To think the price on the Tesco scan-as-you-shop scanner should be the price you pay!

Our Tesco's has scan-as-you-shop scanners, so you can scan your own shopping and pay at the end. I love them. They are quick and easy, and you don't have to keep unloading and reloading your shopping.

However, today, I scanned a pack of baked beans, and it came up with a banner saying "2 for £3". So I got another one. For some reason I checked my till receipt at the end. Did I get two for three pounds? Did I arses.I was annoyed enough to queue at the customer disservice till and got a £6.50 rebate, so I'm not out of pocket, but I bloody well think this is fraudulent of Tesco, to not automatically charge the prices that have come up on the scanner. It is obvious that the scanners use a different price database to the tills, God knows why, and the two are out of synch.

I bet most people never check. I never have before.

Tesco did this on my online order the other week, there was a £10 difference between the Your Order Price and my invoice. When I rang them up they went on about

  • The 'specials' not always being offered by the time you got your delivery (told them I'd ordered it the night before and the specials I had, showed the dates of the special being far beyond the delivery day.)

  • Prices change due to suppliers (I said what £10 overnight? A few pence maybe, but £10.)

The price on line and your check out amounts are guidelines (I said, WTF? If it's your price when I shop on line for next day delivery, that* is the price I expect to pay!)

Dunno why but it's a guideline* (Spoke to the manager at this stage, got the same replies, stated the same facts. He said it did sound a bit odd and offered to refund the difference this time. I explained it woudn't be necessary to do it in the future :) as I didn't intend to shop with them again after this - at which point he became far more friendly and said that of course they would always look into any problems yadda yadda yadda)

[Which reminds me, I need to check and see if they have in fact refunded me! Gits}

I once bought a birthday present for a friend's ds at Tesco, which was supposed to be £11, but they charged me £18, so when I went to customer service and got double the difference back, I actually got paid to take the toy Grin
Asda always skank me out of a few pounds though Angry

Regardless of their accuracy, why use the self scanners?
Do you really want to help tesco put more people on the dole?
1st it was self serve and tesco cut down on checkout staff.
Now comes self scan to help speed up the process of getting rid of more staff.

Tesco are deceitful in the way they price things, doubling their usual prices and telling us it is Buy one get one free, they also keep rearranging their store layout to make finding your regular items harder and hoping you will buy more stuff.
Now they asking you to help them cut jobs.

I was charged £18 for 12 petit filous at morrisons this week. Clearly they thought I had bought 12 x 6 packs. I had not.

Spotted it on receipt & was refunded - but not double the difference, sadly. I think this was human error from the person at the checkout rather than the computer.

SteeleyeSpanx · 27/09/2014 13:14

They're not obliged to refund you even the difference, let alone double it!

Instead of complaining, how about being grateful that they do this at all?

Life would be a lot less angst-ridden for many people if they actually read the T&Cs before getting all irate about things...

ZOMBIE THREAD!

Noticed quite a few old threads being pointlessly dragged up lately.
