I was referred by my GP for a scan to rule out ovarian cysts and had the scan on 2/12. The nurse at the clinic advised me to contact my GP for the results in a week. I contacted my surgery on 10/12 and the result wasn't there. I tried again on the 20th and the results still weren't there so the receptionist advised I try again in a week.

I left it longer because I knew that they would be busy with the holidays so I called this afternoon. The results still aren't there and the receptionist said I was being impatient and should wait for the hospital to contact me which she is sure they will do eventually. I said 'actually I was hoping that it could be chased up as they have been delayed so much'. I thought I was being polite but obviously not as the receptionist told me not to be so ridiculous and I should try and follow procedure. I said that I thought I had as I had been told to contact my GP in a week.

She grudgingly agreed to try and chase it up and said they will try and contact me tomorrow. I am getting really worried about my results now even though I know it is silly.

sounds like it might be common in that practise for things to take longer ad she isn't used to someone actually wanting teh results when tehy were told they would be there. glad she is chasing it up for you.

No you're not. You were told to phone a week later for results. It's been longer than that. Of course you're gonna chase it up, the receptionist was very rude to call you ridiculous.

I dont think you are being unreasonable at all. It sounds like you were polite and you have waited just over a month for results.

The receptionist should chase it up and not be so uppity!

Of course YANBU. She's being unnecessarily difficult and unsympathetic to boot. I wonder how she'd like to be waiting that long for the result of an investigation?

I would be making an appointment to speak to a doctor or the practice nurse directly.

Thanky you, when I called this afternoon I thought leaving it 5 weeks was being nice because it was 5 weeks longer than I was told. I came of the phone feeling really guilty.

I did once get handed someone's file at work and it had a section in it saying her emergency contact was her 19 year old daughter. The person was 26 and my colleague said why do you think it might be the wrong contact details when I asked about it

Keep calling once a week. Don't be afraid to be the squeaky wheel. My mom had to do this for her breast cancer results (unfortunately positive) and it turns out that they had been "mis-filed". Accept that the staff may get uppity but you have every right to request your results.

YANBU. What do you do, sit and wait forever? It shouldn't take over 1 month for the results to come through. Maybe they've been lost in the Christmas post? Silly woman (receptionist, not you).

Make an appointment to see the GP rather than going through the receptionist.

YANBU. Even with the Christmas break you should have had them by now so speak to your GP.

I had some (pretty urgent and potentially serious) blood tests done when 40 weeks pregnant.

I called for the results and after being away looking for them for ages (and obviously not finding them) the receptionist told me everything was 'probably fine' and to come back for more tests in 6 weeks instead .

I moved surgery and the difference with the whole staff, GPs and receptionists alike, is amazing.

YANBU - and the receptionist was a bit rude IMHO!

We get cross when our hospital tells Pts XRays will be available in 3 days. In 3 day someone at the hospital has looked at them, but the typed report doesn't get released to the GP for some time - via the post! Anything urgent is telephoned/faxed straight to GP.

Yes, sometimes the GP can log onto the hospital system and look up a result, but until he looks he won't know it's there, whereas when they arrive at the surgery they are put in his tray & on your records, with a comment for when you call up for the results.

I had an MRIlast and was told my GP would have the result within 10days. Part of it (2 scans) was finally reported on >2 months later, the other was "lost" and I had to have another scan. When I arrived for said scan, the scanner could see my original "missing" result on the PC in front of her!

I thought they maybe under estimated the time Milli. That's why I waited 5 times longer before asking if they could check up on the result.

Make an appointment to see your GP and explain how worried you are because the results haven't come through as promised by the hospital. You might also drop in the fact that the receptionist said you were being impatient.

I got 2 out of 3 results and kept ringing for the 3rd one, Eventually the receptionist thought to ask the nurse and she said they wouldn't have been done since they weren't back. Another surgery had decided to only do 2 out of the 3 tests a GP had asked for . I had to go back and have them all done again. A total waste of my time and NHS resources.

I think you need to by-pass the dopey receptionist and speak to the GP or practice nurse.
Agree with the poster who said that the 'squeaky wheel gets the grease'!! By phoning for results about YOUR BODY you are NOT being in any way unreasonable!
Tell the GP face to face or on the phone that your results are delayed by weeks and can they help chase it up. Good luck.

Spoke to the GP today and got my results. Everything is OK :). I'm so relieved.

I also have been waiting for XRays to come back. I finally saw my GP who said she'll have them Monday. She was less than pleased as well at the delay.

I suggest ringing the scan department and advising that you went for a scan on the 2/12 and as yet the results are not in and you are somewhat concerned.
