Snow stops EMA

I think it's a bummer that DS will not be getting his EMA because the college was shut due to the snow.
His £30 pw pays for his train fair (weekly ticket is £30).

However, if a child has not been in all week then they are not entitled to EMA for that week

That's usually the reason for non payment in our college ILoveTIFFANY - we can't pay if there is a single absence for a week or if the register was marked inaccurately but we can make a payment later if the register is amended.

Op I am assuming that college wasn't closed all weeks so he bought a weekly ticket and needs one for next week, but a days enforved absence means he can't get it? Is that right?

If that's the case I don't think yanbu- money was spent to enable him to attend college whenever open, not his fault not open.

I see why its been stopped but it does seem a little harsh

The system should be able to differentiate between a student who reliably attends every day available to him, and one who takes the piss.

The alternative system would be to be able to pay say 4 days if college is closed due to college decisions- so at least he'd only have to find one day's ticket money.

The FE College I used to work at was quite able to have managed that, but it would depend on the establishment I guess.
