trixie123 · 20/12/2010 14:55

so long as you don;t mind everyone thinking its after that x factor chap from few years ago!

loopylou6 · 20/12/2010 14:56

You are being.so unreasonable you need to be sectioned as I fear for your mental health.

jessiealbright · 20/12/2010 14:56

After the series of Persian emperors?

EminentlyImminent · 20/12/2010 14:58

Is there a female version? Daria? Darius does remind me of that Pop Idol/X Factor wannabe

I used to quite like the

I don't think you're being unreasonable but your daughter may do when she has to explain sigh for the zillionth time: yes, it's a boy's name, my mum just liked it too much.

Sparkle2010 · 20/12/2010 14:59

Yes it is a boys name, but if people can get away with naming their girls Ashley, Jordan, Hayden, Cameron etc then why not Darius.

I have no idea what x factor chap you mean. I never watch that rubbish.

TattyDevine · 20/12/2010 15:01

Dont do it.

VallhalaLalalalalalalalaaaaaa · 20/12/2010 15:04

Why not? It's you who will carry, bear and raise your daughter, not us, it's your choice.

I know a female Darius as it happens. A very, very beautiful, charming, blonde haired, blue eyed, elfin 10 year old daughter of a former neighbour, so the name has nice associations for me.

winnybella · 20/12/2010 15:05

it's my dad's name

yabu

Tortington · 20/12/2010 15:05

ridiculous

HeathcliffMoorland · 20/12/2010 15:05

I do quite like Doris, though.

Littlefish · 20/12/2010 15:13

Horrendous for a girl.

You (and your dd) will be laughed at, with good reason.

Firawla · 20/12/2010 15:22

Daria would be really nice, why not that instead?

jessiealbright · 20/12/2010 16:28

"Yes it is a boys name, but if people can get away with naming their girls Ashley, Jordan, Hayden, Cameron etc then why not Darius."

I don't think "everybody else is doing it" is powerful reasoning.

Your daughter may have to live with this the rest of her life. Deed polls are an expensive faff and ime, by the time I was old enough to get a deed poll change, I'd got so used to being called by my name, that no other name sounded right either.

In addition, plenty of MNers with doctorates apparently regularly experience disbelief on the phone that they are who they say they are. (Because apparently only men can be doctors Hmm).

How much worse is it going to be for a girl called Darius?

bigbitch90 · 20/12/2010 16:53

i think it sounds to boyish for a girl

dariannes quite nice though...

belgo · 20/12/2010 16:53

Darius is clearly a boy's name. Daria or Dara for a girl.

Lara2 · 20/12/2010 18:20

Nooooooo! Just don't go there! Would you call her David or Matthew?

ginhag · 20/12/2010 18:49

I'd go for Bob. It's short for Kate you know :)

HuwEdwards · 20/12/2010 18:51

unreasonable, no

stark raving mad, most certainly

TheYuleLogLady · 20/12/2010 18:52

call her john. a nice strong english name. can't go wrong with john.

DaydreamDolly · 20/12/2010 18:54

Some names are suited to both girls and boys.

Darius is most certainly not one of them..
