We shall get by on under 300 quid, hopefully

I can see that shopping can be good therapy; but a bit costly if done on plastic

Presents £20 in total.

Food / drink I don't know - few hundred.

PolkaDotRudolf · 14/12/2010 19:20

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I have just made a spreadsheet (bad idea perhaps?) and my total is more like £2000 not £1000 as previously stated Blush.

None on credit though and I did spend £100 on a new artifical tree this year (have got real ones previously) which I have included in the total. I also lost the decotations and spent another £100 (easily) replacing them so have included this too.

SlightlyJaded · 14/12/2010 19:24

about £1000 here too. Although that doesn't count whatever DH buys me - sometimes he is sensible and other years is randomly extravagent so could be anything from £100 to £6-700 on top of that Hmm

Saying out loud feels a bit vulgar actually. I hadn't realised it was so much.

QuizteamBleakley · 14/12/2010 19:25

Xmas Blush about £2000 but I go all out every Christmas and this is the final splurge, possibly ever, as PFB due yesterday so I am sure we will be on a much tighter budget next year. I have wrapped about 100 gifts in total and ribboned & tagged each one individually. We have four lots of family (DP's Mum & partner & siblings, my parents & siblings, DP's Dad & partner and my biological parents & half-siblings) so I'm v excited about not having to a Vicar of Dibley-esque round of 4 x Xmas lunches this year!

DoNotWantAnotherMincePie · 14/12/2010 19:25

Too much .... (but no plastic involved)

£800 on the 2 kids

£350 (ish) on Boyfriend and him the same on me

£100 on my parents

£100 on inlaws

£200 on friends kids and niece/nephew

No food needed

£50 on decorations

hmmm never added that up before. I was also lucky enough to be involved in the Secret Santa on MN ...so that adds a few more £'s

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 14/12/2010 19:32

Less than 250 quid in total for all the presents, all the food and a new set of lights for the tree. I spent just under 100 quid on each DC, and I made presents for my mum and sister. Got MIL's present with a voucher I got as a gift. Christmas dinner is costing us about a tenner in total to feed 4 of us. Not including wine. The wine doubles that. What can I say. Priorities...
I am being really miserly this year, though. I'd normally spend double that, but DH's work situation is looking a bit shit, so I don't want to get to Jan and think 'oh dear I shouldn't have spent that much'.

Blackletterday · 14/12/2010 19:33

Just had a tot up and probably about £850, still need to get stocking fillers and a few bits for other people. Quite shocked at that really, doesn't actually feel like I have got the kids that much Confused.

We have gone more expensive in the food department this year though. We usually have lamb or beef, but decided on goose this time.

bensonbutnohedges · 14/12/2010 19:41

As little as possible Grin

onceamai · 14/12/2010 21:44

100 each on the DC, 80 on my parents, 40 on MIL, 40 on DH, 80 on cards and postage, 80 on vouchers for various children, 100 on drinks at office do, extra 200 on food, 25 on flowers - all up probably about 800ish. Our house, 2 x DC, me and DH and MIL.

onceamai · 14/12/2010 22:07

Just remembered - crackers, napkins, festive paper table cloth, wine, annual theatre trip and a few little extras. I actually thought we were quite careful. Have read some of thread and as for big things like wii's and Xboxes, these have been bought at Christmas but have involved gp's contributing too. Have the added dimension of DS and Jesus sharing a birthday and this isn't included in the Xmas spend!!

yep, I reckon it is £1k plus here as well - altho muddied by DS1 birthday which was last Sat. Some on credit card, but only in the certain knowledge of DHs dividend coming through in Jan. And yes, I know it is a lot and that I am lucky. But the present list extends to at least 20 kids once you add in 8 godchildren etc etc and I started accumulating presents in June...

merrycompo · 14/12/2010 22:23

£80 on cards and postage? I guess I have too few friends
and I get my dad a mug and my mum a DVD
they'd be horrified to have £80 spent on them
but you cut your cloth etc

sleighBELLasringing · 14/12/2010 22:25

About a £1000 here too.

sleighBELLasringing · 14/12/2010 22:25

But I have to say that DS1's guitar is £400 on it's own.

sue52 · 14/12/2010 22:28

About £1500 including presents, food and booze. We will have 10 for lunch and my family can eat (and drink).

£120 on gifts for 2dcs
£10 for dp (we agreed to small gifts this year)
£6 for mum (ditto)
probably £40 for other family members
It'll be just dp and I and dd (ds will be with ex's family this year) so we won't be cooking anything special, probably just a duck and gammon etc-about £40
£30 Christmas tree

all converted from euros so approximate

about £250 then

PartialToACupOfMilo · 14/12/2010 22:43

300 so far and still need to buy for my mum, dad, sister & her husband and brother. Dh is getting his half of the family. Not spending much if anything on food and drink as going to my mum's with dd - dh is working Sad. The main cost has been dd - she's not having anything huge but it just seems to have mounted up. Especially considering that I started off saying she's too young to realise it's Christmas (12 months) and her car seat will be her pressie Blush

Thingiebob · 14/12/2010 22:43

Presents for 8 people about £150
Food and drink for 7 people on xmas day then 12 on
boxing day plus nibbles, breakfast and general household items will prob come to £250, maybe a bit more.
£50 spent on a tree this year and about 20 on cards, wrapping paper and decs.

I spread the food costs over a few months and the family tend to contribute to food costs. We don't spend a fortune on pressies. This year the only children are 4 and 11 months old.

The food is more this year as we have a lot of family visiting. We are not massive drinkers but there wil
be some nice wine and I'm splashing out on meat from Waitrose and some Baileys.

taffetazatyousantaclaus · 14/12/2010 22:45

Presents for everyone ( 30 people )- around £500
Cards and stamps, wrap, ribbons - around £100
Food and drink - around £400
Extra decorations/lights/table stuff - around £100

So just over £1k here too. The food and drink includes a Christmas party for 30 people this weekend, lunch for 8 on Christmas Day and lunch for 9 on the 27th.

Lynli · 14/12/2010 23:11

£2000 lots of children in the family, lots of money on food as family will stay all week.

BonniePrinceBilly · 14/12/2010 23:14

tuppence ha'penny and some driftwood and string.

Undutchable · 14/12/2010 23:32

About ?1000 I think. Worked out I was buying presents for 30 people! (big family etc). Mum and dad are coming over for Christmas day and bringing the turkey etc but we've bought wine, spirits, chocolate, twiglets... Christmas cards cost a bomb but that's because I send so many 'home' to England.

I don't spend much on the DSs but I know that will change as they get older, Compared to many I know we are positively restrained though. DH and I usually buy each other something small.

Has to be better than last year, which I spent in hospital, in isolation with a 5 month old DS2. No turkey dinner, no carols, no family. 'twas very miserable! So I know that money spent etc just ain't important.

FrozenChocolate · 15/12/2010 00:02

Well under £200. 2 kids, mum, friend and her 2 kids.
