With a very limited range?

no they are like Watsits but covered in peanut gloop - fantastic things

you can get them in Sapin - everywhere but not in the UK - until I found them in Waitrose!

hobbgoblin · 05/01/2011 22:38

I love waitrose but I never buy packaged bread there as is ALWAYS too stale.

ShowOfHands · 05/01/2011 22:40

I went in one today. It was awful.

igetmorelovefromthecat · 05/01/2011 22:43

I don't rate it at all. Can never get anything I want there and end up paying £60 for 2 carriers bags of stuff I don't really want.

charliesmommy · 05/01/2011 22:45

Packaged bread in our waitrose is always fresher than the sainsburys up the road.. sadly the meat counter is crap, and full of very dried up looking meat...

It has a great deli though.

My shopping trip comprises of tesco, then waitrose, then finishing up at Sainsburys.. as all three have items that only they sell, and I must have... lol..

Hassled · 05/01/2011 22:45

I love Waitrose. I love everything about it. Smiley happy old people ambling about - what's not to like?

ensure · 05/01/2011 22:46

It's ok, but it's no Booths.

flinginghasflung · 05/01/2011 22:47

It's a shop you go to if you want to host a dinner party...that's it. Still naice and fab, but not a normal supermarket. I get pissed off with Sainsburys because they sell too much rubbish, like clothes, spoons and bathmats and miss out some essential food items, like a good variety of fruit!

hobbgoblin · 05/01/2011 22:47

I have to shop to a strict list I must say, but it is great for shopping when you have menu planned and just have a list of ingredients to buy. Veg and meat good and high success rate in finding more 'interesting' recipe essentials.

If I tried to shop like I'd shop in Asda then it would cost the earth.

I also buy all cleaning things and toiletries and nappies elsewhere in order to save money.

JennyRobyn · 05/01/2011 22:48

Never been to waitrose..ever. We dont have one and not sure where i would even find one.

TBH i the impression i have is that you have to be a little bit posh to shop there and i am nothing but common!! Grin

jacksgrannie · 05/01/2011 22:49

Those of you who live near a Waitrose are so lucky.

We have to travel miles and miles to get to one. The nearest one (16 miles) is quite small, but has more food you actually want to eat than the most enormous Tesco or Morrisons (ASDA not to be mentioned obv).

Waitrose is the best for unusual varieties of veg, organic food and does not see the need to provide you with 501 varieties of potato based snacks or pot noodle. Also their wine is really interesting. Their buyer buys from some small independent wineries.

There are rumours of a Waitrose being built in our town, within a new housing development. I shall put my name down for the house nearest the Waitrose main entrance.

onceamai · 05/01/2011 22:51

Perhaps they vary but the meat in ours in well worth the extra. Buy a little there for convenience but try to shop sensibly and avoid it for everyday stuff that's cheaper elsewhere.

Lilymaid · 05/01/2011 22:52

I've tried to live without Waitrose, but I can't. Other supermarkets are eurgh in comparison (excepting Booths of course, but I live 160 miles from the nearest branch).

curlymama · 05/01/2011 22:54

I'm feeling the need to know more about Booths, I've never even heard of them.

littleducks · 05/01/2011 22:55

I went into a waitrose in the city today next to a tesco. Both small 'metro' type stores. I needed potatoes, butter, bread. It was cheaper in waitrose Hmm

I dont know if tesco bump their prices up for city bankers but it genuinely was, butter 97p in waitrose, none less than £1 in tesco, potaotes (cheapest) £1.37 waitrose for 2.5kg whereas cheapest in tesco was £1.35 for 1.5 kg

SlowComfortableShrew · 05/01/2011 22:57

YABVVU I heart waitrose.

PerArduaAdNauseum · 05/01/2011 23:00

Agree with everyone who says Waitrose have a better selection of actual food. You don't have to walk through aisles of shit and clothes to get a basket full of ingredients. Having said that, I mostly use our closest sainsburys atm as it's a small one without all the homewares etc, but they're refitting for a clothes section so I may end up driving the extra 15 minutes to waitrose after all...

one word - artichokes - the only place I could ever find them on a regular basis was Waitrose, we don't have one where we are now and DPs kids just don't understand why I can't just buy them, actually nor can I.

PeeringIntoAFestiveVoid · 05/01/2011 23:02

YABU and mad as hatter (a hatter with very poor taste). Grin

charliesmommy · 05/01/2011 23:02

Tesco and Sainsburys Metros are a rip off.

We have loads of Waitrose around here.. but the new one in Banstead is under delusions of being Selfridges food hall... and the customers who swan around in there seem to think that is where they are too!!!..

I am amazed they can see the shelves as their noses are stuck so high in the air!.. lol..

curlymama · 05/01/2011 23:04

Thanks BeerTricks. Looks yummy, except they're at the wrong end of the country for me! Smile

sfxmum · 05/01/2011 23:14

about Booths MIL shops there, one near her home but she complains that there is not Waitrose near her like we have near us
they seem pretty similar to me with regional variations

SlightlyJaded · 05/01/2011 23:23

I am a 5 minute walk from a decent sized Waitrose. It makes me happy. It is my spiritual home :)

PerArduaAdNauseum · 05/01/2011 23:37

I used to be 5 minutes walk from a good sized John Lewis. Happy days...
