We shall get by on under 300 quid, hopefully

I can see that shopping can be good therapy; but a bit costly if done on plastic

£42 on presents for both family

£50 on other extras like extra food/some wine

Can't afford Christmas this year Sad

Chil1234 · 14/12/2010 14:45

I'm spending LOADSAMONEY!!!!! Mostly on myself :) Well, it's wasted on other people.

monkeyflippers · 14/12/2010 14:50

I've spent more then usual!!! and so can't afford it. Went to buy stamps for all the Christmas cards and that alone was £20!

Have spent about 85 (not including all the £2 stocking fillers) on each child. Have spent about 120 on other people all together. We don't normally get each other a present as can't afford it but have this year.

As for food and things . . . not a clue!

GabbyLoggon · 14/12/2010 15:01

The wife gives me a list and I struggle to find the stuff...typical male.

Probably around the £500 mark for us Xmas Sad!

We have a large family: 4 children between us, 1 grand-daughter, 2 dil, 5 nephews and nieces, my parent, dh's parents and we always buy for my sister. We don't get each other anything..... if we can't afford it then we're fed up with shopping!!!

Thank god for Boots 3 of 2 is all I can say.

monkeyflippers · 14/12/2010 16:10

harassedinhertinselpants - do it online?

tanmu82 · 14/12/2010 16:18

about £450 this year - no plastic allowed in this house so can only be what we can afford tp pay cash for......

luckily, apart from the wine (asda 3 for 10 x 9 bottles), champers, ham and some baked goodies, we don't have to do the food this year.....all of the budget is on gifts for kids and family (we have a large one so that just children and our parents!)

theevildead2 · 14/12/2010 16:22

funny year. SIL normally does a lovely xmas dinner.. This year its just on our own and I'm fat and pregnant so will be ready made bits for just me and DH.. SO not much on dinner. Spent about 300 on gifts for him and family.

TheLimeFairy · 14/12/2010 16:41

About £120 on 4DCs pressies (they are all very little still so it is easy to spend less!) Xmas Wink.

About £60 on other people's gifts (DH and I don't buy for each other).

And £50 on food etc (we are having a family gathering and all contributing so I don't actully have to do the shopping Xmas Grin.

I had wrapping paper and crackers and the tree etc from last year so that's it really.

about a thousand, maybe a bit more.

Although on MN you're supposed to say you do it for threepence and a bit of string Wink

elephantpoo · 14/12/2010 17:21

50 each for me and DH to join family secret santa (big family)
150 each on kids
150 food
100 family
150 on other pressies and tree, decorations, etc.
Crikey......that's a lot!
Must do better next year :)

PolkaDotRudolf · 14/12/2010 17:21

also a thousand maybe more in this house hec ... quite a lot of that will be in M&S as will get all food there and have bought quite a lot of gifts there too. Might recoup some as most long distance relis know I like M&S and will send me giftcards :)
I love Christmas!

twirlymum · 14/12/2010 17:21

About £500, including food.

No plastic here either. I was lucky enough to get a Christmas bonus, from my part time job, so it's mostly been that Xmas Smile

porcamiseria · 14/12/2010 17:25

too much, likely 400 sadly

to many bloody presents to reciprocate

Lovesdogsandcats · 14/12/2010 17:25

Those who spend a hundred or so, do none of you buy big expensive stuff for your older kids? Like tv, camera, laptop, ps3, xbox 360?
Most kids seem to have this gear and I would assume they get it for Christmas, or birthday, in which case the price spent in total at this time of year is surely going to be more than a hundred or so?

PolkaDotRudolf · 14/12/2010 17:29

Are people including food? I did in my total!

harassedinhertinselpants · 14/12/2010 17:29

monkeyflippers we weren't organised enough time-wise or money-wise this year!! Had to wait for dh to get some cheques in (self employed roofer), and the dd got chicken pox, so it's all been a bit of a rush. Just a couple left to get now though, so I'm happy.

mumofloads · 14/12/2010 17:30

I can't say for fear of being flamed but it is loads Blush

In my defence I have 6 dc to buy for and we don't get into any debt.

PolkaDotRudolf · 14/12/2010 17:30

Go on mumofloads I want someone to spend more than me!

pastaplease · 14/12/2010 17:31

Is this just on pressies? I've totted that up to be roughly £700(DP, DD, DSS, 4 nephews, Parents, Sister, BIL x 2, SIL, MIL, PIL and little things for a couple of DD's friends.

Food will probably be around £300, I suppose.

So, food and pressies will be about £1,000.

pastaplease · 14/12/2010 17:32

Oh, I forgot about cards. With postage, around £50.

pastaplease · 14/12/2010 17:34

Actually, sorry I'm still working it out, it's actually a fair bit more than £1,000 but I don't want to count anymore. Xmas Blush

mumofloads · 14/12/2010 17:39

Ok polka but you had better stick up for me.
It's around £3000 I don't actually keep a total but a quick add up in my head comes to about that.
I love Christmas my dc aren't spoilt and we can afford it so why not.
