To name change again!!!! reasons for doing so

I have been a member on mumsnet since 2002 and I have just changed names for the hundrenth time.

Normally it's because I have posted too much infomation on myself and do not want to run the risk of being found out in RL.

I wondered if other people frequently name change or prefer to stay the same to build up an online persona.

I obviously know lots of names from over the years but no-one will know who I am.

I namechange every 3 months or so. Its partly an effort to remain anonymous to anyone in real life who knows me and may have realised its me (unlikely) and partly to not build up too much of a profile on here and be known for anything specific.

When I post an AIBU, if its anything vaguely contentious, I tend to namechange too specifically for that question because if someone does reply in a harsh manner or no nonsense way, I know its because of the subject content, not because they have fallen out with me in another thread. So if everyone piles on you and says YABU you know its because you are, not because of who you are.

I can't be bothered.

I did have one for embarrassing/detailed posts but I can't remember what it is now!

The singing and dancing thing really isn't a time issue. If you'd heard/seen it in person you'd be thanking me for not inflicting it upond the good people of Norfolk.

I think i've posted every single personal detail about me under my recognizable name!
I don't name people I talk about, though, and try to leave important details out if I'm worried they'll disown me.

If someone did recognise themselves from my posts, I guess I could always get them deleted...

I once namechanged to a name that was linked to my proper name (nickelbabe) but didn't mention it - TheDevilEatsBabies - it was my halloween name, and it's based on the origin of the word nickel (from the germen Kupfernickel meaning devil's copper) but noone recognised me :( (was still quite new then)

so now all my namechanges have nickel in them.

FWIW, DH calls me nickelbabe too, sometimes (sometimes when he' trying to be horny and seductive... Hmm ) - that's because i was nickelbabe IRL first (it started as my email address when i left uni)

talking of stalkers, Reality Grin

Hullygully · 11/01/2011 12:15

I've lost my stalker. Careless. Altho it may have been a nemesis.

pranma · 11/01/2011 12:15

it worked but I dont need to do it I dont think

StormInaCCup · 11/01/2011 12:17

I've just namechanged for the first time. Was TwinklePants but fancied something a bit more witty so thought 'why not?' i'd like to keep the same name now though, so I can make some 'friends' on MN.

nickelbabyjesus · 11/01/2011 12:17

who was your stalker Hully?

I thought everyone stalked you! Wink

I'm thinking of putting something ttc in my new name - like "nickelwantsababy" maybe? or does that make me sound like I might be willing to kidnap?

Hullygully · 11/01/2011 12:20

I can't remember, otherwise I could chide them for their unstalkerly ways.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 11/01/2011 12:20

I have an 11 yo bookworm you could borrow till Easter nickel.

Hullygully · 11/01/2011 12:21

ooh, Chaos , child-slave-labour, that sounds perfect.

Hully I need a girl. called Eleanor.
a girl with another name will be fine, as long as i can change it (while we're on the subject)
and a boy would be fine, too, if he's cute.

I like it.

nickelbabysnatcher · 11/01/2011 12:24

how's that?
Grin

Hullygully · 11/01/2011 12:24

I have an Eleanor. I'll fed-ex her.

My dd has told me that she won't be having any children. She is going to adopt a five year old Asian girl called Summer and will accept no other.

nickelbabysnatcher · 11/01/2011 12:24

ooh, I feel like King Herod [glee]

nickelbabysnatcher · 11/01/2011 12:25

(i won't kill her - that was a x-post!)

nickelbabysnatcher · 11/01/2011 12:25

I'll take her.

Hullygully · 11/01/2011 12:25

Let's bet on how long until the complaints roll in. Babies are snatched in real life, you know. Mostly, they are in my armoire.
