Ta! Grrrrrrr, why does he have to start with Ta, everyday?

Why does he have all the ridiculous fillers with the crap about BBC content/non content, web cams etc in the stupid voices?

Why is his show popular, I really must be missing something in my psyche as it makes me switch off every time he comes on.

Cannot bear Steve Wright. No, I don't listen to him.

Am Confused by the stuff about female presenters. Not sure what relevance that has.

Nikalah · 26/01/2011 00:25

YADNBU - I can't abide the man, the stupid voices, crap charachters (old woman?!!) and daft sidekicks. Dreadful.

crazypanda · 26/01/2011 00:40

use to love mr angry is he still on?.

claig · 26/01/2011 00:44

radiohelen, interesting stuff. I didn't know that.

claig · 26/01/2011 00:54

'use to love mr angry is he still on?'

Yes, I think his show is either before or after Steve Wrong's.

TheSkiingGardener · 26/01/2011 05:29

Can't stand Steve "luvtheshow" Wright. That show is well past it's sell by date. It hasn't changed in decades. Mornings are fantastic on R2, JV's show is irritating but they have to have a consumer affairs type show to fulfill their remit, and then Wright comes on and the radio goes off.

radiohelen · 26/01/2011 08:31

For the record I'm not a huge Steve Wright fan. I actually think his stuff is lazy and so last century. I like bits of it. Ask Elvis was funny. Other bits not so much. I'd never thought of getting a blow up man.... if I did it would be David Beckham. SW is a bit on the older side for me Grin

I agree that Radcliffe and Maconie are great. It's a bit boys own muso for a lot of people though.

As to whether people would listen to Radio two whoever was on. I'm not so sure. Radio presenting is a skill and some people can do it, others can't. Why do you think Chris Evans came back? He's a great radio presenter. You can spend all the money you like on advertising, spread it all across the BBC but if people tune in and it's rubbish they will go elsewhere - as proved here!

Last night I was just trying to explain how it works. I was probably a bit strident cos it hit a bit of a nerve.... you might have noticed that Wink

tjacksonpfc · 26/01/2011 08:35

radiohelen Hhere did you get that all radio 2 listeners are in there 40s or 50s from?

I am 30 and have been listening for a few years as have quite a few people i know.

Not all young people like chav fm also known as radio 1. Bit of a strange comment i think Confused

upahill · 26/01/2011 12:03

I think with all radio stations there are DJ's that you like and ones that you can't stand (with the exception of Planet Rock where there isn't one that I don't like!)

I can't stand the Chris Moyles show but I like Zane Lowe, Nihal, Anie Mac and Mike Davies.

I'm not keen on Steve Wright but I adore Radcliffe and Maconie.

Horses for Course I guess!

I do think that the Steve Wright show is the equivelant to the sit coms on GOLD. There will be some people that will still love them.

MardyBra · 26/01/2011 14:25

"actually it's about 17 minutes of ads in an hour (on commercial radio) so not 50 per cent at all."

Sorry I wasn't more specific Hmm - should have sated 28.3%. But once you'd added in the news, weather, traffic and chat, it can certainly feel that you're only getting music for half the time.

Anyway I could put up with most of SW's shite if he'd just stop singing along to the blardy songs. He hasn't even got a decent singing voice.

MardyBra · 26/01/2011 14:25

sorry "stated"

radiohelen · 26/01/2011 22:04

tjacksonpfc Radio Two's target audience is 35-65. The majority of their listeners fall into that age range. There will always be people on the edges of that and as Radio 2 measure their listeners in millions that's always going to be quite a few young 'uns and old 'uns. They are actually required to target that age range as part of their promise of performance. What's been happening over the last 10 years is that Radio 2 has been aiming younger, incroaching on the top end of Radio One and commercial radio's listenership.

Mardybra you are right in that it feels like you get a lot less music. Each time you have to stopdown for ads/news/travel the flow comes to a clunking halt and it's then most people switch over. That's why commercial jocks work so hard in the links before the ads to give you a reason to hang on. Most breakfast shows play between 6 and 8 songs in an hour so after adding in the ads, news and travel and production you're lucky if you have 5 minutes to fill. It better be a good 5 minutes or you are out on your arse. You do get more music during the day though.

I was never allowed to sing over the end of the songs. You get a stern talking to if you do. SW also talks all over the end of songs which drives me crazy. Very bad habit of his.... naughty man.

MardyBra · 26/01/2011 23:25

Agree that Chris Evans is excellent. I think I'm about the same age as him. I used to enjoy his show back in the 90s with his sycophantic, but quite funny, gang. Now he seems to have grown up a bit, but is still fresh, unlike SW.

I read somewhere that he'd increased the listening figures for the breakfast show but was marginally cheaper than Tel - so good on him.

Radiohelen - pleased to hear you never sang over the songs.

upahill · 27/01/2011 11:40

I must admit Ken Bruce really amuses me.
Over on radio 1 Scott Mills is funny as well.

I do like Chris Evans although Planet Rock is usually on when he is on.

kittywise · 27/01/2011 17:33

I think Evans is a tosser.

ShowOfHands · 27/01/2011 17:40

I am always surprised by how much I like Graham Norton on the radio.

I don't know anybody who likes Steve Wright, regardless of age or whether or not they listened to his dirge years ago. It is time he went.
