I think it's getting totally out of hand. I think that HE should be accesable but that's what the students loan company is for-no? i have no money; I have a student loan. When I start to earn enough again I shall continue to pay it back.
I have no problem with demos but attacking a car etc is not helping the cause.

As Raleigh said on the apprentice "it was shameful"

Can't say I like the idea and possibly other areas should be cut to put funding to HE - but at the end the govt makes a decision.

What's not clear yet is how much each Uni will charge - the 9k is the limit not the actual fees charged.

NordicPrincess · 10/12/2010 10:15

what university do you think is goign to say hmm, im allowed to charge 9k but il be nice and only charge 3 or 6?

Did that happen when they put fees up last time??

Of course not, especially not when budget is cut at 80%

get real

Yeah lets tear shit up Hmm are you deluded aswell.

how did they disrespect - well vandalising churchills statue and pissing on it, thats only one thing if you want to know about the rest then read about it yourselves

and i dont support anyone in government so maybe you shouldnt make assumptions

(oh quick i have run out of milk i better get a metal bar out and smash the neighbours car up, just to make me feel better)

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 10/12/2010 10:18

Many may go up to £9k - would not be surprised at all - maybe some will charge £6k - for some courses - maybe more business and private enterprise will support he better Unis. Many of the 'better' Unis are saying it will improve standards.

Igglystuffedfullofturkey · 10/12/2010 10:18

Grin Riven they probably would be sitting there, while the clever men went out and voted as what could silly women know?!

I went to one of the first universities to admit women and there used to be newspaper articles from the time worrying about how would their ickle little brains cope with learning?

ChickensHaveNoMercyForTurkeys · 10/12/2010 10:19

I very much doubt that the majority of the troublemakers were students. The images of young men with their faces covered smashing the world up seemed gleeful. They were just arsehole wankers who generally have to go to football matches to try and get their dose of violence. This just provided a convenient excuse. I hope that it does change things, actually. I hope that the police look more carefully at how they handle these situations, because the kettling seems anatgonistic to me.

NerdyFace · 10/12/2010 10:23

TiredMum if that's all you took from my post you need to re-read it.

How much of the things I mentioned were in the paper hmm?

When have you heard about all peaceful sit down protests?

What about the sleeping protests in Uni's?
I have some friends doing that at the local uni who haven't left the main entrance of the uni for 2 weeks! Where is their paper coverage?

The ONLY fucking reason we are having this arguement right now, is because students actually did something we have a long tradition of in this Country, the Luddites, Rebbeca Riots, Peasants Revolt.

They were violent, trashed building, defaced monuments and I am behind them EVERY single step of the way.

NordicPrincess · 10/12/2010 10:24

so they vandalised a statue- how is that more shocking than what the coalition are doing? I think youl find that pissing on Churchill was two fingers up at the joke that the Tories and libdems are- If you are actually concerned about a piece of bronze(?) you have whollly missed the point!!

Poogles · 10/12/2010 10:25

Nordicprincess - I find it disrespectful when people vandalise the cenataph because of what it stands for.

What gives people the right to destroy property and terrorise others.

I also can't believe people think that they were justified in usign violence to get publicilty.

Lots has been achieved by peaceful protest - I mentioned Ghandi in my previous post. How many people have heard of Luther King (peaceful) but would struggle to tell you who Malcolm X was (violence) and they fought for the same thing with different means.

I would prefer for my DC's to go to university and not come out in debt but do I ask the country to pay for this at the expense of the NHS, disabled, single parents etc? No, they will have to pay for it themselves when (and if) they are in a financial position to do so.

Igglystuffedfullofturkey · 10/12/2010 10:25

No-one has replied to my point about the Bullingdon club.

why is that ok?

ChickensHaveNoMercyForTurkeys · 10/12/2010 10:26

Well, Iggly that's ok because it was just high jinks you see. But the great unwashed expecting a say in their future? How very dare they Hmm

Thingumy · 10/12/2010 10:26

If my child was out there pissing on statues, hanging off the cenotaph and hurling objects at police horses,I 'd be fucking ashamed.

[http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1337315/TUITION-FEES-VOTE-PROTEST-Thugs-deface-Cenotaph-urinate-Churchill.html I don't see any 'lout's here just twats]]

Thingumy · 10/12/2010 10:27

here

Igglystuffedfullofturkey · 10/12/2010 10:28

As I suspected Chickens. As long as you can pay for the damage, it's ok!

Thing, I'm not taking anything the DM has to say seriously.

iggly- you don't have to read the dm,the photos say alot eh

classydiva · 10/12/2010 10:31

the biggest problem is EMA. Some childrens parents will not be able to afford train fares for their kids to go to College, so those students will now face life with just GCSEs and no prospect of ever getting a decent job.

Prepare to see more McDonalds open.

Igglystuffedfullofturkey · 10/12/2010 10:31

Yes but they'll pick the photos to suit their agenda. So what if a minority did that. Bigger picture is that the majority did not. If they had of done, the stories this morning would have been a hell of a lot different. I don't think the police would have stood a chance if most people went mental.

If my child did that, I'd be proud that he had found his political voice.

Poogles · 10/12/2010 10:31

Look at those pictures in the link from Thingumy and please tell me how on earth that behaviour can be justified???

Setting fires risks the lives of innocent people, the fire brigade etc. Attacking police who are just trying to do their job and protect the public?

Please, I'm intrigued how any normal person can believe that this is justified.

Tiredmumno1 · 10/12/2010 10:32

No i will not re read your post nerdy, i dont take kindly to people who think violence is the way to go.

what about the tax payers who now have to pay for the clear up, should they go round to the houses of these violent yobs and smash them up just to make them feel better, its not going to happen is it?

anyone that condones attacking cars, hitting police with bars, kicking them and pelting them with stuff doesnt deserve to have a say, they let you down, and have now made everyone who was peacefully protesting look like idiots

Mumsnut · 10/12/2010 10:33

I remember being taught that violence didn't get the Suffragettes very far, Riven. A massive contribution from women during the first world war turned the tide (the largest Suffragettes group called a moratorium on violent protest).

NerdyFace · 10/12/2010 10:34

If the co-alition is justified in pissing on the entire country.

Some students can piss on churchil.
