to get annoyed by leg jigglers?

I was in a pub recently and there was a bloke in my line of vision who was persistently jiggling one leg up and down. Even though he was on the other side of the pub, he was ruining my lunch. (Was very tempted to go over and bash him).

Why do some blokes (it's usually young laddish blokes for some obscure reason) do this? You know, where they kind of balance their leg on one toe and jiggle furiously...

yanbu. why do they do it and why is it so annoying?

thisisyesterday · 14/12/2010 19:25

yes! it's irritating

dp does it and i regularly have to leap up and slap his leg and go ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH at him

thisisyesterday · 14/12/2010 19:26

actually i think they do it because they just CAN'T keep still

ds1 is similar, and the book "raising your spirited child" has a big chapter about children who really struggle to actually stop moving about. I think DP is the same and he has just controlled it enough that he can get away with "just" leg jiggling

he also paces a lot, esp when on the phone

I had a boyfriend many many years ago who used to leg jiggle. I wouldn't say it was the ONLY reason I split up from him, but....

I have a friend (female) who does this. It's a side effect of her medication.

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 14/12/2010 19:30

OK fair enough if medically induced plentyof.

I do it (or twiddle my hair, tap my feet).

I have ants in my pants.

NorthernLurker · 14/12/2010 19:33

I'm a fidgeter/jiggler. It's just how I am. Thanks so much for making me feel really crap about it though. How lovely to know people want to 'bash me' - done my confidence the world of good. Hmm

mumbar · 14/12/2010 19:33

Ha meg Was sat here thinking it is annoying but not really fair for me to get annoyed when I do it too. And as I read your post I also realsed I was twiddling my hair. Blush

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 14/12/2010 19:36

I don't mind a bit of fidgetting and hair twiddling. It's just the persistent leg going up and down thing that gets me.

I jiggle my legs, mainly because medication I am on makes them very achy and restless. It's pretty annoying for me, and unfortunate if it disturbs others (I can see how it might) but short of never going out, there's not much I can do.

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 14/12/2010 19:38

Oh so thinking of physical violence was possibly overreacting - sorry Northernlurker

ItsKurriiiistmas · 14/12/2010 19:40

Ah -just seen it's OK if medical Grin - but how would I let you know so you don't bash me (A sign round my neck maybe?)

ItsKurriiiistmas · 14/12/2010 19:41

Not only am I a leg jiggler - I am the world's slowest typer and constantly x-post.Grin

controlfreakyhohohohohohoho · 14/12/2010 19:42

hmm. HATE the leg jiggling thing but not as much as I LOATHE men who jangle their keys around in their trouser pocket the whole time whilst chatting... AAAAAGH.

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 14/12/2010 19:42

ItsKurri Sorry had never realised that there were people out there who were medical jigglers. It was meant to be a bit of a semi-light hearted rant, but obviously I realise that it's not always a voluntary action. Apologies for any offence.

ItsKurriiiistmas · 14/12/2010 19:44

Don't worry I'm not offended - it's a legitimate thing to be irritated by as it's very distracting. - I was joking about the sign!

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 14/12/2010 19:48

NorthernLurker I am a helpless fidgeter too (including leg jiggling which, incidentally, is much more annoying to do than it is to watch, haters).

I take comfort in the fact that fidgeting is apparently helpful in keeping one's weight down Grin

MardyQuickFollowThatStar · 14/12/2010 19:49

"leg jiggling which, incidentally, is much more annoying to do than it is to watch, haters"

That would be going some... Xmas Wink

When your legs ache from constant, unstoppable jiggling, it does tend to put a damper on the day.
