD likes to tie them to things. Anything. Chair legs and the handle on her hairbrush are favourites.

onceamai · 28/01/2011 07:52

I used them to keep the top on the hanger - if I'm using a wire one from which it will fall off anyway.

JeelyPiece · 28/01/2011 07:57

I sometimes need them to hang up tops with wide necks or they fall off the hanger whenever I'm poking around in the wardrobe. Annoying how they always sew them in so close to the neckline though so they poke out.

When I was a slutty lazy student and lived in a pigsty I cut them off because I left my clothes in a pile on the floor.

Now I am a proper adult with kids and stuff, I hang my clothes up. Deep down inside I know I'll always be a slutty lazy student, but since having no choice but to be organised and tidy after my kids came along the loopy strap things stay on my clothes....

southeastastra · 28/01/2011 08:19

no cut them off as the always end up showing when you're wearing thing, unless it's a dress or something that needs them to hang up properly

TrinityMotherOfRhinos · 28/01/2011 08:20

I yank em off, there are annoying and you have to tuck them in and mess with them

plupervert · 28/01/2011 10:22

I used some to string up my Christmas pomanders! I can't be sure if that makes me a miser or an utter domestic goddess.

Quenelle · 28/01/2011 10:37

I cut them off because they hang outside the top otherwise.

If they're a nice colour I keep them in my 'giftwrap/haberdashery' drawer. Haven't found a use for one yet though.

WincyEtNightie · 28/01/2011 10:39

I cut them off too. The more likely you are to need them to hang your top up (wide necked tops etc) the more likely they are to show when you are wearing them IMO.

Plupervert the use of the phrase Christmas pomanders ensures Domestic Goddess status.

plupervert · 28/01/2011 10:58

Thank you, WincyEtNightie! My own mother was very Hmm about it. I think she is still traumatised by "economical" behaviour (I re-use wrapping paper, too) from my granny (her MIL, whom she hated). The studded satsumas are now in a jar (another re-use) in the loo.

Now that I have spilled all this, do I sound more Martha Stewart or ? Blush

oopslateagain · 28/01/2011 11:01

I bung them all in an envelope, when I have a load DD ties them onto a hair band to make something "funky" (her word!Grin)

I have to say... they actually do look nice.

Sometimes she decorates the cat's collar with them, too. Cat is not impressed.

LifeInTheSlowLane · 28/01/2011 11:01

Quenelle - I keep them too and always think they might come in useful for something but I've yet to find a use for them!

dotty2 · 28/01/2011 11:05

I used mine to tie up bags of biscuits for the cake stall!

FindingStuffToChuckOut · 28/01/2011 11:06

I think it's more for instore use than at home. I cut them out first wear.

gordyslovesheep · 28/01/2011 11:07

oh yes Hoppity I got my arm stuck in one today as well! I cut them off

gleechie · 28/01/2011 11:09

Whats the point of them on strappy camisole tops?! Why!!

Quenelle · 28/01/2011 11:10

LifeInTheSlowLane We could combine our collections and weave them into something useful like, erm...

frgr · 28/01/2011 11:13

Me too!

I've been doing this for years and I realised last month that I never have found a use for them, they all got binned.

Then last week DH went and bought a pair of gauzy curtains to increase the privacy in the bathroom (i hate the frosted glass on its own), and I realised what did i need... small bits of ribbon to tie them in place.

I'm now going to have to go out and buy a few inches of ribbon!

:)

plupervert · 28/01/2011 11:17

frgr, I know where you can get some little pieces of ribbon! Just step this way into M&S, TopShop...

LifeInTheSlowLane · 29/01/2011 18:24

I have just found a use for some of them! DS1 is always losing his sports bag at school cos they all look the same and he missed football yesterday because he couldn't find his bag. I had some black and grey ribbons in my sewing box and tied them on his bag handle so it'll be easier to recognise Smile
