Possibly worst film I've ever seen? Stuck on sofa as not well and thought I'd treat myself to bit of light relief but it is painfully bad. Now recalling the first film was crap too How can Such a successful series spawn such shite movies?

I dunno, but I thought the five minute interlude on the camels was where I had to draw the line and burn the dvd.

willow · 20/01/2011 13:29

Not there yet. You mean it gets worse?

eandz Grin

I saw it in the cinema and was ready to walk out after about 10 minutes, but had battled hard with OH to drag him out to see it so had to pretend I found it marvellous Hmm

MoonGirl1981 · 20/01/2011 13:30

I have a theory! (Sort of).

The TV series had the same amount of drama but squidged into half an hour. Hence an exciting bit of telly.

The films had an equal amount of plot and drama spaced over 2.5 hours.

Therefore everyone had to move and speak slower and do more crying and make more weird expressions to fill the gaps.

Result = Boring film.

If they'd been 45 minute specials they'd have been fantastic!!

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/01/2011 13:31

I think SATC is fucking awful.

The series was bad enough, but the first film was awful. I can't imagine how bad the 2nd film is.

hairfullofsnakes · 20/01/2011 13:33

I loved SATC but can't bring myself to watch the second film - shall I just ignore it and pretend it never happened?!

flowery · 20/01/2011 13:34

YANBU

willow · 20/01/2011 13:35

I can't be arsed to waste another minute of my life watching this shit.

Me too hair!!

WipsGlitter · 20/01/2011 13:38

I recently watched it (having seen it in the cinema) and it was better the second time around. I think it is trying to deal with some interesting ishoos - settling into marriage, sexuality in older women, the trials of motherhood - but it's in a riduculous setting and it has become more about the clothes, styling and product placement than the characters. I agree with whoever said it was better when it was 45 minutes long!

DuplicitousBitch · 20/01/2011 13:47

i LOVED the tv show. they should have quit when the going was good.

swanandduck · 20/01/2011 13:47

It's a dreadful film. And moving it out of New York kind of lost the whole point of SATC. And please don't start me on the Irish nanny's dreadful accent. I believe the actress is the daughter of Trevor Eve so presumably grew up in England, not in some middle of nowhere town in America where the only Irish person she ever heard speaking was Maureen O Hara in The Quiet Man.

MoonGirl1981 · 20/01/2011 13:50

Is the nanny supposed to be Irish????

Seriously?

I never picked up on that (and my partner is Irish)!

Bless me!

AgentZigzag · 20/01/2011 13:50

DD1 asked what sex in the city was about, I answered 'shopping'.

I've never seen it, was I inadvertently lying to her?

MoonGirl1981 · 20/01/2011 13:58

My son thought that Carrie's name was 'Sex'.

Suppose it makes sense.

Didn't worry me until he pointed at a girl with curly hair in town and said 'She looks like sex'.

Er........!

Don't watch those DVDs much anymore.

hmmSleep · 20/01/2011 14:01

I loved the TV series but this film is seriously awful, Dh was Shock when I told him as I like all films, apart from this one!

taintedpaint · 20/01/2011 14:04

The problem is, the format worked for a series stretched over about 12 hours of footage, but making an episode-like film just hasn't worked. You could easily have squished that film into a 30 minute (or whatever the length is) episode by cutting out the crap and it would've been great, but it just does not work for a film. It feels stretched and forced. There were many scenes that could've easily been cut because they were just plain crap (examples, amongst many, springing to mind are the camel bit, the Miranda/Charlotte drunken conversation about childcare and that fucking stupid bit in the side streets with those women).

I did shamefully enjoy Stanford and Anthony's wedding though. Grin

eandz · 21/01/2011 15:00

sometimes i wish satc never happened. i did love a few of the episodes. i generally just watched it for the clothes and music/accessories. i hated the story lines!

i would NEVER be caught dead living in any of their lives. take about being sensible...but then again, the name of the show wasn't 'sense and the city'.

JamieLeeCurtis · 21/01/2011 15:04

It's shit. The clothes are, mainly, laughable. The "humour" is not laughable (unless you think Benny Hill is funny). It is borderline racist. Embarrassing, really.

GOML - Th first film is Spielberg compared to the second

sadiesadiemarriedlady · 21/01/2011 15:05

It's shit.

mrsoliverramsay · 21/01/2011 15:16

It was ok but I still love the show and I will buy the film because it will complete my collection

ThatllDoPig · 21/01/2011 15:20

YANBU!
I quite liked the first one, which surprised me. But the second one was DIRE, mindless, offensive crap. All the characters are paraodies of themselves, spoilt bratwomen. I found the whole thing really irritating and wish I hadn't wasted time and money seeing it.

TrillianAstra · 21/01/2011 15:20

Liza Minelli does Single Ladies.

That is the only part that could be considered a "good bit".

mayorquimby · 21/01/2011 15:22

Haven't seen the movie but this is my favourite review of all time.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 21/01/2011 15:28

There are some good bits in the second film but there are too many negatives and Miranda and Charlotte don't have enough of a story.

Im still sad they've canned the third film though as I like funny, sexy films about women my age and older.

They need to bring a few more writers on board as I think they still have some good things to say.

I wanted them to flesh out the Miranda being disrespected by her boss story line and have more about what she chose to do about it.
