to return shoes to clarks now that they are in the sale?

So I bought my 2 dd's shoes from Clarks for Christmas, £22 and £26. They haven't been worn yet and are still in the boxes as they've not been out of wellies.

I have just received an email from Clarks with their new sale and both shoes are now 50% off.

AIBU to take the first sets back and buy them again at sale price or is this very cheap?

We are really struggling this christmas as I am on maternity leave until January and currently on unpaid leave. I could definitely use the moeny for something else (shoes for myself would be a start).

I still have the receipt. I only bought them 2 weeks ago! Being bloody organised has cost me £24!!

Not unreasonable at all. However, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not sure they'd actually reimburse you the full price? Usually they'd refund at whatever current price is, to stop people doing exactly what you are wanting to do.

YANBU - If they've not been worn and you bought them recently I can't see the problem at all. Especially if you take them back to the shop but order online - no questions asked then.

No, I would do it!
We bought a keyboard for DD for Christmas and less than a week later it was 50% off so we went in and asked if we could be refunded the difference and they agreed (ELC). If you don't ask, you don't get! If you don't want to be that brazen (my DP has no shame!) take them back then buy them again later on! :)

If they have been out of your house (inside is ok, it's just like trying it on int he shop) then YABU

Oh Mumby would they do that do you think? Clarks are dear enough without knowing I could get them half price.

Everytime the girls wore them I'd be thinking I could have new shoes too! (not being greedy just really need new shoes)!

I think if you return them with receipt they'll give you the money you paid for them. It's only if you don't have a receipt that they'll only let you exchange for the sale value.

You won't get the full price without a receipt.
However if you have got it and they are still 'box fresh' then why not.?

I think they only refund at the sale price if you have no receipt but Lolabells says she has the receipt so she should get a full refund.

definitely have the receipt. I'm a receipt hoarder, have a box for them all so I'm not caught out with any broken presents etc.

I might try it then. I've ordered them (and another pair for DD1) to be delivered to one store and I'll return the bought ones to another store.

My DP was Blush at the thought of it but I am trying to be pennypinching sensible seeing as he is working hard to provide for us at the moment.

As I said, DP is much more brazen than me (I stayed in the car!) but I would have taken them back and bought them again later, so same end result!
He did phone up to check before we left so might be an idea to test the water before you go in and decide what to do based on the phone call!
We're in a similar situation to you - I'm off on maternity leave with no SMP in January and DP has just started work again after 3 months so every penny counts!

Mumby we're in the EXACT same situation. DP has also just returned to work after 3 months. Every penny indeed. :)

Depends where you bought them from anmd their returns policy - no legal rights to return them. But you might need to make sure that you can actually get them at the reduced price. If you go back later they might be gone.......

i would do it without any hesitation. They're obviously over-priced anyway if they can afford to sell them half-price!! Let's face it, they'll still be making a profit or they wouldn't be in business!

I've done this kind of thing before and see nothing wrong with it but am always surreptitious!

I'd say something like they haven't been worn yet due to the snow/rain whatever and Granny or whoever has offered to buy them their shoes as you're on mat leave. I find if I give a kind of human element and "poor me" slant, it usually works.

Then I'm very effusive with my thanks and say something like, "you've been so kind, now I'll be able to buy them a new winter coat" or something like that!!

Tough luck to anyone who thinks it's wrong. Money is tight for everyone!

Some credit card companies will refund you the difference if something you bought ends up in the sale - I know Barclay's used to do it, it may be worth a shot?

They have no obligation to refund you just because you don't want them any more - they may just give you a credit note.

But it's worth asking.

I often buy things quickly - because baby is crying and I'm in a rush - and then reconsider and take back with receipt for a refund. I've never had a problem anywhere. I've also done exactly what you want to do too - though I would probably take it back on one day/one shop and buy the cheaper version in another shop/on another day. Or get my DP to buy it for me.

A credit card company can not do that, it would be both impossible and illegal, unless of course they use their own money. And good luck with finding a bank that will hand you free money for no good reason.

I don't think it's cheap at all, just sensible. You usually can take things back to a shop within 14 or 28 days (depending on their policy) for a refund. Make sure they have the ones you want though first - would be gutting if you ended up with no shoes!
