Ed Balls

I know this should be in politics but what the hell, as I have been on my high horse about hypocrisy today. I thought Ballsup looked like the"cat who had got the cream" today ref Alan Johnson's abrupt departure and I thought he was totally not sorry to lose AJ from the cabinet his just read Guido Fawkes blog and it seem AJ has been having a possible fling with an unamed civil servant and Balls has leaked this as he has been after AJ's job. I can't see him doing what he is told by Ed M. Be prepared for the return of Gordon Brown style briefings and bunker mentality. If you lot think Labour are up to the job to getting us out of our mess be warned

You're not wrong about Balls. Not a pleasant man. Then again, I thought Milliband said he was sad to lose 'Al Jolson' Confused at first. He really needs to work on his diction.

Biscuitscoco · 20/01/2011 22:16

I really like Ed Balls. He is more than a match for the opposition.

CaptainNancy · 20/01/2011 22:18

Some people look much worse in photographs than real life, others look much worse in rl than photographs. Ed Balls falls into the latter category (I can remember pre-election a fair few mners saying he was lovely )

I am trying to work out the point of your OP as an AIBU?...

hr100 · 20/01/2011 22:18

Everytime Balls is on the TV I want to throw things at it.

Has there ever been a smugger man?

Hassled · 20/01/2011 22:23

I like Balls a lot. In RL he's good - affable, likeable. I think he has the courage of his convictions. A shame about Johnson (who I also like) - but then he should never have been given the job. He was completely unsuitable for it - was madness. But Balls knows his stuff; he'll be a better opposition.

Changeisagoodthing · 20/01/2011 22:27

I know many people who know EB well in RL and have worked with him over years. They rate him very highly and respect him. They trust him and say he has integrity.

They do however say that David milliband is the most outstanding.

Chil1234 · 20/01/2011 22:27

Guido Fawkes

huddspur · 20/01/2011 22:28

Balls is nasty and has a bag full of dirty tricks. He sounds as though he's leaked it because he wanted Johnsons job.

Hassled · 20/01/2011 22:33

I wonder what could possibly have motivated Guido Fawks to produce this on a seriously Bad News Week for Dave?

ilovesooty · 20/01/2011 22:37

"Some people look much worse in photographs than real life, others look much worse in rl than photographs. Ed Balls falls into the latter category"

I agree. He's my MP and I met him in person just before the election. He's much nicer in real life than he comes over on TV - and I told him so.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 20/01/2011 22:39

I would

He's well tasty

ilovesooty · 20/01/2011 22:39

Sorry: that came out all wrong. He looks like a smuggo on TV, but in RL he really is much nicer: very approachable and takes the time to listen to what you have to say. To be fair I don't think the struggle he's had with his speech impediment helps him in the media.

ilovesooty · 20/01/2011 22:40

I would

He's well tasty

LOL!!

Changeisagoodthing · 20/01/2011 22:41

Hassled

I agree. Guido fawkes is vile. Once posted an awful comment about a friend of mine that was so untrue

CaptainNancy · 20/01/2011 22:42

Hassled- I didn't find him particularly likeable or affable. I met him for work, and tbh Brennan was much nicer.
(that doesn't mean he'd be better at his job btw)

CaptainNancy · 20/01/2011 22:44

y, y guido fawkes is a nasty piece of work.

edam · 20/01/2011 22:50

I think the last thing the country needs is for the economy to be left to economics wonks. That's what got us into this mess in the first place. A specialist elite who all thought they were cleverer than clever and ignored the little boy pointing out the Emperor had no clothes. They all shared the same assumptions, beliefs and prejudices.

Alan Johnson could have offered us a broader perspective and forced the Treasury to connect with the world outside - perhaps starting with some concern for the real economy rather than the City. It's a crying shame he has gone.

byrel · 20/01/2011 22:52

Balls is a fool, it was him and Brown that believed that the economic cycle had been abolished.

Changeisagoodthing · 20/01/2011 23:00

So let's have George osbourne who has never had a job (sorry I don't count a week at selfridges folding towels and a summer job as an nhs data clerk) running the economy.

And isn't he doing well so far!

Rollmops · 20/01/2011 23:01

Balls The Vile is akin to Taliban.... keep 'em dumb or Else.
I hope he fries.

[BOAK}

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 20/01/2011 23:01

So Ed looked genuinely sorry to see AJ go, he needs to brush up on his method acting, oh and I really believe he has my interests at heart and will be fighting tooth and nail for me and my family. Ed Balls is only out for ED Balls period. And he is also one of the architects behind this huge pile of shite the country is now in. Please please never let him control our money ever again, at least Gordo was a conviction politician Balls is like a serpent. Snd I hould have AIBU to seriously mistrust Ed Balls sorry.

nogreythatmatters · 20/01/2011 23:01

Ed Balls is a smug pudgy faced chancer, who has not done a real days work in his life. Spent all his life as a policy wonk or as a political researcher, how can he possibly relate to real issues?

Jacaqueen · 20/01/2011 23:09

As opposed to Gideon who is a real man of the people.

klauskinskiinthekinotech · 20/01/2011 23:12

@change Burnham never had a rl job ditto Balls ditto Gordo if it comes to it ditto half the Labour cabinet. Balls was the policy wonk par extraordinaire. You must live in cloud cuckoo with big pink glasses land or you are one of the many Party Activists who live on here....
