To think a police officer should have more sense?

I have just seen a police officer say on his Facebook page "has finally got my car to move and has now found a great big fucking scratch on the door, pikeys....."

Spenguin The fact he is a police officer is relevant. As this thread shows some people don't realise pikey is an offensive and racist term but a police officer definitely would and therefore shouldn't use it.

altinkum There was an incident where a man was convicted of calling the manageress of a nightclub called Bugatti's in Crowborough a pikey cos he claimed she had stolen his friend's jacket.

Pikey is a racist and offensive term - despite the excuses some are trying to make for this police officer to be so stupid as to use this term and then to actually say it on FB, which isnt exactly private. We all know racism exists but Id have thought he'd have a bit more sense than to put his thoughts in writing.

Wow something is definitely in the air today, I agree with Buzz.

sorry - off topic but

Scurry - should i ditch it altogether do you think? its something ive been wondering about...

scurryfunge · 11/01/2011 18:38

Vicar,

It depends what you use it for really. If you catch up with distant real life friends, then it would seem quite useful and harmless. It will drive you nuts when you have constant harassment allegations fuelled by facebook.

I would keep it very bland and non committal with absolutely no personal thoughts about anything that may come back to haunt you.

In your probation it is also very easy to be dismissed for any old reason. Give fb a 2 year break Grin.

ThatVikRinA22 · 11/01/2011 18:43

thanks scurry - just confirmed what i thought really

think ill keep it there as i have a pal in australia and its been useful while DS has been working in the states....but think ill refrain from writing on it. id like to think id not ever write anything daft on it anyway...

but safer not to write at all! ta!

SixtyFootDoll · 11/01/2011 20:48

Vicar - just be careful
My FB friends aare mainly colleagues and old friends. No one who I dont know in Rl.
But i am very careful about what I say and what photos i put on.

Same on here too, I never talk muh about really personal stuff and am careful about how I refer to knowledge about certain topics.

Hope it's all going well/

Nevereatyellowsnow · 11/01/2011 21:20

I honestly didn't know pikey was considered to be a racist term. I always thought it was used to describe scummy people in general not anyone belonging to a particular ethnic group Confused

BerylStreep · 11/01/2011 21:21

Spenquin Police officers are not classed as self employed. They are 'servants of the Crown' and therefore not employees. But not self employed.
