To prefer well groomed people to scruffs?

So, a friend and I were discussing over lunch today how we felt about meeting others that were perhaps less groomed than us.

Where I work, I have to deal with people that perhaps are not the cleanest or look like they have just rolled out of bed and have not even and wash - basic hygiene costs nothing. It makes me go bleugh.

Does this sort of thing bother you or am I being over sensitive?

I've given up. I'm one of these people that however hard I try never look neat. So I have clean clothes and don't smell and I'll stick with that.

flyingvisit · 09/01/2011 10:51

I am a mum to boys only. I wonder if this has an impact.

flyingvisit · 09/01/2011 10:52

bronze, me as well. I will never be airhostess perfect. I have my hair curly (that makes a difference). I wear similar to what has been decsribed here - jeans, tunics but alas always looks scruffy.
Love me or leave me.

bellavita · 09/01/2011 10:55

And I am going to paint my nails tonight with the same colour as I bought one too Grin

I am a mum to two boys flying, DS2 is perfectly groomed and DS1 is less so, but always clean.

bronze · 09/01/2011 10:55

3 of my 4 are boys too, maybe
I think I've always been like it though. I can wash my hands and within minutes my nails look grim. I have friends who stay immaculate al day. I don't know how they do it

goingroundthebend4 · 09/01/2011 10:57

Hmm I'm clean but scruffy though couple times rushed round getting dc. One into taxi has Sn one teen booted out door then take dd to school and failed to have showerin morning till get back

I don't wear makeup or nail polish and as a rule hairs up in ponytail.
Infact in such a scruff people do double look when Im dressed ip to go somewhere special as look so differnt, still no make up though as never worn

but then if people Want to judge m. On my first look shows just how shallow and insecure they are about themselves

BitOfFun · 09/01/2011 10:58

I'll be groomed when I leave the house, I promise I won't embarrass you to the neighbours any more than you already have

Love trills who can't be bothered to log in properly

flyingvisit · 09/01/2011 10:59

I have never worn polish. Only clear or french. It (colour) looks awful on my hands.

CheerfulYank · 09/01/2011 11:06

I'm the same. Make-up wears off my face rapidly (but I wear it anyway) and my nails always get scruffy-looking. Wonder why? Oh, and my hair never holds any style so it's always in a knot or just hanging.

Stase · 09/01/2011 11:55

My hair looks awful blow dried, like Anthea Turner circa 1995, so I never do it, even at the hairdressers where I am a rarely spotted sight.
Also, only unperfumed cosmetics, perfume and make-up only on a night out, and no fabric conditioner, it makes me gag!
Am still clean though!

Stase · 09/01/2011 11:56

And a big fat NO to any kind of car or room fragrance, even the ads make me hold my breath!

Laquitar · 09/01/2011 12:55

I'm tired of the 'you are wasting water, you shouldn't wash often' line. There are many other things you can do for the planet. But shower is essential. Clothes, make-up i don't care what others do btw.

NinkyNonker · 09/01/2011 13:14

I am always clean, try to make an effort with clothes, accessories etc but never feel glossy/put together...if you get me. I always feel like a scruff. Dh informs me I couldn't look scruffy if I tried,as have friends,so maybe that says more about my perception of myself than how others see me! With a 5 mo old baby who doesn't like to be put down and won't nap in the day I'm not always as 'ready' as I'd like to be which bugs me. Office wear was when I was corporate was easy, nice skirt/dress/suit,heels etc.

Not sure I would judge others unless they smelt or had greasy hair. Especially greasy fringes, yuck. I have a fringe (lovely hairdresser attacked a little too much last time though...) and it isn't rocket science to keep clean and tidy.

NinkyNonker · 09/01/2011 13:15

Oh, and have to have neat fingernails and feet.

borderslass · 09/01/2011 13:19

I once worked beside someone who had really bad BO,really greasy hair etc, my supervisor pulled her aside for a chat about personal hygiene it was that bad.Last week I was unfortunate enough to be in the bank at the same time as her and her mother a woman let them go in front it was that bad they brought air freshener out after they'd gone. I told DD2[15] and pointed them out to her on way to school and her reaction was OMG they stink.

SycamoretreeIsVile · 09/01/2011 21:38

I like nice smelling ladies and gentlemen.

And children.

It's how I found this thread. I smelled the delicious scent some brazen, painted hussies I used to know.

Pray tell, what the bejeezus is Bear???
