Hey I recently got an email like this on facebook:

Women are supoosed to cover up because you are sexual objects whether u like it or not ... but i wouldnt expect you toi understand that being from a cheap society that treats sex like a cup of tea! If little girls cover up thats because they respect Allah. The reason why girls can marry younger than boys is because they mature faster and some have periods as young as 9. why do you think its always english girls that get raped???? because u dont cover up you morons!!!! U hardly ever hear of an asian or black girl being raped its always your lot that get it because you are always drunk and wearing nothing like prostitutes!... the whole world knows that english girls have no respect for themselves so no on else respects them.

And who says we need feminism, when enlightened young men like this are our future.

Truckulent · 13/12/2010 14:50

Well I'm home with my sick DC.

I'm all for it, I don't think a lot of men or women are yet though.

My proposals for Menism:

  1. Men must be aware that all women, and most other men, will evaluate their appearance at all times. Men have a responsibility to look 'attractive' to others, even if this involves additional expense and physical pain.
  1. Men must accept that being groped by women, approached for sex by strangers and having their sexiness rated by groups of women are natural consequences of being 'attractive' (see [1]) and thus part of their responsibility to society.
  1. Men must get used to carrying heavy bags of stuff at all times.
  1. No matter how important the man's Work is, he must always remember to pick up the groceries, make doctors' appointments, buy and send birthday gifts, schedule children's activities and have his appearance embellished during the course of a working day.
  1. Men who fail to be pleasant, agreeable and soothing at all times will be roundly criticised to their faces and behind their backs.
  1. Men cannot be expected to understand technical things, and must be grateful for patronising explanations.
  1. Men will not be given pay rises or promotions unless they have outperformed their female peers.
  1. Men must notice when domestic tasks need doing, and perform them efficiently. Failure to do so merits public criticism.
  1. In adddition to their Work, domestic and pleasing duties, men must be Caring and offer solace to anyone who requires it.
  1. Men must not complain of their lot. To do so is Nagging, in direct contravention of their role in life.

Feminism is difficult to pin down. I always found Germaine Greer interesting...

Her marriage was a laugh, in her words.

"At the reception my husband said I have had all of the women here" He had, it was over in 3 weeks

PosieParksHerSleigh · 13/12/2010 15:04

Oh here we go with the Champion of Islam crap. I was going to delete all reference to religion, but I thought we were all grown ups.....

You are not the only minority group represented on Mumsnet Riven get over yourself.

PosieParksHerSleigh · 13/12/2010 15:05

TBH, I was more alarmed by his views that if a woman's pissed she's fair game and at fault when/if raped......but you were too busy with your faux offence to even notice.

GraceAwayInAManger · 13/12/2010 15:06

I like sprogger's definition of feminism:

"shooting the shit with other women who've noticed the same sort of things I've been noticing"

PosieParksHerSleigh · 13/12/2010 15:07

Good.

Truckulent · 13/12/2010 15:09

Oh right is that feminism in action then?

sethstarkaddersmum · 13/12/2010 16:06

that's right, feminists must never disagree about anything; any disagreements due to differences in religion, life experience etc will be blamed on us being feminists and held to bring it into disrepute.

oh hang on, if we never disagree we will be accused of being like a cult, not tolerating dissent, etc etc.

ho hum.

PosieParksHerSleigh · 13/12/2010 16:09

Sorry, fellow feminists but as an atheist and feminist I cannot reconcile my views about patriarchal religions.

But thanks SSM, I had missed that!!
