To think the price on the Tesco scan-as-you-shop scanner should be the price you pay!

Our Tesco's has scan-as-you-shop scanners, so you can scan your own shopping and pay at the end. I love them. They are quick and easy, and you don't have to keep unloading and reloading your shopping.

However, today, I scanned a pack of baked beans, and it came up with a banner saying "2 for £3". So I got another one. For some reason I checked my till receipt at the end. Did I get two for three pounds? Did I arses.I was annoyed enough to queue at the customer disservice till and got a £6.50 rebate, so I'm not out of pocket, but I bloody well think this is fraudulent of Tesco, to not automatically charge the prices that have come up on the scanner. It is obvious that the scanners use a different price database to the tills, God knows why, and the two are out of synch.

I bet most people never check. I never have before.

I don't do the scan thing, but Tesco often don't actually apply their special 3 for 2 offer type things, have only noticed when I gerbils and look at the receipt. They are thieving rob dog shitheads the lot of them.

MissQue · 16/01/2011 16:44

Good job you checked your receipt! The prices on the scanner and the till should be the flaming same, surely the point in having the scanner is so that you can keep track of spending and stick to a budget???

tyler80 · 16/01/2011 16:45

YABU

I've got some great deals because Tesco give you double the difference back so I'm quite happy for them to get it wrong Smile

PuppyMonkey · 16/01/2011 16:45

Gerbils Grin bleddy iPhone. I meant " get home" just to be clear.

Scrumpet · 16/01/2011 16:46

I think you're paying too much for baked beans if they're anything like £1.50 a tin Shock Or are they the special baked beans with gold leaf in the sauce?

tyler80 · 16/01/2011 16:47

It says pack of beans, I presumed a pack of four tins?

Butterbur · 16/01/2011 16:48

Packs of 6, not indivual tins, Scrumpet! I'm on the warpath on behalf of people (like me) who don't check their receipts.

Omg 'gerbils' lmao Grin

TattyDevine · 16/01/2011 16:50

I saw that "gerbils" and instantly thought "iPhone"

PuppyMonkey · 16/01/2011 16:51

Am psml at the gerbils thing.

manicbmc · 16/01/2011 16:52

There's a site devoted to iphone mistakes. It's very funny.

RustyBear · 16/01/2011 16:59

Damnyouautocorrect.com

Apparently MNHQ comes out as 'Gwen'....

Karaishere · 16/01/2011 17:02

LOL at gerbils.

This happens everywhere and it's not just the self scan tills either. Asda do it quite a lot too, seem to spend half my life queueing at their customer service Angry

TheSkiingGardener · 16/01/2011 17:13

It's not the scanners, it's the tills in general not applying discounts. When you pay at the end the scanner puts what you have scanned through the till.

My mother frequently catches Waitrose out with this and gets very cross. I've started checking my receipts as a result but haven't noticed any mistakes yet.

ivykaty44 · 16/01/2011 17:18

it is a ploy to get you to buy the product twice and then pay twice, only a small % of people will check their bill and so its a good trick

tyler80 · 16/01/2011 17:21

I think my best 'discount' has been two bottles of wine going through at 8.99 instead of 4.99

So I ended up paying 2 quid for two bottles of wine (Paid 18 quid, they refunded 16 quid as double the difference of what they'd overcharged me)

I'm happy for them to make those sorts of mistakes Grin

BootyMum · 16/01/2011 23:01

Gosh I wish my local sainsburys would refund double the difference... I always check my receipt and often find instances where discounts have not been applied. Then spend ages queueing at Customer Services to be met by the bored indifference of some 18 year old assistant who sends someone to check item on shelf and then will reluctantly and unapologetically refund me my pound or two...

I almost can't be bothered to be honest but the principle of it makes me get my pound back every time Grin

God, hi-jacking this thread again, but that damnyouautocorrect site is the funniest thing I have ever read. Cannot stop ROFL. Thanks for posting the link.

ILovedYou · 17/01/2011 15:08

Tesco have always done this. I always check the til receipt now.

mincenmash · 17/01/2011 15:20

YANBU - they should be able to afford to pay staff to at least match up their databases after the billions in profit they rake in. I always check my receipt as have often been fleeced by Tesco not ringing through the expected offers. They used to have a policy in Tesco a few years back where you got the money back and got to keep the product as it was their mistake. I got a few free things like that, but think they've changed it now as was probably ccosting them way too much?

FiveFeetTwo · 17/01/2011 15:22

I have just sprayed coffee all over the screen at "Gerbils"

Brilliant!

Grin
GauchitaBell · 17/01/2011 15:33

OP, YANBU.

I'm in tears reading damnyouautocorrect.com!

KarmaDevil · 17/01/2011 15:33

Also hijacking the thread but that damnautocorrect site OMG I'm in tears laughing. DD2 is looking at me like I've got 2 heads. Grin

choccyp1g · 17/01/2011 15:39

So what did "gerbils" actually mean?

catsmother · 17/01/2011 15:48

I've lost count of the times Tesco have charged me wrongly - probably, at a rough guess, there's something wrong on the receipt every 15th shop. Okay - you get double the difference - usually ... but all too often accompanied by scowls and eyebrow raising, and the slowest possible trudge back to the shelf to check you're not lying about the advertised price, and heaven forbid you get a "sorry". About 6 or 7 weeks ago I was told they'd stopped doing double the difference though a couple of weeks later I got it again .... so right now I have no idea if they're doing double the difference or not ?!?
