Now this is 100% none of my business, but just wondered what you guys thought.
Names, dates and places have been changed to protect the innocent (or the guilty!)
My rabbi's cousins mothers daughter had a baby and I'm not convinced she is being truthful about the father.
I am going to be 100% factual.

  1. The woman in question is somewhere between being a friend and an acquaintance to me.
  2. She had a 2 year relationship with a man, split for 6 months, and got back together. 5 weeks later, announced she was pregnant.
  3. Told everyone when she was 4-5 week pregnant.
  4. Told people HCP had her dates wrong and she thought that they thought she was further along than her dates.
  5. Told everyone HCP kept changing her due date, first was July then august, then back to July.
  6. Baby was born at 32 weeks
  7. Baby needed no help breathing, no wet lung etc.
  8. Baby weighed 8pm 2 at birth.
  9. At 6 and a half months corrected, baby was crawling and pulling to a stand.
Disclamer: I have no knowledge of premature babies.

So, was this baby 8 weeks early, or was she just telling us this so that we would assume baby's father is the man she is with now??

No rabbi. No Jewish in this at all. Was just making that line up to stay vague. Kind of like friend of a friend type situation.

Sorry for confusion. Just trying not to out anybody.

theevildead2 · 22/12/2010 21:16

I think there are no real rabbis (in this story).. I think

And of course it isn't the OP's business, but IT IS interesting. And glad she brought it to our attention for this reason. Grin

I love that everyone is just accepting the 8 weeks early story too!

Georgimama · 22/12/2010 21:17

I am relieved to hear no rabbis were hurt in the telling of this story.

I would imagine that the baby actually is the father's and they got back together because she was up the duff, tbh.

Hassledge · 22/12/2010 21:19

But assuming the father isn't a complete idiot, he must also be in on the deception. He's either a top loyal bloke who's accepted a horrible mistake his partner made during the split, in which case he needs a halo, or well, I dunno. I'm going for saint.

Hassledge · 22/12/2010 21:20

When I say father, I mean alleged father. The man she is with now, the one who isn't a rabbi's cousin.

anothernewname09 · 22/12/2010 21:21

Georgia- no rabbis were hurt in the telling of this story!

Maybe being so close to Christmas everyone took the rabbi reference at face value!

32 weeks - DD was born at 32 weeks, no help breathing, no problems with lungs, crawling at 6 months corrected. However, was born at 4lb2.

The rest, who knows. Why do you even care?

natandchris10 · 22/12/2010 21:25

maybe you should take up cross-stich instead?

aslong as ur DH/DP isnt the real dad all is fine with the world and the rabbi can carry on doing rabbi things
let her deal with the fallout

Lynli · 22/12/2010 21:26

My DD was born at 33 weeks and weighed 7.5 lbs. Needed no assistance with breathing and had long fingernails.

It is possible your friend is telling the truth.

But if she isn't no good can come of proving that fact.

Georgimama · 22/12/2010 21:27

Is this the strangest thread on MN ever? It's got to be in the top ten.

coccyx · 22/12/2010 21:32

Come on shes a liar, not his baby,

anothernewname09 · 22/12/2010 21:45

I never said I thought she was defiantly being un truthful.

I just thought it had some suspicion around it, probably less, now that there have been posts about similar babies born at similar gestation.

OP posts:
coldtits · 22/12/2010 21:48

Oh COME ON!

My mother was alledgedly 8 weeks ealy. Strange then, that in 1954, she was born at home weighing 7lb and perfectly healthy.

I mean, she's clearly her father's daughter, but there is no WAY her mother was a virgin bride.

droves · 22/12/2010 22:05

How tall is the woman and her partner ?

If they are tall and sturdy then its perfectly possible for the baby to be prem at 32week and weigh 8lb 2.

If she`s very short then no , unless she had GD.

Mabey the dates dont add up , mabey the baby wasnt prem at all , mabey they were not together at that point but being fcuk-buddies, that decided to get back together when she found out she was pg? who knows ? who cares?

If theyre happy , leave them alone.

AnnOnimous · 22/12/2010 22:07

The whole rabbi thing made me think this was a psuedo Christmas story thread.

Either way, this is none of the OP's business, surely.

Lulumaam · 22/12/2010 22:08

the odds of an 8 week prem baby weighing above the average weight of a full term baby and having no breathing issues is small

how long was baby in SCBU?

I would bet the baby was not prem, but born at term and she's not being truthful

but meh....... the only people who really matter are the baby and the putative fatehr and the motehr

HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 22/12/2010 22:11

It doesn't matter.

If they are happy and have chosen to be a family then they are one.

LemonDifficult · 22/12/2010 22:11

Ooooooh fascinating.

Clearly the OP doesn't think it's her business, and isn't giving the details away. So be gone with the sanctimony.

FWIW, I think that sounds a bit fishy. 8lbs at 32 weeks?

NonnoMum · 22/12/2010 22:11

Ann I agree. I thought it was going to extend into DH (supposedly the baby's father) didn't use lastminute.com to book a room and so was born in a stable etc etc.

Think you need to leave well alone.

Happy Hannukah!

DreamTeamGirl · 22/12/2010 22:13

My cousin was born 9 weeks early (allegedly) just 6.5 months after the wedding back in 1971 weighing almost the same as me (at term) when I arrived 3 weeks later

He was OBVIOUSLY conceived prior to the wedding, but as it wasnt a shot gun wedding no idea why everyone pretends he was so premie ....

Saltatrix · 22/12/2010 22:14

It doesn't matter as long as the guy knows otherwise it is a ridiculous betrayal/Deceit.

Of course it is perfectly possible that they met up during the break considering they are together again it is very likely they would have had sex during their break.

MumNWLondon · 22/12/2010 22:14

I don't think 8lbs 2oz is possible at 32 weeks, if 99.6th percentile is around 6lbs.

But it must be her partner she's fooling. If her partner was in on it she could just have said they got back together earlier secretly.

The 1954 story not relevant because that was before accurate scans so the dates might not hhave been right (eg longer menstrual cycle/period in early pregnancy)

itsawonderfuldarleneconnorlife · 22/12/2010 22:27

You cant have an 8lb baby at 32 weeks even if they are both 6ft+ tall. Babies only fatten up near the end of pregnancy, it isnt gradual.

There are other ways to check this such as presence of vernix at birth and ratio of head circumference to weight/length.

ensure · 22/12/2010 22:38

Maybe the rabbi is the father!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 22/12/2010 22:41

I know someone who had a baby over 9.5lb when born around 35/36 weeks because she had undiagnosed gestational diabetes (was properly diagnosed in subsequent pregnancies and had to inject insulin). So 8.2lb not impossible at 32 weeks.
