... and completely subvert it??!! Looking round these boards we have a huge amount of wit, wisdom and intelligence, and could transform the DM, and by doing so, transform all those who believe its pronouncements to be akin to those sent down the mountain on Tablets of Stone.

genius!

backwardpossom · 03/01/2011 10:43

YANBU it would be fantastic! Grin

JaxTellersOldLady · 03/01/2011 10:43

no because it is not the paper itself. It is the powers that run the media as a whole that is the problem. We only get to hear or read what THEY want us to know and campaign about.

They are all terrible in measures.

Blatherskite · 03/01/2011 10:51

Oh that would be fun :)

StayingFatherChristmasGirl · 03/01/2011 10:52

But if we owned and ran the DM, it would tell people what we want them to know.

I can see the slogan now - Mumsnet - changing the world, one DM reader at a time.

Great idea Grin But I think it would have to be a secret, secret plot discussed only in the most private of forums... if the readership knew, it'd spoil the fun...

5ofus · 03/01/2011 10:53

Put me down for £5 towards it.

Scaredycat3000 · 03/01/2011 10:57

Grin I've just got back from a few days to the IL's and decided not to offer to buy them the paper as I didn't want to buy The Mail.

dementedma · 03/01/2011 10:59

wow, it really winds some people up doesn't it? don't buy/read it if you don't like it.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 03/01/2011 11:01

"don't buy/read it if you don't like it"

I don't think it's as simple as that.

I think it's the evidence of the bigotry, moronic stupidity and general ignorance that is constantly condoned and displayed by those who read it that gets people's goats.

sue52 · 03/01/2011 11:10

The only possible use for the DM would be in a national lavatory shortage.

theevildead2 · 03/01/2011 11:10

The problem is as I see it.. Many many memumsnetters seem to read it.. How many links do we see on AIBU and Chat? It's fun. Precisly because its horrible. How can I be outraged by it if you go and ruin it by putting facts in it???

roslily · 03/01/2011 11:16

During discussions at a NYE party of a friend, I was chatting about some funny stories I'd read. They were both links from DM that I read here. As the evening went on it must have sounded like I read it. What must they have thought of me.

They were hilarious/moral discussion inducing stories though

treas · 03/01/2011 11:56

Aren't MNers already writing / providing the stories for the DM already.

They're quoting MN comments in their swine flu panic spreading article

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 03/01/2011 12:31

Brilliant plan!

Instead of running articles on alternate days about 'Why SAHMs are shit/Why WOHMs are shit', we could go with 'Why mums are brilliant, and should go with whatever choice works best for their families'. Fantastic!

Mind you, I fear sales would plummet... Sad

dementedma · 03/01/2011 12:48

Itsgrimupnorth - as opposed to your moronic stupidity and ignorance in issuing such a sweeping statement?
have you met every single DM reader then?

sue52 · 03/01/2011 12:51

dementedma are you coming out as a DM reader?

ccpccp · 03/01/2011 13:12

The Mumsnet obsession with the DM continues...

I dont understand how it is one of the most popular UK newspapers yet no-one here reads it? Its certainly linked to often enough. Very strange.

If it causes outrage amongst the faux-liberals then I'm all for it. Long may it rule! :)

(If you want to buy out and destroy a newspaper - you should target that tired champagne socialist rag - the Guardian)

harvalp · 03/01/2011 13:28

"I think it's the evidence of the bigotry, moronic stupidity and general ignorance that is constantly condoned and displayed by those who read it that gets people's goats.
"
You mean similiar to that frequently displayed on Mumsnet?

kelway · 03/01/2011 13:36

i like the daily mail..

SarahStrattonsBaubles · 03/01/2011 13:43

Me too I love the DM, it provides me with many happy hours of parent-baiting Xmas Grin

If we can't afford to buy it, maybe we could just get them a dictionary and some spare punctuation? They currently have Gary and Danielle Linaker living in the duckpond at Esher.

reading the DM is not necessarily the same as agreeing with their views though..

for me, its the best website for new and gossip in terms of navigating it, layout, and being able to leave sarky comments on the articles... (I love getting red arrowed!)

Magna · 03/01/2011 15:59

is it safe to come out yet (not as brave as SS)
