Snow stops EMA

I think it's a bummer that DS will not be getting his EMA because the college was shut due to the snow.
His £30 pw pays for his train fair (weekly ticket is £30).

He only did not get it because there was no one in to deal with it besides what they pay this week he gets next week.

He should do what my son does, buy the ticket for the whole term and save some money.

They only get it for weeks that they attend school/college anyway, surely if it pays for his train ticket but hes not at college he doesn't need it anyway.

its paid on fridays.....so he's not got it in his bank to use for next weeks fares presumably....

He gets it on a Friday and it pays for his weekly ticket on the following Monday.

DS's is paid fortnightly anyway as it stands at the moment his school is still off Monday so he'll not get any for next week.

thankfully dd only has a short walk up the hill!

hers has been delayed before...she got 3 weeks worth in one go last week as the teacher had messed up....£90 in her bank!

If he hasn't attended college due to the snow then he shouldn't be paid it

EMA is paid to cover the costs incurred in attending College. If you haven't been in then you don't get paid. Colleges can pay at their discretion, but EMA guidance states that anyone who misses more than one day for ANY reason shouldn't be paid.

EMA payments were part of my old job.

It's not one day,it can be stopped for being late for a class.
Minutes even.
But no one stops the teachers pay if they just don't turn up.
And they do.(just not turn up that is)

The trains were running.
He could easily have gone in,and would have done so, but the college website said they were closed.
The college was closed because staff could not get in by car.Hmm

dd was sick one day,she got paid

she has been on a work experience all week,she got paid

she never takes a bus or train,.....walks,she gets paid

How could the Teacher mess up?

I thought that they just signed the form and the pupil/office did the rest.

the teacher....6th form.....had to do the registers dd said,and some other teacher hadnt completed it properly....think that was how....happened a few times now

We do our payments on a Mon/Tues to make it in a bank account by a Friday. Will they be back paying it for next week presuming they can get in to do it or are they saying no because of the snow? Mind you I could do it from home if I ever got snowed in.

If the school is closed or even if a student does not get their EMA, all they have to do is ask their tutor to complete an EMA Authorisation form and forward it to the EMA administrator. It is a simple as that, it might be delayed by a week but the following week your DC will get double. Authorising EMA is not set in stone and teachers can use their discretion. I know I have authorised payments when students have missed lessons because of going to the doctor's, dentist, interviews etc.

If the teacher fails to do register properly (like someone arrives after register and they forget to update it) then they have to get it signed. I am a sixth form tutor at a school. If the college is closed then there will be no-one to process it.

If I didn't turn up to work when the school was open (ie today) even if it was because I was snowed in, then they would dock my pay.
