to think MNHQ are inconsistent with deleting posts

and to be feeling really aggrieved that after reporting the same very offensive post twice I have had no responce from HQ

yet I had made a fairly inofensive post and it was deleted imediatly once it was reported. (different threads and posters BTW)

I don't find it offensive at all. You mean you find it offensive?

WillfSelll · 26/01/2011 23:22

That was to th.

But also not offensive if you thought the nazis were bad but couldn't give a monkeys chuff about some old patriarch in a dress who people hero worship.

silverfrog · 26/01/2011 23:25

while the technical argument re: personal insult vs statement of fact (accurate or otherwise) is all well and good, the fact remains that yes, MNHQ are totally inconsistant wiht regard to deletions.

there have been several threads deleted recently which contained no personal insults/attacks, but were full of statements of fact.

all deleted, because MNHQ deemed it necessary to keep the peace (not talking raging racist threads here)

the SN section has recently seen the loss of a lot of posters over MNHQ actions and policies on this.

they always have ben inconsistent htough - racist stuff gets pulled if reported. disablist stuff stays, as it "educates and informs" Hmm

nice.

Personal attacks get deleted

appologies to mumsnethq post has been deleted now

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 26/01/2011 23:27

Bloody hell Tom - you don't really expect MNHQ to delete every post someone finds offensive?

There would be next to nothing left if they did that!

silverfrog · 26/01/2011 23:30

but that is exactly what they have been doing over in SN, ChippingIn.

so consitency would be nice, dont you think? (either way, tbh. but a clear policy would be good)

BuzzLightBeer · 26/01/2011 23:31

Bit much starting an entire new thread to complain about my post being deleted. Which it really shouldn't have been seeing as it didn't breach any of the talk guidelines. But HQ can delete what they like.

I still don't see how a one lone joke that didn't attack anyone and didn't contain anything that wasn't objectively true was so offensive, but I suppose some people aren't paticularly robust in themselves and see personal attacks where there aren't any.

tomhardyismydh · 26/01/2011 23:33

It was not a thread particularly about you but just what I seen as inconsistencies.

but I have been proven to be wrong as post was deleted

I don't mind that at all. I can totally be a dick. But I wouldn't report your post, I'm not a wilting flower that needs the nasty posts to be removed to protect me.

And I don't drag across threads, so Wink back at ya. Smile

Me either TSC - I can take it, I wear my big girl pants when I post on here! Someone said something to me on a thread once and someone else reported it and it was deleted - really annoying as then I had to track someone down to tell me what was said!! Grin

I would rather the posting guidelines weren't so restrictive to be honest - I'd rather be able to call to a complete and utter twat to your face Grin Wink

MsKLo · 27/01/2011 07:53

Being told to shut up is fine, but calling someone a cunt and the like is pathetic. It doesn't bother me if someone calls me names but I still think the people on here who insist on doing it show themselves up as idiots and there are better ways to get your point across

And yes, I have been guilty of doing it but having looked at it, it is a stupid way to communicate and there are better ways to discuss things

Longtalljosie · 27/01/2011 08:00

I once lost my temper with someone and regretted it - I was very rude - and asked MNHQ to delete it at my request. I got an email back saying they didn't do that which just isn't the case - very odd.

I'm often on the 'wrong' side of arguments, but hardly ever see my posts deleted.

No personal insults is the key.

Most posters are up for a good debate I think, but there are some who will shamelessly stoop to getting posts deleted if they are on the back foot. So I try not to give them anything to use.

I also think there are also a lot of lurkers who 'contribute' to the more outraged debates by voting with the report button. Maybe they should take the button away from non-contributors?

Agree with the poster that said SN threads are being over policed by MNHQ. An orchestrated campagn of reporting going on by some oversensitive MNers? Possibly.

madonnawhore · 27/01/2011 09:23

Has anyone started a thread yet about how the pope is also an apologist for institutionalised paedophilia?

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 27/01/2011 09:23

silverfrog what sort of things are being deleted on the SN boards? I'm a bit confused?

tomhardyismydh · 27/01/2011 09:31

I think buzzs is the only post I have ever reported TBH. The reason i did was as I felt it ws very insulting and of no use to the OP, However I did then get into the debate with buzz and it turned out to be a very grown up debate. But I think it is not usefully to bang on about the catholic church paedophilia cases and without due evidance call the pope a nazi. I would have reported the post if it was a slant on muslims or any other religion or leader etc aswell.

I was honestly interested in starting this thread to find out what will constitude deltion in other mnsers eyes.

its not an attack on buzz.

I dont mind wearing or name calling directed towards me ad wouldnt even dream of deleting a post on those grounds, but I do think it is silly to just be insulting or contoversiakl for t the sake of it when someone has a genuine need for help advice etc.
