We shall get by on under 300 quid, hopefully

I can see that shopping can be good therapy; but a bit costly if done on plastic

We put money away every month.
Well not me, DH. He is the sensible one.

We only buy for Children in the family in the main, and this year we are not hosting Christmas Day dinner (Praise be! Has been 6 years).

Still will be about £500.

Not counting Christmas treats to see Santa/go to theatre & meal.

Thank God for my thrifty DH.

Lizzylou · 14/12/2010 17:40

Mumofloads, don't be daft, what you spend is up to you.

I know that when my DC are older the presents will get more expensive.

Not looking forward to that.

theywillgrowup · 14/12/2010 17:43

food will come out approx £150 ish

3 dcs about £600 (together)

other gifts only mum,dad sister,friend £100

so would say £approx 900 all cash

raspberryberetbaby · 14/12/2010 17:45

I have spent far too much Blush

Have so many other people to buy for its hard to not go over the budget .

PolkaDotRudolf · 14/12/2010 17:45

mumofloads exactly if you can afford it then why not! I only have 1 DC and £1k is probably a conservative estimate Wink!!!
Also does not include all the rubbish fabulous things DH will have bought me!

mamatomany · 14/12/2010 17:47

I got to a horrible figure and stopped adding up, DH probably thinks it's about £50

Lizzylou · 14/12/2010 17:49

To be honest, I haven't factored in Christmas booze and treats.

But still, it's always more than you think eh? And we will be feasting on leftovers and drinking Christmas wine into the New Year so Hey ho!

becaroodolf · 14/12/2010 17:50

About £800 this year - we have lots of dc in the family to buy for but I have gone a bit mad this year Blush ds1 is now 7 so plastic stuff doesnt really cut it anymore!! Smile

I know I spend much more now all the dc in the family are older. Dnephews are mad about star wars lego - is it just me or is it REALLY expensive?? When they were all smaller it was inexpensive pre school stuff/books/bath toys etc. Am thinking that pretty soon ds1 might start asking for money for b days and xmas - which is fine with me -he likes going on trips/days out rather than parties/presents.

Won't be spending much on food though...just the 4 of us this year.

theywillgrowup · 14/12/2010 17:51

must admit when i add it in my head sounds so much and is probably more but i shop through the year and am a real bargain hunter, also being single parent on benefit i find it easier to put money away each week,do the same for birthdays

verytellytubby · 14/12/2010 17:54

About a thousand. Maybe a bit more.

None of it on credit card. Having a lovely Christmas after being so skint last year. Plus we are doing Christmas day at ours so lots of food and drink to buy.

becaroodolf · 14/12/2010 17:55

mumofloads If you can afford it I dont see what the problem is?

We have also not gone into debt for xmas but I do feel I have spent a bit too much this year Blush

Am planning to open an xmas savings account in the new year THEN I can spend even more next year and not feel bad about it!!!!! Grin Hurrah!

waitwhat · 14/12/2010 17:55

About £1500 all together. Both sides of the family are huge. No plastic here either i refuse to get into debt over Christmas, I save up all year in a Birthday/Christmas account so i know exactly how much i can spend

becaroodolf · 14/12/2010 17:57

Trouble with me is...I start buying in August!!! Got some great bargains from amazon and NEXT in the sales so lots of the stuff my dc have got is small stocking filler stuff.

Dh will have a fit when we get it all down from the loft on xmas eve Grin

bupcakesandcunting · 14/12/2010 17:57

I've stolen most of mine.

FestiveOrganisoid · 14/12/2010 18:01

Normally manage to do it for £300 or less but this year have nearly doubled that Blush

Both dc have a more expensive main pressie than normal, and I've spent more on their stockings than I usually would...

The total includes all presents(for 20 people) and stocking stuff for my 2, cards, wrapping paper and tags, new pjs (for 5 people) and a dvd for xmas eve, half case of wine, few snacky bits. Also a christmas jumper as that is the theme for our NYE celebrations this year. And a big marble run as a family present for us that I saw on amazon when I was buying other stuff and needed Blush. Lucky for me my parents are buying all the food for xmas day so I only need to contribute the snacky stuff and some wine.

waitwhat · 14/12/2010 18:01

bupcakesandcunting
Clever woman saving all those penny'sXmas Grin

lal123 · 14/12/2010 18:02

about £300 for kids pressies, £100 for DP, £60 each for our Mums, £30 each for 6 nieces/nephews, probably about £100 for food - £800 so far.... None on credit card

mamasmissionimpossible · 14/12/2010 18:04

I haven't finished yet, but I think about £300-400. I have spent more on the dc's than I thought I would. I just keep spotting bargains!

I have been saving up for Christmas. I expect dh will be mad at me for overspending and spoiling the dc's

PinkIceQueen · 14/12/2010 18:04

Too much! But managed to "purchase" lots of gifts with my Tesco vouchers this year Grin

theywillgrowup · 14/12/2010 18:05

impressed with the debt free christmas most will enjoy

Lizzylou · 14/12/2010 18:07

Pinkicequeen, me too!
And went to Sainsbury's half price toy sale.

jugglingjo · 14/12/2010 18:56

I'm sure it will be a small fortune in the end, mainly for children, ours and family !

And I haven't even started getting things yet !

Luckily break up from school on Friday, so I guess I'm leaving it pretty much till then. Everything's been so busy with work.

Children helping more this year, getting and wrapping things, slightly randomly, for others in the family !

Not sure how much this will help, but I guess it's pushing me into the Christmas spirit.

Will have to take them with me to shops next week Shock

I'd hope not to spend more than a few hundred in total. Sorry, I can't be more accurate, I'm a rather haphazard person !

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/12/2010 19:01

£2000 a least.

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 14/12/2010 19:01

at Xmas Blush

BusyMisstletoeIzzy · 14/12/2010 19:14

I've just worked out I've spent about £260 on presents for DH and family, plus £100 or so worth of Boots points. I've also ordered £130 worth of food for Christmas day and a few days beforehand. We'll be having a 2nd Christmas dinner on the 27th as well, with my family (DH's parents here on Xmas day), so that'll be more expense. Both sets of parents have offered to provide some food/reimburse for some of the cost though.
