Just dropping off a couple of Flaming IPOATs for our Rivulet.

JamieLeeCurtis · 21/01/2011 09:50

Hi again all.

Pag - sorry about your DS. Must be hard to feel so-close-yet-so-far. But as hully said it is just a numbers game. English must be one of the most applied-for subjects at Oxford.

He could do what DH did, next year, and apply for something else, get in, then ask to change subjects on his first day (the absolute jammy gall of him) ......

BeribbonedGibbon · 21/01/2011 13:41

wibble

BeribbonedGibbon · 21/01/2011 13:42

That was a general wibble btw...twas a wibblesque moment imvho.

pagwatch · 21/01/2011 13:44

Lol at Jammy Gall

I am hoping he gets offer from Warwick or Exeter which he will just grab with both hands.

How are you Jamie?

JamieLeeCurtis · 21/01/2011 14:21

My cousin did English at Warwick and loved it there. I don't know Exeter but I'm sure it's great, and lovely countryside.

I am very well. I am decorating, and full of energy. And me and DH have a whole night to ourselves tomorrow, so all in all life's very good.

And the DSs are happy. DS1 seems to be moving away from being a perpetual worry to me and turning into a more confident boy. And DS2 is scrummy.

Something must go wrong soon ....

JamieLeeCurtis · 21/01/2011 14:22

Wherefore the wibble Gibbon?

pagwatch · 21/01/2011 14:23

I share thecwhole something must go wrong vibe.. Good news about ds1 Smile

Why the wibbling gibb?

Hullygully · 21/01/2011 15:35

Why wibblest thou?

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down.

Was having a Blackadder moment in my rush of a day. Do you every feel like it's non stop from the moment you wake but still bugger all seems to get done/sorted?

Was very proud of DD1 today, she has always been nervous of water but braved her first swimming lesson this morning. She was a little star Grin took her armbands off and put her head under the water shock

I was in the viewing room with DD2 getting all overcome with pride Grin Seeing her grow more confident is a blessing.

Great news about DS1 James Smile

DD2 has her appointnment next week, she is doing so well now but still uses her left arm less. It's the side that went blue after birth and a few times after. Maybe when she was stuck against my pelvis before they got the cord from around her did some nerve damage? I have no idea really. Everyone keeps saying she is just very lazy chilled out.

How are you today Pag my darling?

BeribbonedGibbon · 21/01/2011 15:51

Hello Hullster Smile

Jins · 21/01/2011 18:00

I'm exhausted!!!

Well that's a slight exaggeration but I've been cooking and baking all day as we have friends coming tomorrow evening and I can't afford a culinary disaster :)

I have made a choice of dessert. I am without doubt learning to be a lady. You are all having a good influence on me

Umami · 21/01/2011 18:17

But what are the desserts from which your guests can choose? Need details!

Jins · 21/01/2011 18:20

Lemon meringue pie

Fruit cocktail cake

and Nigella's Baklava Muffins

The fruit cocktail cake is the easiest thing I've ever made but it's huge

Hullygully · 22/01/2011 13:21

Jins you are a right old show off and no mistake. What's wrong with tinned fruit cocktail and a swiss roll, eh? eh?

BeribbonedGibbon · 22/01/2011 13:59

Widow, you made me laugh and think of

BeribbonedGibbon · 22/01/2011 14:02

Have a lovely evening Jins Smile

I am looking forward to a romantic dinner with DH. It's his birthday his weekend and we are off out tonight.

The half stone I have lost with WW will undoubtedly be piled back on tonight Wink

CheerfulYank · 23/01/2011 05:47

I'm the same way, Gibbon. Had a lovely sleepover with my best friend tonight, and between the copious libations, the stacks upon stacks of cheese and guacamole covered nachoes, and the cheesecake, and the...well, suffice it to say I will be wearing my fat jeans tomorrow and no mistake.

Jins · 23/01/2011 09:26

Oh I feel fuzzy and a bit fat today. Never mind it was fun.

Sorry about the show offiness Hully. I need to aim somewhere in the middle I guess. But OMG the fruit cocktail cake is absolutely a bombproof recipe

CheerfulYank · 23/01/2011 09:33

It does sound fabulous. Wonder if I could start with a box cake mix? The only reason I ask is because I have to make things gluten-free, and the GF cake mixes are good whilst the flour is not.

Jins · 23/01/2011 09:37

If you have a subsitute flour mix that would work for cakes then I don't see why not. I'm not sure about a box mix because it's a fat free cake - apart from the egg. Plenty of sugar to make up for it though

It may work with rice flour. I used to have to cook gluten free a lot and rice flour was my go to alternative

Umami · 23/01/2011 09:57

Cheerful! Bring back your well-turned ankle and dance with us!

(Have you read any Gluten-Free Girl? He writing is lovely, though a bit gushy, and the recipes are very tempting . She has an all-purpose flour mix which is supposed to be very good.)
