AIBU to want to adorn my 1yr old DD in utterly useless hair clips?

Just been in M&S and have notice their assortment of hairbands, clips etc for little girls.

In the past I thought it was silly and pretty pointless. But now im tempted. I tried a little butterfly hairband on her and her face lit up (was most likely a reaction from mine, but hey ho!)

She does have a small tuft of hair at the front so I could possibly justify my reasons?

She'll rip them off after 3 1/2 minutes and they'll end up being eaten by the dog wont they?

Probably, but who cares? If you like them then buy them, as long as they're not something she could potentially choke on if she pulls them out.

My DD is 14 months and looks like an Old English Sheepdog unless I clip her hair back! She pulled out the first one or two but now sits still while I put them in!

Ahh when they've got alot of hair I can see the reason but this is purely because I think they look cute.

I think nothing looks worse than a small child with a stump of hair tied tightly in a band on top of their head. It pulls and damages fragile hair, is probably painful, and looks bloody ridiculous.

They are cute but give her another year (or two) when the choking hazard becomes slightly less.

I put hair clips in dd3's hair at her request and they're out within 2 minutes and in her mouth (she's 19 mnts)

No no, you misunderstand not a hair bobble type thing, the sort of hairband that push hair out of you eyes, like an alice band.

YANBU - Get her used to them now and she'll be more likely to keep them in when her hair does need pulling back from her face?

I quite like to clip to the side my daughter's "fringe" which isn't a fringe but her growing hair, which is at that awkward stage where its all mullety at the back and just everywhere at the front.

I dont want her to have a fringe as part of a hairstyle so I dont want to cut it.

She looks so much prettier with it swept to the side, but just pulls hair clips out to chew on them, and my son then wants to wear one to preschool which is social suicide!

Dammit. And she wont sit still for her fake tan either. kidding

I used to put a hairband on my DD - she was practically bald...but she looked like a boy if I didn't, lol

They just go through that awkward stage at this age, girls. Still at least she didn't go through what I call the friar tuck stage , where they have the bald spot at the back and look like a "Jewish Accountant with a combover"

When DD was younger she hardly had any hair and if going to a dressy event like a Christening or at Christmas, I would put a hair band on her. But I'd save them for special occasions.

Hair clips have never stayed on DD (now 2.5) for more than a minute, so I rarely bother. Her nursery has a big box of discarded hair clips because all the girls take them off as soon as parents leave.

They can look cute, but don't overdo it.

Personally, I wonder whether the child enjoys having their hair put in these clips/bobbles etc

I don't mind a couple of bunches, or a clip to keep hair out of their eyes.

OTOH, I don't like my DD having her hair french plaited or put in 16 bobbles FFS!!!! like XPs girlfriend insists on doing to DD .

Padded hairband so that if she pulls it she won´t rip her hair?

In fact if the child doesn't enjoy the clip/bobble they DO just pull it out, I feel.

Mine I do really because I hate the look of it all tangled up in her eyelashes though as I said she does look prettier with it swept across, mainly because you can then see her face I suppose.

I hate having my hair in my face, I scrape it back in a really uncool ponytail and sometimes terry towelling headband if I'm doing something...looks dreadful no doubt.

In Kaz Cooke's Rough guide to pregnancy and birth she makes a comment about babies in hairbands resembling 'demented Easter Eggs' .

This is the image I have in my mind every time I think of hairbands on bald/nearly bald little girls.

As someone who was nearly bald until the age of 2 and whose own DD2 has less hair at 19 months than most of my friends' newborns (aged 1 week, 7 weeks and 8 weeks), I've always been a fan of not bothering about using hairstyles as a way of defining gender. Her big sister name does that for her.

DD1 had more hair but had a fringe until she was three - the age at which she would tolerate/demand hairclips.

So yes, YABU to want your DD to look like a demented Easter Egg for no good reason!

Next thing you be wanting to put her hair in bunches so she can look like she has had a face lift.

That has so gotta be cruelty to children when mothers put their babies hair in pony tails, tiny little tuffts at the top of their head, their eyebrows raised like they been tortured.

My DD is 11 months. She has had 5 haircuts and is soon due another. It is past the bottom of her shoulders and her fringe is in her eyes AGAIN .

She wears all manner of hair bobbles, slides, ribbons, clips and hairbands and has done since about 3 months. She's never thought to chew one yet? She came home from nursery last week with 2 braid plaits. I love her big mad birds' nest hair - shinier and more bouncy than mine will ever be

At my dd's nursery in the baby room you can tell that the carers have been bored by the elaborate coiffures of the babies. Mine came home one day with a whole head of cornrows!
