DH is 40 this year shares birthday with close friend, so plan to have a joint celebration. This friend usually has good taste and is not hard up. He thinks it's ok for the food to come from Iceland and can't understand my horror.....so AIBU?!

herladyship · 26/01/2011 19:13

i thought we were talking holidays.. iceland would be a great idea for a 40th Grin

Liluri · 26/01/2011 19:14

Agree with cornsilk.
Your DH should be thinking more about his carbon footprint now that he's getting on a bit.

agedknees · 26/01/2011 19:14

I too thought your dh and his cf where jetting off to Iceland.

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 19:14

Does he mean reindeer vol au vents being imported especially for the occasion or is he talking frozen sausage rolls?

Tidey · 26/01/2011 19:15

I can't tell if you're serious. Avoid the prawn ring.

upahill · 26/01/2011 19:15

I've been meaning to go to Iceland (the country) for years but it is so expensive BUT I can afford to go to the Iceland (the shop)

southeastastra · 26/01/2011 19:15

don't be a wanker

AuntieMaggie · 26/01/2011 19:16

He's probably thinking people will be more bothered about the beer...

Changeisagoodthing · 26/01/2011 19:17

Ohhhh smoked reindeer, Salted lamb, fish heads , whale.

I love food from Iceland

Changeisagoodthing · 26/01/2011 19:18

I think we had bear in Iceland- may have been Russia though.

DirtyMartini · 26/01/2011 19:19

Are you going to get the beef-stuffed Yorkshires from the terrifying Xmas ad? The ones that look like little cross sections of a rectum packed with faecal matter?

Tidey · 26/01/2011 19:19

Some of their party food is quite nice. The mini pavlovas and eclairs especially. If it's stuff like that, where once it's out of the box it looks and tastes like you could have bought it anywhere, you're being silly. If they want to serve chicken tikka lasagne, then I'd agree with you.

Vajazzle · 26/01/2011 19:24

The prawn ring and Christmas ad sprung to mind when he mentioned it!

I was about to say what an amazing country Iceland is and how it would be great for a 40th! Confused

montysorry · 26/01/2011 19:30

Though it was a PITA to try and sleep when it's feckin daylight at 1am!

Ormirian · 26/01/2011 19:34

Do you know I think it might be quite fun. You could lay the buffet out on one of the conveyor belts, play a 'dodge the granny with the tartan shopping trolley' game, give a prize to the first guest to make a shop assistant smile. Loads of cheap booze

I think he's on to something....

scurryfunge · 26/01/2011 19:39

Yes, Orm, maybe play "Guess the additive" and another family favourite "Pin the Tail On the Donovan"

workhardplayhard · 26/01/2011 21:01

I think iceland is inappropriate for any day I'm afraid - eeeugghh nasty

mollymawk · 26/01/2011 21:02

My friend went to Iceland for her 40th. There weren't any prawn rings though.

gordyslovesheep · 26/01/2011 21:04

go here - much better value

DurhamDurham · 26/01/2011 21:06

You could pretend it was from M&S

rockinhippy · 26/01/2011 21:07

I thought you meant the country....not the shop[confused)

thread caught my eye as I'm considering it for my next big birthday Confused

stumped now

herladyship · 26/01/2011 21:33

can someone please reassure me that chicken tikka lasagne DOES NOT in fact exist Shock
