To be taking the Christmas tree down?

It's been up for weeks. It looks rubbish, most of the baubles are off due to the cats or DS pulling them off.

I just can't be arsed to wait the 12 days to take it down!

DH thinks I'm being a scrooge, bah humbug.

YABU. Far too early.

And I was being unreasonable for leaving my decorations up until June the other year. Xmas Grin

mummyosaurus · 01/01/2011 13:00

DS's birthday id 29th Dec so our tree was down 28th to make way for the party.

YANBU

PinkElephantsOnParade · 01/01/2011 13:01

YABU. Its unlucky to take it down before twelfth night.

If any calamities overtake the world it will be all your fault Grin

Nagoo · 01/01/2011 13:31

Min's down now!

looneytune · 01/01/2011 13:43

YANBU. Ours came down this morning around 10am and my lounge is now clean, furniture back where it should be and there is so much more space :)

reikizen · 01/01/2011 13:47

I usually wait until 1st Jan but mine came down yesterday (kids didn't bat an eye) and I rearranged the furniture in the room. Feels great to have all the deccos down, they were making me feel claustrophobic!

StartingAfresh · 01/01/2011 13:53

Oh Yuck at this thread. I'm pretty pissed off tbh that I'm not hearing carols. I had to keep the radio off from October because of all that nonsense way too early.

Now, in the middle of the fesitve period I hear zilch. We still have a few presents under the trea. The kids are having a whale. We eat mince pies every day and brandy sauce.

It's CHRISTMAS people!

Bully you for eating mince pies on the 1st December, you undisciplined, self-gratificational nutters. WAIT until Christmas and then do it properly!

PawPuss · 01/01/2011 13:56

Last Tuesday for us - everything down and cards in bin!

2old4thislark · 01/01/2011 14:01

Mines coming down later - may leave cards up a bit longer as they are on ribbon and hung up out of the way.

pigsinmud · 01/01/2011 14:04

I'm with startingafresh. I'm proudly playing my carols now. Exactly. We have mince pies and cream every day.

It really gets on my nerves when the carols stop on Boxing day. People get worked up about christmas far too early and then on the 26th they say it's all over. We're going to the panto tomorrow for some more festive feeling.

LadyLapsang · 01/01/2011 14:08

I'm with those who are still celebrating. The tree did not go up until Christmas Eve and will come down on Twelfth Night.

mangoandlime · 01/01/2011 14:31

If something sad has happened within your family, The end of Christmas is welcomed.

Just sayin'

StartingAfresh · 01/01/2011 14:34

Absolutely mango and I have sympathy with people who have other anniversaries and want to keep the two seperate, but still.......

FairhairedandFrustrated · 01/01/2011 14:38

Everything else is down, my garland, fairy lights, kitchen decs, crib etc... but the tree is still up!

Dh wouldn't agree with me taking it down - says it's bad luck!

I never put Christmas cards up - I read them and file them in the recycling bin. I never send cards, except to Dhs & my parents.

I feel Christmas cards clutter the place & are often very insincere with people only sending them because society dictates that they do.

Come the 6th my tree will be joining the rest of the clutter in the attic!

cherrypiew3 · 01/01/2011 14:48

wanted to take it down today dd wants to leave it up so have compromised on it coming down on monday.

undercovasanta · 01/01/2011 14:52

Taking ours down tomorrow. Like it to be down before school/work starts again, otherwise it feels like it is mocking me with its Xmas cheer IYSWIM Grin.

maltesers · 01/01/2011 14:53

Our tree is down today, as we are away tonight on a ski holiday and not back till 8th Jan.

PinkElephantsOnParade · 01/01/2011 16:38

You miserable lot, taking your tree down now!

Put it up later in December, closer to the time it is actually Christmas, then you will not be sick of it by NYD.

cece · 01/01/2011 16:56

Mine came down today. A bit late for me, usually take it down before New Year. It didn't go up till about 5 days before xmas day as well! Smile I like to limit the fun of xmas!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/01/2011 18:59

YANBU...everything is coming down today but then our tree has been up since the 28th November and is looking very sorry for itself. The build up to Christmas is always more exciting to me than the post xmas period.

perfumeditsawonderfullife · 01/01/2011 19:18

I threw mine in the bin yesterday, I hate starting a new year with a dead tree in the living room. Cards gone, decs down, place looks like it's had a makeover just by putting Christmas away Grin

Lovely and calm. Still eating Christmas cake though.

sofaqueenie · 01/01/2011 19:25

Well, it's down. Had a move around in the living room too so everything feels lovely and fresh again.

ethelina · 01/01/2011 19:29

We put our 10yr old 3ft fake tree up on 19th dec - several days too early for my taste. It came down today - several days too late. Only kept it this long cos Boy liked the lights.

goodmanners · 01/01/2011 19:30

i put mine up 12 days before and its come down this morning, i want to decorate and de clutter now! Crackers off tree stayed with us till our new year dinner this evening then they were pulled to signify THE END!

crazycatlady · 01/01/2011 19:38

YANBU. Ours goes up on 15th and comes down on 31st every year. I love Christmas, I love the run up to Christmas and doing lovely Christmassy things in December, but once Boxing Day has passed I like to have a couple of days of resting/pottering then get the house shiny and organised for the start of a new year.
