I'm fed up with being told that I don't understand the real world because I earn so much, that I shouldn't drive my daughter 1/2 mile to school in my Range Rover, that private schools are elitist and places I use to keep my children away from 'the poor', that I should consider myself 'lucky' that I live in luxury and that I shouldn't tell my children to be selective about what sort of people their friends are.

Well, I'm proud of my family's hard work and I think I can live my life as I please. And yes, people ARE responsible for their own destinies and we SHOULD judge more.

Oh I was in need of a fucking good chuckle tonight - thankyou OP for providing that Grin

I can't be arsed working out the anagram. Sorry.

AnnieLobeseder · 22/01/2011 23:45

I tried an online anagram solver. It gave up at 400 solutions, all of which started with 'a'.

So no thanks.

Bored now.

You are right to be unhappy at people telling you you don't understand the real world. You may not understand some people's lives; but I think that is the same for everyone.

Yes of course people have some control over their destiny and should take responsibility for the decisions they make. But of course nobody has total control over their destiny. Shit happens, that isn't our fault.

People die young, like a friend of mine at 42 who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and given a year to live. She has always lived healthily so this is just bad luck. Or my friend from school who from 16 years of age became a carer for her mother who became disabled after having tumours in the brain. Her father had abandoned them all years earlier. Or my OH's friend from university diagnosed with szichophrenia and unable to work.

Also some people are more able to cope mentally with negative events. Some struggle for years after being raped, attacked or abused whilst others seem to be able to carry on with life easier, in spite of what has happened to them.

Of course there are some people who seem to blame everyone else but themselves for anything negative that happens in their lives. But I'm afraid that although we can control some things about our destiny, we can't control everything.

Did lesley kill the thread?

Well, I'm resurrenting it to complain, and mark the OP down as a FAIL for this trolling thread. Because...

  1. she didn't come back to keep defending her ridiculous position

  2. left with some annoying clue about an anagram and never returned to explain.

I am not amused.

LadyOfTheManor · 23/01/2011 20:45

YANBU I'm so sick of hearing how people drone on about how;

"people shouldn't earn so much"

" 'Nowt wrong wiv state schools' "

"You don't need X amount of cars"

"Who needs 3 holidays a year?"

"You're wealthy so OBVIOUSLY you're not happy about SOMETHING in your sub conscious".

Piss off moaning about what you haven't got and allow those who "work damned hard" to enjoy the benefits.

LadyOfTheManor · 23/01/2011 20:46

Oh and I hold that position, ridiculed or otherwise.

scottishmummy · 23/01/2011 20:48
