I took DS (3 months old) to lunch with a friend and her friend who had a baby a month older than DS. While we were out I gave DS a feed but he fell asleep half way through, I commented that I hated it when he didn't finish a feed because it meant he would want more during the night. My friends friend replied to this saying she was glad when her LO didn't finish hers because it meant she wouldn't have the extra calories! Shock I laughed but the scary thing is she wasn't joking. I feel sorry for this kid if her mum is calorie counting when shes only 4 months old. shakes head

Sn0wflake · 23/01/2011 18:06

Some people shouldn't be parents.

joydivisionovengloves · 23/01/2011 18:11

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 18:30

ha!..some people are ever so slightly insane...cut her some slack she's probably caught up in competitive weight-loss after pregnancy malarky..tell her to stop reading cheap celeb mags!

CrapBag · 23/01/2011 18:38

WTF!!!!

Idiot woman. Her poor child.

pigletmania · 23/01/2011 18:39

I am Shock the mentality of some people, that poor little girl will end up with eating disorders in no time Sad

HettyAmaretti · 23/01/2011 18:39

Mumcentreplus - wanting to lose baby weight at an insane speed has nothing to do with being "...glad when her LO didn't finish hers because it meant she wouldn't have the extra calories!". Is it?

FaffTastic · 23/01/2011 18:41

Does your friend have weight or body issues and calorie count for herself?

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 18:48

oops..bluddy hell I really must read more carefully!!...she's weight watching her baby???

That is so stupid it is unreal. Scary. And children who are underfed as babies/toddlers tend to store fat as they grow up. Not that anyone should be worrying about the size of a child anyway

mamatomany · 23/01/2011 18:52

I do wonder if babies always want more though, they like sucking so would probably drink 20oz's given the chance, which they do not need.

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 18:53

No babies usually know their fill..

SharkSkinThing · 23/01/2011 18:54

Good lord. That's appalling. Does she not know that food = brain and growth development, not just weight gain?

And I thought I'd seen it all..

BoffinMum · 23/01/2011 18:55

I would have told her to see her GP about this tbh.

pozzled · 23/01/2011 18:56

My DD always stopped when she wanted to- once she reached her limit there was no way of getting her to take any more.

The idea of counting calories for babies is very frightening.

goingroundthebend4 · 23/01/2011 18:56

its not new i was told that ds2 will be fat if you let him guzzle like that yes he was chubby babby but hey at 10lb born was never going to be small and yes was a solid toddler but by time he was 3 he wa slike a rake

NinkyNonker · 23/01/2011 18:56

Are you sure she wasn't joking? Is her baby off the high centiles or something?

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 18:56

Have you asked her why she's worried about her baby gaining weight?

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 18:57

who told you that going?

megapixels · 23/01/2011 18:59

Maybe the baby eats a lot and is overweight or something? Can't imagine why anyone would be counting calories for a baby otherwise!

sarahitaly · 23/01/2011 19:01

She wasn't Italian by any chance was she ?

I only ask because when my now 10 year old (EBF) son was just 2 months old he was chubby, but not off the charts, and for the next six months solid I had peds shouting at me to replace feeds with fennel\chamomile tea to stop him "gaining too much weight".

Other mums\entire female side of (big mouthed) husband's family were horrified when I couldn't comply.

The whole pregnancy\baby time was just one long horror of weight obsession, mine and his.

thatsnotmymonster · 23/01/2011 19:05

Are you absolutely sure she wasn't joking?...maybe just had a weird sense of humour or really dead pan? Maybe when you didn't say anything she thought you were strange for thinking she was serious? Am only asking btw!

None of my 3 lo's would ever have drank anywhere near 20oz of milk Mamatomy!! I used to wish they would drink more but they rarely finished an 8oz bottle or had a long bf.

If she was calorie counting her dd then she is sick and needs counselling.
