My hearts sinks when I hear the baby monitor...

Surely I cannot be the only one who feels like that and sometimes thinks 'oh piss off'....

YANBU Switch it off perhaps? If you don't live in a mediaeval castle with foot-thick walls or distant wings, you don't really need a monitor to hear a baby crying in another room.....

Our house is tiny so I soon gave up on the baby monitor, it makes the noise of baby crying even more horrendous IME. Can't you turn off the noise and just have the flashing lights on it instead? Ours used to flash red if DD was crying.

YANBU. We haven't moved DS (7 months) into his own room yet, but DP and I both get that horrible sinking feeling when we hear the first 'Wah!', knowing it precedes a full-on 'PICKMEUPI'MAWAKELOOKAFTERMEEEEEEEEEARGH!'.

Maybe we're spoiled, but DS slept through from really early on and has only just started waking up in the middle of the night, so we're not used to it.

Not with a monitor, but I felt just the same half an hour ago whe I heard DD wake up from a far too short nap. Am now stuck on her room holding her as she's asleep again but wakes up when I try to lay her down. Really wanted to finish a job application this afternoon (that is, of course, for Her Own Good, but she doesn't seem to agree that we need money). It does make your heart sink when you're hoping for a bit of time. YANBU.

YANBU - it now ranks as the worst sound in the world for me. Every evening I find myself staring at it whilst watching TV just praying that it doesn't light up

when ds wakes in the morning i feed him then put him back to bed and switch the monitor off. it does him no harm to be awake in his cot. and i appreciate that extra hour or whatever without hearing every movement he makes.

and YANBU btw. i groan too when it he starts crying.

I'm very relieved to read this thread - I thought I was a bit of the useless mother to get so very wound up by the sound of her waking up. Glad I am not alone!

My dd is awake from her nap too early as well, so now I have crying baby in cot or tired crying baby in living room. Urgh.

I groan also, whether it's morning, noon or (middle of the) night.

Especially bad if you're stuck into something or sound asleep.

YANBU. When it's in the middle of the night and I'm in a nice deep sleep that sound makes me want to cry.

Well, I always think it's better for me to snap 'Oh, do fuck off and go back to sleep' to the monitor, which is a sufficient vent for me to then go upstairs saying 'Sshhh sweetheart, mummy's coming, you're OK' in a quiet soothing voice.

YABU for swearing at your baby through the monitor.and as for..

I do exactly the same as Poledra. Have a bit of a swear to myself about the genera contrariness of overtired babies and then go and be all affectionate and soothing. When she was tiny and terrible at napping it was the only thing that kept us all sane.

I don;t have a monitor but my hart does indeed sink when I hear DD2's dulcit tones telling me that nap time is over

sparkly - ds sleeps in a cot right next to my bed and when he wakes up in the morning he never wants feeding straight away so I put his mobile on and try to grab an extra half hour sleep before he starts actually wanting attention. It doesn't do him any harm and everyones happy.

I'm sure if the baby was distressed booyhohoho would see to him/her and not just ignore them.

My heart sinks too - worst is when I have just sat down with a plate of food.

I don't have a baby monitor though (remember the red lights of doom from my babysitting days!). If she's really crying, I can hear her without one.

I have a feeling everyone has felt like this sometimes weather they admit to it or not. DD is currently very restless in her pram and im dreading her waking up too early cause we're in for a shit night if she does so YANBU!

I was wailing saying the exact same thing to DP earlier, our baby monitor gets some filthy looks...in face, gotta run! Grrr

It's OK to feel that way, and it's OK to vent it a little in a harmless way. No-one is suggesting running into the baby's room yelling and swearing are they? Of course not. Having every moment spoken for and having very little time to yourself is part of parenthood but that doesn't make it easy, and smetimes something's gotta give. As long as that something is rolling eyes at the baby monitor, no harm done, and it enables mummy to take a deep breath and be back to lovely sunny mummy by the time she reaches baby.

So no, YANBU and don't feel guilty!
