in thinking the only way to get any response on MN these days is to start a sensationalist thread on AIBU?

There, I have said it. I know I posted a thread late at night, I know it was in a board not as popular as AIBU or Chat but years ago you could post anywhere/anytime and get a response.

I am moaning. I am harking back to days gone by and I know I need to get over it and move on.

I shall miss the wisdom MN once held though.

AIBU in thinking AIBU was the point that MN jumped the shark?

it is ENORMOUS nowadays innit

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 22/12/2010 23:24

MN is too big and too - er - compartmentalised? People can't find anything! So they all end up in the same couple of places.

It's like a huge house with hundreds of rooms. You can either sit one or 2 people to a room, or you can all get together in a couple of rooms and have a big party.

MNHQ is guilty of trying to break down the conversations too much. iyswim.

CaptainNancy · 22/12/2010 23:24

YABU to use such a trite passe phrase as jump the shark...
YANBU re AIBU

nannynick · 22/12/2010 23:25

Sensationalist threads can be on various boards... not just AIBU.

Mumsnet in the bygone years was perhaps more busy, I have noticed it being quiet the past few days. Maybe just the time of year... maybe due to Google blacklisting Mumsnet due to a rogue ad. Whatever, it's just the way things are at the moment.

what shark?

RustyBear · 22/12/2010 23:26

Haven't seen you for ages....

JJ17 · 22/12/2010 23:26

I agree - no one talks to me unless IABU

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 22/12/2010 23:28

Come on then, what did you post and where?

singingcat · 22/12/2010 23:28

yabu people are talking to me about my tedious eating disorder on health!

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 23:29

well I posted in chat earlier and had some very lovely responses - so nerr.

singingcat · 22/12/2010 23:30

see, it must just be you Wink

BeribbonedGibbon · 22/12/2010 23:30

Jump the shark was tongue in cheek I admit, but the sentiment is true. When did MN stop being the place you could get sound, sensible and caring advice on all matters. Not just - 'he's a cunt, she's a bitch' etc?

OP posts:
BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 23:31

actually - what I usually do if I want to post - is scan active convo's - look for a topic that my thread could vaguely fit into and click on it - rather than trawl through the topics list.

I guess if there are a lot of AIBU on the active convo's it's quite possible for someone else to do the same and not have as much choice.

Sorry gibbon... sounded v terse, but dd was screaming from her bedroom as I posted! meant to put a wink after...

BeribbonedGibbon · 22/12/2010 23:33

I posted with worries on DD2 but that is for another thread Wink

This thread is about me being a moaning hag, who needs to get over the change in MN in recent years. Just wondering if IABU as I fear, or do others feel the same?

BitOfFun · 22/12/2010 23:33

I got a couple of sensible answers on a dreadfully dull thread about slow cookers tonight. But I had to brave the shame that is Chat to do it.

Are you sure it was all lovely in the past. Maybe it was, maybe Mumsnet wasn't as diverse as it is now. These days, people from all walks of live post on here (they don't all complete the census, so the census results may not be that reliable).

You can still get sound, sensible, caring advice on some boards.

BeribbonedGibbon · 22/12/2010 23:36

hello BoF my lovely

MJT - you made me giggle and make no mistake, your nan will have more wisdom than us lot will ever have Wink

This isn't new.
About 3 years ago I posted asking for information on truro and got no replies.
I reposted with the title 'bumsex in truro'.
Hey presto, lots of replies.
Be creative.

BeribbonedGibbon · 22/12/2010 23:38

nn - I wondered if I was being nostalgic.

I honestly think though, before AIBU and the popularity of MN you got answers/help/advice much easier than you do now.

OP posts:
BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/12/2010 23:38

lol bumsex in truro

fab

BeribbonedGibbon · 22/12/2010 23:41

But that is my point in this thread ATD, why should I? I don't mean that in a confrontational way you understand, just proves my point. Start a sensationalist thread or forget it.

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2010 23:44

Berbibboned - it's always been like that though - I've been here 6yrs. Active conversations has always moved quickly. People have (unless bored Xmas Grin) only clicked on thread which catch their eye. It's how newspaper headlines and book covers work as well - if it doesn't catch the eye - it probably won't sell as well.
