to be getting in a panic about this?

Yesterday (1st Dec) was out and about in car with babies and a list of jobs to do. One being to stop at post office and get tax disk (I know it was last minute). Anyway during my jobs run I skidded into a ditch. We were all ok but car a mess.
Anyway car gone off on a lorry today and the lorry man commneted that the tax disk was a day out of date. Off course DH has been to post office today but now I am wetting my pants the insurance might not pay out :(
What do you think.

You get two weeks grace. The purchase will also be recorded on the DVLA's database so should be fine.

God I hope so.....big bucks I expect! DH is really cross with me :(

Was quite impressed with insurance company replacing both car seats. Just so glad my precious LO's are safe!

Do not worry. You have purchased a new VEL, which DVLA will know about and no one will bother about it being a day late.

I hate to say but it is an offence to drive a car without a valid tax disc and you do not get 2 weeks grace. Is it likely to be a write off because if its not going to cost much get a private quote and don't go through the insurance especially if no one else is involved.

You have your priorities straight shame about your D H - why is he cross? is it because you skidded into a ditch on purpose? What a twat he is, I'd be livid with him for being such a prick about it!

When I crashed my car and stacked both ends and wrote the car off my DH (was dp back then) just said it's fine as long as you're ok and came home and cuddled me THAT is the right response!

Danthe, in theory yes it is an offence and there is no 2 week grace but Insurance companies, nor anyone else will not bother their arses about this.

No he is cross because I had a month to get a new disk and just kept forgetting. The thing is I do everything! I was the one juggling work/babies/home/bills and just forgot! It won't be a right off just needs a new bumper, lights etc. Danthe4th your really worrying me now :(

You can now do it online thats why you no longer have 2 weeks grace.
If you can prove you were heading for the post office for when it opens at 9am they may except.I'm sorry to worry you but leaving buying a tax disc to the last day has caused many an argument in this house.

Shall I offer to send it to the garage when they call tomorrow to give me an update or not say anything unless they do?

wounln't worry, I expect Lorry man just said it as a passing comment and if you'd have sorned your car and was in the drive and a tree fell on it your insurance would pay out iyswim, (fully comp obv but you can see what i'm getting at )

I'd prob lie and say that your tax disc has just arrived in the post should you drop it down to them or wait untill you know if the car can be fixed.

Erm, the insurance company could choose not to pay out as you were driving illegally. Did you actually buy the Tax Disc in the end or not?

If there was no other party involved, it is unlikely to be an issue.
Definately do not 2 weeks grace

Very very unlikely Insurers will refuse to pay due to no tax disc on 1st of the Month FGS!!
I am an insurance broker and would sort that out in no time. Don't worry - just buy it anyway on line - you won't be the first to forget!

Oh we brought it last night as soon as we had all got sorted out and safe etc. No one else involved.....except the ditch! Gosh I am feeling sick now :(

I would take it down to the garage tomorrow if you can as when i crashed my car the insurance company sent someone out to check the damage (was a right off though).

However from my limited knowledge in a repair situation they will normally only check the data base and that will say that you have a taxed car as you bought it yesterday..

On a related note, does an out-of-date MOT nullify your car insurance?

I rang because due to a change of registration and on my car, I can't renew on line due to not having a V5C. Tax due today- I'd been hoping the V5C would arrive this morning and I could sort things out, but the weather meant no post anyway. The lady in Swansea was very clear that I did not need to worry as there was a two week grace period and she could see in the system the V5C had been posted so should arrive within that period allowing me to sort it all out.
