Shouldn't we have threads recommending our fave products at different supermarkets? Who knew about Waitrose sirloin steak or the bogs dollocks Davidstow Cheddar? Not me, but they'll be on my list henceforth.

We've done it plenty of times for Lidl.

I know the peanut puffs that you're talking about, I like them too. I used to have them as a kid but not here, in Austria. They used to be sold at all supermarkets there and I think they still are.

They also have them everywhere in the French supermarkets. They don't seem to be widely available in the UK markets though.... which is a good thing as I really do like them.

The best Waitrose product for me is the Davidstow Cheddar. I take kilos of it with me when I visit colleagues in France, they love it.

YANBU. I tried the one in West Ealing once, and never went back. Reminded me of a vastly overpriced Kwik Save for rich idiots. That was years ago but nipped into the Sandbach one recently for a butty and wasn't impressed with shop or butty.
Local market and Tesco/Sainsbobs for me.

Waitrose rocks for food (not for branded cleaning products which are very expensive).

It's my nearest supermarket and that's why I shop there.

DS (4) is a fussy eater - he only ate meat when it was from waitrose. So must be good.

He's now a veggie at 4.5!But still grateful to waitrose.

My mother adores Waitrose because 'you get a much nicer class of assistant there'. I once had to take her to a Tesco and she was muttering the whole way round - by the time we got to the checkout I was ready to kill her...but she finished me off by saying to the (extremely pleasant) cashier 'You get better cardboard boxes in Waitrose you know..'.

I gave the poor girl a very sympathetic smile

We use, and love, Ocado. Tesco delivery, which we used before, were lamentable and the final straw was when they turned up without any bread and said they had no suitable substitute at all. Waitrose has a fantastic range of interesting food. Although having been to Booth's while on holiday once, I do have envy. It was brilliant.

I'm lucky we have waitrose as our local shop less than five minutes away but I do admit to nipping across the street to buy White sliced loaf and normal White potatoes from iceland!!!
The meat in waitrose tastes like meat not the tasteless protein you can buy in asda.
I do pop to the other side of town to tesco occasionally to have a browse through the clothes books DVDs etc though.

I love love love Waitrose, particularly our local one. But I think the branches that used to be Safeways aren't as good.

All the staff are really nice and helpful, they have a brilliant range (much better than the massive Tesco near us) and it's a nice environment to shop in. I don't think it's any more expensive than other places for the stuff we buy.

I am biaised though as they gave me a free bottle of champagne when I had DD .

I didn't have her in Waitrose itself BTW, have just been going there for years and they are nice.

YANBU OP I don't like especially like waitrose either and I think the range in our medium sized local store is poor.

It is also strangely white and souless, I find it quite depressing to be honest.

That being said I did order my wedding cake from Waitrose and it was very nice!

I usually shop in Sainsburys but don't have any particular brand loyalty it just happens to be our nearest supermarket.

Waitrose is fab and for everyone that says they are expensive, they price match almost all their branded goods now with Tesco so that isn't expensive at all. Agree their own brand stuff is more expensive than say, ASDA, but it also far superior to their muck.

The meat is often off when you buy it.
Even their Essentials range is expensive.
They call you Madam (bleugh)

Morrisons is the best supemarket, but I am trying to avoid them all.

I get bread from the bakers
Meat from the butchers
Cheese from the deli
Veggies from the Greengrocers
Tins from the skanky cheapo frozen food shop
Eggs from nearby small farm.(proper free range £2 for a dozen)

But I am lucky to work near good small shops which are much much cheaper than Waitrose, especially as you don't come out with loads of rubbish you didn't really need and that will make you fat!

Actually I do a monthly Asda trolly dash to get all the non perishables[sp?]. I fill my trolly and save a fortune compared to Waitrose prices.

I then visit Waitroses several times a month for all the food and nice bits.

I like some things about Waitrose, loathe other things.

Love:

The hot chickens are yum (Tesco's are vile)

The fishmonger's in our local one, although pricey, is very good - very fresh produce and the fishmongers are knowledgable.

Their essential range is good value and pretty good.

Loathe:

They are cold. Always so very cold!

Over-priced fruit and veg which really isn't any better than any other supermarket (...and is always freezing cold to boot. See above)

Ridiculous amounts of poncy packaging they use. Seemingly everything comes in a foil container, double wrapped in cellophane and with a poncy cardboard sleeve.

The 'bakery'. The bread is alright, but the baked goods are awful, bordering stale. Solid cakes, rock hard iced cupcakes. Yuck. Sainsbo's bakery vastly superior.

My local one is full of wax-jacket wearing Tory grannies with lemons up their arses in their mouths.

I go to the Sheffield one.

The bread is always fresh. The meat and fish are always good quality and nowhere near use by. Never had any off meat. The fruit and veg actually looks nice enough to eat (and after some of the stuff I have had from Asda and Sainburys in the past this is a v good thing.)

I like their gourmet ingredients and their mushroom and mascarpone pizzas.

Couldnt do a complete shop there though for price and variety reasons.
