Where did it go?!

OP posts:
mutznutz · 21/01/2011 11:32

Which one?

Rhinestone · 21/01/2011 11:32

One about not bothering MPs / the media with our problems.

It's stupid apparently.

Oh that one...I don't know but good riddance to it Biscuit

Rhinestone · 21/01/2011 11:36

It as a thread about the 'Operation Riven' and OP was being rather unkind and petty. Lots of us told her so - then it disappeared!

TheVisitor · 21/01/2011 11:38

I reported it. It left a nasty taste in my mouth.

The proper authorities, BeerTricks. The ones who you didn't bother to ring up, write to, have meetings with, harry, hound, cry about and finally give up on. The ones who can really do stuff if you contact them direct. Ones like... oh, let's say at a wild venture, Bristol social services. If only you go through the right channels, of course you will get what you need, because that's what they're for, right?

I'm not sure whether the conversation got so far as what you're supposed to do when the proper authorities don't quite cut the mustard, as it disappeared while I was poking my nose in contributing to another thread.

Rhinestone · 21/01/2011 11:52

I suspect the OP was the head of South Gloucestershire Child Services, ha ha ha!

OP posts:
conniedescending · 21/01/2011 11:58

yes I asked for it to be deleted - sorry to ruin your braying mudslinging fun

and it was actually that MPs/ media should be used as last resort not a first - not saying that they shouldnt be bothered at all.

and that there are agencies that will help you deal with bureaucracy without having to resort to emailing DC. But you dont want to hear that do you - not as much fun to telephone a local charity and ask them to help is it?

and it was not a dig at riven - more the loons who started some weird viral camapaign. If it were me I'd be hugely distressed by it all.

TheVisitor · 21/01/2011 12:01

Connie, I find you a rather unpleasant person. Not just from that post, but from others I have read of yours. Remember the old adage - if you can't say anything nice, then say nothing at all.

I will also say that Mumsnet have brought the lack of respite care for many, many families into the media, not just Riven, and that is a GOOD thing. This can promote change.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/01/2011 12:01

Yes dear. But in the case you appear to be alluding to, all the official channels had been tried and found sadly wanting. The MP/PM/media approach was the last resort.

Dammit, I'm feeding the troll. Will stop now, promise.

Rhinestone · 21/01/2011 12:03

Aaaaarrrrgghhhh! Sincere apologies for allowing the OP to start up again.

I will keep my queries about missing threads to myself in future.

OP posts:
conniedescending · 21/01/2011 12:08

yes but anyone who can change anything already knows about the lack of respite care - the media just want to make money

and its not just respite care that is the problem either.

2shoes · 21/01/2011 12:09

one I was on has just gone
mn is seriously going weird.

TheVisitor · 21/01/2011 12:11

Of course the media want to make money, but it's good having something in the public eye. It may change so money that is allocated for respite becomes ringfenced. That can only be a good thing. I will still refer you to the last sentence, first paragraph of my previous post.

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 12:17

mnet has made a lot of money out of Riven's plight and has Justine or anyone from mnhq been around to give support as she is besieged in her home? I think mnhq acted pretty poorly yesterday IMHO it boosted their google ratings and ad revenue so win win mnhq and I resent their constant censoring...

2shoes · 21/01/2011 12:17

they imo are acting badly, they seem to now be banning discussion as threads are being deleted.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/01/2011 12:18

Ha, that sounds like a hilarious thread. And there was me thinking that MPs jobs are actually to represent us and try to get us, their constituents, a better deal.

Ludicrous.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 21/01/2011 12:21

Politicians have been known to say things along the lines of "I agree with you that we should be doing X, now go out there and make me do it". That's what's happening here, hopefully.

wukter · 21/01/2011 12:34

What the hell are MPs for then?

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 12:34

Touche 2 shoes I quite agree. Justine put out an announcement ref the huge thread started by Riven and asked for no more posts as it had all got out of hand. Call me cynical but I note that the thread was still added to and has been left up in view of the world and the Press. I expect it is all good for mnet though I still think mnet apply double standards, (I expect they will censor me for saying this though).
