It's my birthday tomo. Wanted to pop to shops alone (luxury!)to buy a new dress to wear for my meal out tonight.
But as I'm breastfeeding, I decided early this morning to forgoe the dress, incase I got stuck.
Have now decided to cancel meal as roads impassable
I'm hearing on news about gridlock all over London, car parks at bluewater, lakeside etc all jammed no one is going anywhere!
I feel smug for being home, warm, safe with my children!!!!

I was due to go to a wedding today, but looked at the forcasts and decided not to go with my young dd and dh. Did not want to be stuck on the road with a young child, but i feel really sorry for those who are stuck and hope that they get home safely and soon. BTW my friends husband is serving in the Army and she is waiting for him to come home for Christmas today, lets hope he makes it, silly man he should not have gone out, he should have read the forcasts Hmm

claig · 18/12/2010 16:22

Happy birthday MayDayChild for tomorrow and Merry Christmas. You are lucky to have changed your mind about not going out. You didn't phrase it well, but you don't deserve all of the outrage.

Limara · 18/12/2010 16:28

I don't think MayDayChild thought it through Can we lay off her please? How can you surmise she is nasty nasty nasty by this thread? For goodness sake.

Megletitsnow · 18/12/2010 16:28

Ill thought out post. Some people have no choice to go out in this weather or they were already en-route.

I'm lucky that we can do everything on foot with a monster pushchair but not everyone is so lucky.

RockinRobinBird · 18/12/2010 16:30

We had two big family parties this weekend, both a year in the planning. I've been ill for four weeks and it was going to be my first outing since. We didn't go. I'm not smug, I'm pissed off and vastly disappointed. But also thankful that much as I am pissed off, I am also damned lucky that I had the option of staying at home unlike others who had to work etc. Smuggery is not an attractive trait, it will bite you on the arse one day.

nightmarebeforechristmas · 18/12/2010 16:36

op made a mistake

come on folks it is nearly Christmas

NotEnoughTime · 18/12/2010 16:36

It is my sons birthday tomorrow too. He will be nine. Iam gutted that Iam not able to go to the shops and get him a birthday cake and food as we were going to have a little birthday tea for him. We are also meant to be going to the panto tomorrow (his birthday present) but it now looks very unlikely that we will be able to get there (so thats £100 down the drain Xmas Sad). He has hardly any birthday cards to open as there was no post delivered here today and stuff that I had ordered (weeks ago) from amazon will not be delivered now due to the weather.

I explained all of the above to him and he said "Never mind Mum, there are a lot of people worse off than me who are stuck inside with no food or heating".

Iam not going to pass judgement on you (I dont know how old you are going to be tomorrow but like I said he is going to be nine), I just wanted to say how PROUD Iam of him for being so kind and caring towards others.

OnthefirsdayofMrsDeVere · 18/12/2010 16:39

Oooops OP

I am feeling quite smug that I havent managed to piss off a load of MNers with an illjudged thread.

I am sure you didnt mean it to sound quite as horrible as it did though.

The snow where I lived wasnt really forcast. Well it was but it wasnt according to what forecast you looked at. One was saying loads of snow, one was saying bright with a dusting of snow etc.

I was totally confused.

I am now on the verge of hysteria because I havent got OH's and DS1's presents yet and am worrying about Christmas dinner.

So I will get out tommorow even if it means wearing my parka and furry hat and dragging my shopping trolley (I will of course wear dark glasses so as not to be recognised)

3littlefrogs · 18/12/2010 16:39

What a lovely boy. You are right to be proud of him.

Goblinchild · 18/12/2010 16:39

OTFDMDV I have a trolly too, we will stick our toungues out at the drivers sitting on the road as we trundle past with our trollies. Mine is bright pink with flowers.

Goblinchild · 18/12/2010 16:50

I'd rather talk about happy stuff. The elderly lady down the road came up with a card and a bag of chocolate coins for DS this morning.
In January, he'd just come back from a trip to the shops when he met said grumpy old bat sliding and slipping up to town because she needed some shopping.
She was rude and snappy, but having Asperger's he didn't get the tone. So he asked her what she was doing, she snarled at him and he told her she was too old and fragile to be out and he'd do her shopping. She shouted at him, he called her stupid.
She gave him her list and went home, he dumped my shopping on our doorstep and turned round with the sledge and trudged back the mile or so to the shops.
They are now mates and nod at each other when passing. Grin

traceybath · 18/12/2010 16:50

Thanks everyone.

He has has his moments Xmas Grin but generally he is a very kind and loving boy so I do count my blessings.

We will make the best of tomorrow. I have got cornflakes and chocolate so we will make it into a massive rice krispie birthday cake! I know I have got a candle somewhere....

Apparently our local pizza firm is still delivering so we will have pizza for the birthday tea and we have got lots of family DVDs so Im sure we will all still have a lovely time.

stropicana · 18/12/2010 17:01

YABU. The snow here last night came down very heavily all of a sudden. We were stranded, luckily no DCs involved.

bramblebooks · 18/12/2010 17:05

Ill judged. My elderly parents are stuck due to sudden large dump of snow. They are miles from home and dad has a medical condition. They are trying to make it to a nearby hotel.

Altaira · 18/12/2010 17:05

OP probably did not mean to be so thoughtless. Wouldn't be the first to not think a post through.

Am not completely surprised by the responses, but the tone of lots of them are spiteful and out of proportion to the OP.

OP forget about this and have a Happy Birthday Smile

nightmarebeforechristmas · 18/12/2010 17:10

Goblinchild that is lovely
