Surely I cannot be the only one who feels like that and sometimes thinks 'oh piss off'....

Me too. Once I have both DSs in bed it is my sitting down time. DS2 has been really unsettled all week and needing lots of soothing. I do it but at the end of the day I just want to have a bit of a break!!

DrSeuss · 07/12/2010 18:43

Totally reasonable! You are a person with wants, needs, interests and feelings, you are not just a mother. Anyone who claims they like being woken up in the middle of much needed sleep or is happy when their first sit down of the day is a liar!

DaisySteiner · 07/12/2010 18:47

Mine have not been babies for some time, but I can still remember that feeling of anxiously waiting to see if that snuffle or whimper is going to turn into a proper i'm-awake-get-me-up cry!

monkeyflippers · 07/12/2010 18:48

It's exhausting being demanding on by a lovely cute little baby. The fact that they are lovely and cute doesn't change that. Don't feel bad!

Igglystuffedfullofturkey · 07/12/2010 19:39

Yanbu. I turn it down so I don't hear the whimpers only full blown yells. Much easier and I sleep better for it.

We used to have times where as soon as we sat down for dinner, DS would wake up and need resettling. That was tough!

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 07/12/2010 19:51

YANBU. DS2 (16 months)sleeps in an adjoining room to ours and has not slept through the night yet. I have purchased ear plugs...I will still hear any loud wails but it should block out the grumbling and snuffling.

I once had a mini tantrum, with foot stamping and everything when I heard DD start crying after I had put the children to bed and I had a glass of wine in one hand and a sneaky cigarette in the other, all whilst hanging out of the door so the smoke wouldnt get in (futile I know) In my defense I was due on and I get rather tetchy before im on!

Niceguy2 · 07/12/2010 19:56

YANBU but......

It'd be worse if it didn't go off!

YABU - I don't even need a monitor, I have a baby who doesn't sleep unless on me!

I do know how you feel though. My worst bit is when I put her down asleep in her hammock and two minutes later her eyes just pop open. By 2am and the 6th time I usually crying!

imnotperfect · 07/12/2010 20:03

i totally agree passionkissunderthemistletoe my heart sinks cos you can guarantee ds will wake when i want to eat, shit or shower, so no burpsYANBU

smokinaces · 07/12/2010 20:05

Mine is when I am just drifting off to sleep at 11/12pm and I hear "thump thump thump, creak" as one of the boys gets out of bed and opens their door. Then I either have to let them sleep with me (que kicking me all night) or spend an hour trying to get them back off whilst not waking the other (They're 4 and 2)

My heart sinks everytime a floorboard creaks when I go to bed!

happygilmore · 07/12/2010 20:05

YANBU! Our cats seem even more disturbed by it than me though, they can't understand why they can here the shrieking yet not see DD...

smokinaces · 07/12/2010 20:05

YANBU btw!

GothAnneGeddes · 07/12/2010 20:21

"Just as Damon is getting all lovely" And how lovely he is Smile.

YANBU, we've all done it. You hear the wail and think 'Please, please go back to sleep, your nap hasn't been nearly long enough'.

My DD has just woken up for the third time tonight. Dinner went cold long ago, uneaten. Think I might just admit defeat and go to bed. I keep telling myself it's not her fault, she would enjoy a proper night's rest as well, if only she knew how.

pinkhyena · 07/12/2010 21:48

YANBU! Definately not! My LO is only 6 weeks old so he's not really in a sleeping/waking patten but he does seem to know exactly when i'm about to eat something. Its the middle of the night that I really hate, i'll lie there for ages listening to him grumping thinking 'please go back to sleep please go back to sleep' but he never does. This morning he woke up early and I decided I wasn't going to go in if he was just having a bit of a whinge so I got back into bed and managed to doze for another half hour.

PassionKissUnderTheMistletoe · 07/12/2010 22:30

Lol at Riven. I watch Damon on ITV Player so I can pause if necessary!

2rebecca · 08/12/2010 00:02

Ours was rarely used as we didn't live in a mansion and unless in the garden easlily heard a baby cry and if he/she was just wimpering it wasn't worth worrying about.

ChippingIn · 08/12/2010 00:08

YANBU and anyone who tells you they haven't done this is lying a saint.

epicfail · 08/12/2010 06:54

YANBU

Mine are 15 and 13 ( years that is! ) old, and just reading this thread has revived memories that have the back of my neck prickling and my stomach lurching.
