Yes! YABU. I love Waitrose, and John Lewis. The staff are soo friendly and helpful, it actually makes the whole food shopping experience bearable.
The only problem is that every time I pop in for a pint of milk I can never come out without having spent £36. Why is it always £36?

Love Waitrose. Love the food, the veggie range, the neatness of it, the little old ladies who wear gloves and ask you to reach the top shelf for you and then give a little phttt from their derriere as they walk away (yes, this has happened to me more than once)

Plus today I went in and in an orgy and red mist bargain hunter, bought loads of crackers and ribbon to put away for next year.

Most importantly, they have good animal welfare standards.

I would also like my ashes scattered there. It will be one dusty supermarket.

I feel sad that a supermarket makes so people happy - are your lives that empty?

OP- are you really working for Tesco?Smile

Apart from your first post- and one other whic h is all about inverted snobbery- you don't say why you don't like Waitrose Hmm

if you don't like it, then at least say why and don't just make a statement you can't back up.

I love it- in fact if I were ever to move it would be dictated by where there was a Waitrose.

They are a "foodies" supermarket- so if you live off ready meals and don't appreciate quality raw ingredients, then I can see why you may prefer Morrisons or Asda.

I live near Rochdale and we're not posh enough to have a Waitrose within 30 miles or so!

I used to never be able to find what I wanted in waitrose but that was a few years back. now I want to try them again (because of mn) and there isn't one near. 'Tis odd because there are ot of posh people in norfolk

Tesco will do me as I buy meat, eggs cleaning produts, nappies etc etc from different places.
I only use them as a basic grocer.

Cabbage one minute you're talking about forms of snobbery the next your implying that people who shop at morrisons or asda don't appreciate raw ingredients. Tosh

Shopping in Waitrose is a divine experience. Clean, bright, wide aisles, friendly staff, friendly fellow shoppers, shelves with attractive Waitrose labels and good quality food. I also don't find it more expensive than Tesco as I now buy Waitrose branded stuff instead of branded and have saved money. True I don't get clubcard points but instead I have the glow of shopping somewhere nice.

bronze- I never said that I wasn't a snob though, did I? Smile

TBH the one reason- apart from the food- that I like Waitrose is that you don't have to mix with the rabble people who go to Tesco.

Booths is fab.

As is waitrose. Wide aisles, loads of nice food, friendly staff....!

Sainsburys feels too gloomy and dark.

Tescos has narrow aisles and there is always an edgy atmosphere in my local one.

chic- if you shop with a Waitrose partnership card you get points then JL vouchers 4 x a year. we get around £100 every time as we use our partnership card for almost everything then pay it off in full each month.

Waitrose is pricey as hell, it'll cost me twice as much if I do a full shop there than tesco or morrisons.
sainsburys is my level.
morrisons is good for some stuff but appalling hazelnut yoghurt.
tesco's is ok but I feel like I'm shoring up a vile corporate antichrist when I shop there.

Cabbage -that's why I shop online Grin

I don't like the ethics of tesco but they do stock the few things I need and deliver it the They do ahve the basics which I never found in Waitrose. I was able to get my poncy stuff but when I want to buy large packets of pasta and the like then it's rubbish. I am using them less and less now though as I find othe rmeans of buying in bulk.

YA so BU. A supermarket which actually sells a good range of proper food, has staff who understand customer service and are rewarded/incentivised by being shareholders. What's not to like?

I have honeslty never found Waitrose to be dearer than elsewhere. Where else can you buy a pack of outdoor reared sausages for under £1?

Obv. the pigs were outdoor reared. You can't really rear a sausage.

If the meat is as cheap as other supermarkets it makes you wonder at what deal the farmers are getting.

we don't have a waitrose near us.

I shop online with ocado though and tbh the waitrose foods are very expensive - about 20% more than other brands.

Dh has in fact told me I have to stop using ocado as it's too expensive.

I am coming back to the UK for the weekend from France. The first place I am going, before I even put my case down, is Waitrose.
