Where did it go?!

OP posts:
boohoohoo · 21/01/2011 12:36

THis one will be deleted next, seems if anyone has an issue with went on the other day the thread is automatically deleted.

wukter · 21/01/2011 12:40

I missed what went on the other day, was only online for 5 mins all week, but have got the general gist. Am outside the UK so did not catch all the media attention. It did seem to snowball. I hope the outcome is good for the family. All the families, rather.

2shoes · 21/01/2011 12:41

klauskinskiinthekinotech never saw that post..
is in now against the rules to discuss a news story

PaisleyLeaf · 21/01/2011 12:42

I've been wondering why it all seems quiet re. respite etc on here today.
I wondered if MN was the only forum not talking about it. Which seemed funny, as it was a very important issue here for the last couple of days - and now nothing.
Is it not to be mentioned now then?

wukter · 21/01/2011 12:44

I think the poster in question has been feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the attention and hopes that things calm down a bit. That's my understanding anyway.

Pancakeflipper · 21/01/2011 12:44

I thought I saw an update by Mumsnet Towers saying a thread about the council statement was to be removed shortly - they said Riven had requested this.

2shoes · 21/01/2011 12:47

so now a poster can just ask and it is done(no offence to poster) surely that is getting silly, yet anti sn troll posts are left standing.
so now we can't discuss a big news story and respite, which is bloody important, as someone will mention the R name and whoosh it will be gone

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 12:50

Mnethq were acting like the Soviet Ministry of Information yesterday and were deleting threads which THEY did not agree with. Justine went on to explain the the site was being hacked when interviewed by Sky News. I love it if you say anything controversial or name change you are either a troll, a journo in disguise, or a teenage boy hell bent on mischief. It is never believed that you are a regular and have name changed to avoid a roasting when you go on other threads. No criticism of Mnet or of Mnet royalty is the order of the day here...

2shoes · 21/01/2011 12:51

odd
so the whole respite being in the news is now gone from mn
what a waste

I have started hiding behind a proxy server on occasion as I was banned. And my crime...ii put a pic of Peter Mandelson on my profile page and said I loved macrame as my hobby, and enjoyed dining with Deborah Duchess of Devonshire in her Orangerie. Hardly giving away state secrets was it? It was all very tongue in cheek, nothing libellous or inflammatory and I did Pete proud. It helped raise his profile a couple of notches when his popularity was flagging

Anniegetyourgun · 21/01/2011 13:13

My God you MN-cynics are talking a crock of shit.

The thread this one asked about about was deleted at the request of the person who started it. I don't agree with the views of that person but she/he was perfectly honest about the reason it had gone. All this about a conspiracy on the part of MN to make large amounts through advertising, oh for goodness' sake. If MN can make some money as a side-effect of supporting a worthy cause, then more power to their collective elbow I say. Now that the person the campaign was about has asked for it to be toned down, and it has been, that's deeply suspicious for some reason?

And if you don't like the tone, there are other sites. If you want to hang about here and complain, feel free, but you have to accept that some people - say, for example, me - won't like it so may give you a hard time for it. If you felt it was getting too personal, well, do what anyone else does: report it. Only that would be censorship, wouldn't it, and you wouldn't want that.

Er, didn't I say I wasn't going to feed the you-know-what? Sorry.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/01/2011 13:15

Apologies for too many "abouts" Blush

PaisleyLeaf · 21/01/2011 13:16

I didn't know the campaign for respite had been asked to be toned down.
I just thought it weird it had totally gone.

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 13:59

Annie there was a thread yesterday lunchtime and it was deleted I don't recall the op asking for it to be closed. And when she came back afterwards and asked where the original thread had gone (like this one) that too was deleted ok. So maybe that is why I am a cynic and Justine seems to say one thing and then do another and you wonder why some here areHmm and I am not a troll so you don't need to worry about feeding me..

Anniegetyourgun · 21/01/2011 14:12

"I don't recall the op asking for it to be closed"

Why should you? It's usually done by a private reporting of the post via the "report" link attached to every message. No-one else need know unless the reporter chooses to mention that's what they've done.

StealthPolarStuckSpaceBar · 21/01/2011 14:17

???

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 21/01/2011 14:30

Annie I am just saying I am a cynic at the moment as mnet ARE deleting loads of threads and why delete yesterdays second thread posted by the same op all she had asked was where had the first one gone? A bit like this thread really, why is it so strange to question mnhq's motives sometime?
I would say it was damn healthy really to ask questions and just because you ask for a thread to be deleted it is not always the case. MNHQ make the final decision as to whether a thread stays or goes.

HelenMumsnet · 21/01/2011 15:19

Hello. We deleted the thread about the council statement at Riven's request because it contained a lot of personal information. We posted on that thread to say this before deleting.

We locked Riven's original thread yesterday, also at her request.

We'd welcome continued discussion on the wider issue of respite care. There is very active thread on that - and the DLA changes in general - here
