Now this is 100% none of my business, but just wondered what you guys thought.
Names, dates and places have been changed to protect the innocent (or the guilty!)
My rabbi's cousins mothers daughter had a baby and I'm not convinced she is being truthful about the father.
I am going to be 100% factual.

  1. The woman in question is somewhere between being a friend and an acquaintance to me.
  2. She had a 2 year relationship with a man, split for 6 months, and got back together. 5 weeks later, announced she was pregnant.
  3. Told everyone when she was 4-5 week pregnant.
  4. Told people HCP had her dates wrong and she thought that they thought she was further along than her dates.
  5. Told everyone HCP kept changing her due date, first was July then august, then back to July.
  6. Baby was born at 32 weeks
  7. Baby needed no help breathing, no wet lung etc.
  8. Baby weighed 8pm 2 at birth.
  9. At 6 and a half months corrected, baby was crawling and pulling to a stand.
Disclamer: I have no knowledge of premature babies.

So, was this baby 8 weeks early, or was she just telling us this so that we would assume baby's father is the man she is with now??

Hmm
BitOfFun · 22/12/2010 20:50

I have no idea, but assume that this would be the business of the woman and her partner to work out between yourselves, without reference to you or Mumsnet.

BitOfFun · 22/12/2010 20:51

themselves, sorry.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 22/12/2010 20:51

is your rabbi's cousin's mother's daughter not ALSO your rabbi's cousin?

conkertree · 22/12/2010 20:54

Is the rabbis cousins mothers daughter not just the rabbis cousin? Or the rabbis cousins sister?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/12/2010 20:54

rabbi's cousin's mother's daughter reminds me of Ken Dodd's dad's dog

amijee · 22/12/2010 20:54

There is no way a 32 week prem baby would weigh over 8 pounds.

My dd was born at 35 weeks, was 5.5 pounds but she did crawl at 6 months ( uncorrected!)

notremotelyintofootie · 22/12/2010 20:54

Could be that the baby was going to be huge... Did she have gestational diabetes?

My friends baby was v early and he has done things much earlier than expected so it may be possible... But......

To be honest I would suspect something but perhaps the 'dad' knows and is happy to be dad and they have decided to stick to the story to save face etc, if they are pretty religious and involved with the community this may be important to them and as long as the dad knows the truth I think that is all that matters...

conkertree · 22/12/2010 20:55

Oops crossed posts

Ladyofthehousespeaking · 22/12/2010 20:56

Could weigh that much if mother had diabetes?

MerryMarigold · 22/12/2010 20:56

Ha ha ha. Maybe it was the Holy Spirit (ok, I'm watching the Nativity on BBC1).

anothernewname09 · 22/12/2010 20:59

I know it's none of my business. And I have NEVER voiced these opinions to anybody.
They are good parents and very happy.
He may know, he may not.
No gestational diabetes.
Yes rabbis cousin would of sufficed. I was trying to be vague!

OP posts:
rubyslippers · 22/12/2010 21:00

Rabbi isn't a vague piece of terminology!

Georgimama · 22/12/2010 21:00

Is this a Biblical reference?

pickgo · 22/12/2010 21:01

'Now this is 100% none of my business'

Absolutely right.

Can't you think of something else to post on - that IS your business? Wink

BetsyBoop · 22/12/2010 21:02

8lb2oz for a 32weeker seems unbelievable odd

checking the charts the average 32weeker (50th percentile) is about 2kg (4.5lbs), the 99.6th percentile (which would cover 99.6% of 32week births) is about 2.7kg (5.9lbs)

(they were for a boy, girl weights would be less)

Saltatrix · 22/12/2010 21:04

Sounds suspect although I agree not your business but prepare for a shitstorm later in life keep your head low.

anothernewname09 · 22/12/2010 21:04

OMG there is no rabbi! I'm such an idiot! No biblical reference, it was ment to be like uncles friends dog reference.

I was confused when somebody said "maybe she is involved in church"!

(hangs head in shame at outing newnames stupidity on MN!)

OP posts:
tomhardyismydh · 22/12/2010 21:06

so that would be rabbis cousin then!!

its none of your buisness.

how do you know they did not sleep together and parent this child during 6month break.

or the intervention of a higher power?

MumNWLondon · 22/12/2010 21:08

why not just say "someone I know" than rabbi's cousin? you know the jewish community isn't that big and there are probably only around 200 community rabbis in the UK...

ivykaty44 · 22/12/2010 21:08

what is her name? this mother of large prem baby

MumNWLondon · 22/12/2010 21:10

Also was going to say, in the jewish community having a baby out of wedlock is still not really acceptible so if it was a rabbi's cousin, that alone (the baby out of wedlock) would be the talk of the town.

FWIW this story does happen - not from a paternity point of view but more from a shotgun wedding point of view - ie try and persuade people that baby was in fact conceived after wedding and it was premature.

Georgimama · 22/12/2010 21:11

Can we just ascertain whether there are any actual rabbis in this story? I think we deserve to be told.

mommmmyof2 · 22/12/2010 21:15

I would not think that a baby would weigh that much being premature, but on the other hand if the mother is lieing and she feels she has to go to these lengths to make out he is her dad then you have to ask why.
I no that is no use to the baby but if they are good parents i guesse that is all that matters and the baby is loved, as you don't no if she did get involved with someone else what they were like or even if she knows who he was.
If the whole thing is a lie though she will proberly living in fear of the truth getting out so she will end up being her own worse judge.
Let them live their lives and as they say the truth does come out in the end.
