to return shoes to clarks now that they are in the sale?

So I bought my 2 dd's shoes from Clarks for Christmas, £22 and £26. They haven't been worn yet and are still in the boxes as they've not been out of wellies.

I have just received an email from Clarks with their new sale and both shoes are now 50% off.

AIBU to take the first sets back and buy them again at sale price or is this very cheap?

We are really struggling this christmas as I am on maternity leave until January and currently on unpaid leave. I could definitely use the moeny for something else (shoes for myself would be a start).

My student job was in Clarks and people did this all the time- we didn't bat an eyelid!

This was 15 years ago, but I think their refund policy is even more generous than it used to be.

For me it would be a no brainer, and I think you should do it.

The money is better off in your pocket than theirs.

Good luck :)

Bonnie store cards used to offer an insurance policy (15 years ago) for this type of thing- I used to pay Top Shop a small premium every month and they refunded the difference if the item went in the sale within a certain time period. It encouraged me to spend more than I would normally have saved me loads of money when I was a student. Maybe Barclaycard did the same?

I used to manage a shoe department, people returned unworn shoes with receipts all the time. No big deal at all. Its only when you have no receipt that you get given the current selling value back as a gift card.

As long as you have the receipt and are within the time limit (usually 28 or 30 days with a lot of stores, but sometimes less - should say on the receipt somewhere) you'll be able to return and get a full refund in the original payment method with no issues or even offering reasons. Just a simple: 'I'd like to return these please' and there should be no problem with getting your refund. If the salesperson looks as if they want reasons just say your mum/gran/DP kindly bought shoes for the girls too and they don't need two sets.

Then send in DP in to buy them back (or even pick them up at a different branch if he is squeamish) and the store will be none the wiser.

You could be boldfaced (if you have the bottle for it) and try and return and rebuy the shoes in one transaction and they might well let you - but not all stores do, so its risky.

I also recall one occasion where a very difficult customer had been pestering me for a pair of size 4 silver sandals (sold out) and a pair were returned - with the woman returning them coming back almost immediately to re-buy them from a different salesgirl at a tenner instead of the original forty-quid... but by then I'd set them aside for difficult customer and given her a call to come get them, so the wannabe bargain hunter was out of luck.

So move fast to re-buy, or even call the store to make sure of their refund policy, and then send DH in to buy the marked down shoes before you go in and return the full-price ones.

Clarks will give you a full refund with receipt within 28 days.

Recently I tried on some shoes wasn't 100% sure re fit - they said take them try them at home on carpet and if they are not ok bring back within 28 days. I did and got a refund no trouble.

minibmw2010 · 08/12/2010 11:03

If their refund policy is a full refund, unworn, with receipt within 28 days then go for it !! Just take them back and say I'd like to refund, and rebuy at the cheaper price, thank you and be very polite and nice. I'm sure you won't be the first to do this. I have a friend who often does this with Karen Millen clothes if they go into the sale within the 28 days, so I'd be amazed if Clarks don't do it.

BoffinMum · 08/12/2010 11:08

Gap used to refund the difference if the goods came down in price within a certain time frame after you had bought them. I did think that was very customer friendly and my opinion of them went right up after this. Shame Clark's don't have a similar policy.

I would love to start a truly parent-friendly shoe store, by the way. Anyone else feel like this?

www.clarks.co.uk/HelpandInfo/CustomerCareReturnsPolicy

For an immediate refund, you can return the items to any Clarks store (excluding the Heathrow Airport, Factory Outlet/Discount, Channel Islands, Eire stores, Wholesale, or any other Clarks store outside the UK) within 28 days. You may also exchange your items in store.

For a full list of all the stores in your area that offer this service, input your location into our Store Locator and click Search. Any store listed as 'The Clarks Shop' will offer the Return to Store service. All other stores are either wholesale or independent outlets who are unable to offer this service at the current time.

What to do:-

  • Take your items to be returned to the Clarks store of your choice
  • You MUST have your despatch note and a completed returns note (on the reverse of your despatch note)
  • You MUST have the credit/debit card used to make the original purchase

If the item is in original condition, we will process the refund for you.

If you ordered online but opted to Collect from store, once you have paid for the item your right to return is the same. You can receive a full refund within 28 days of purchase, assuming you bring the item back in perfect condition along with your receipt. You will receive a refund by the same method as you paid.

hi i work for a company and we are very happy to do this for our customers. You dont have to tell them what you plan to do just ask for a refund and go back and buy them the next day!

why would you turn your nose up at saving your self money?

Elc offered to dothis for me when I happened to say my sons present had gone in the sale. All carried out in one transaction

countrybump · 08/12/2010 14:23

I would definitely return them and buy them in the sale. YANBU at all. They haven't been worn and you have the receipt. Perfectly OK in my book of reasonableness!

I would and wouldn't think twice about it. I did this with a tent I bought on line - it was reduced the day after I bought it.Phoned the company and got a refund of the difference.

LolaBellsAllTheWay · 08/12/2010 23:37

I have orderewd the shoes online but to be delivered into store so I will take them in once I'm notified shoes have arrived. If they arrive on time I will buy them at sale price then I will take the full price ones back to the other store (luckily two in my town).

So I just need to hope the shoes arrive on time, it said 5 working days but the weather here has been horrendous but hopefully normal service will have resumed by then!

DP has relented and is now less embarrassed that I am doing this! Grin

YANBU.

I spent £750 on a bathroom unit from B&Q, only to be given a voucher the next day for 20% off. I ordered a second unit at a discount, then took the original one back to the store. It was a bit of a hassle lugging it back there, but worth it for the saving!!

ShoppingDays · 09/12/2010 00:03

YABU and sneaky. If you want to buy things at sale price then wait for the sale.

Kitta · 09/12/2010 07:56

I would, I see nothing wrong with this at all. You are the customer, you're just being canny at least you're still spending money at their shop.

I've done this before, ordered on-line, the next day noticed that the sale had started at midnight, re-ordered at sale price and returned the full price items to the local shop and when asked why was returning, told them.
Cash girl laughed and said she'd never thought of doing that but she would next time.

ccpccp · 09/12/2010 08:09

I always do this when recently bought items go on sale. You dont need to explain yourself to the sales assistant - just get your full price refund then buy the same again.

Make sure they have them on the shelves before you return them though! Returning an item then asking for it back is a tad cheeky.

Higher value items - its often worth asking the assistant for a refund of the difference first, rather than go through the pain of returning them.

dietcokesholidaysarecoming · 09/12/2010 08:31

Order online and collect them on a different day.

I have just had boots refunded that I got for half price on eBay.

Legally you don't have a right to refund unless faulty but like most high street retailers clarks offer a' changed your mind' policy which means you can return them.
