to be distraught at being the only place in the UK without snow?

Okay, I get that it makes life tough. I live in the middle of nowhere and we had our work cut out the last two years. But I am GUTTED that the rest of the UK has a big freeze and are all talking about snow (to the left, right, up and down according to the weather maps) and we have just got a feeble little meh cms of the stuff.

It's like there's a really exciting event that the Cotswolds aren't allowed to take part in.

(childish rant over, toys back in pram, no longer lying on the floor, licky tissue applied).

Yy, not envying the slush that will be clogging the SE and NE over Christmas!

FreakoidOrganisoid · 02/12/2010 10:03

Another one in North Somerset without snow. Had a few flakes earlier. It is bloody freezing though.

steppemum · 02/12/2010 10:09

we are cotswolds, WE WANT SNOW
ok sorry all those who don't like it we can walk to school and dh works from home. but just one great big lovely thick fall, maybe friday night so we can have one decent days sledging and then go home. Then it can all melt!!

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 02/12/2010 10:13

You can have some of mine. I have loads giving it away in fact.
Me and ds2 are stranded in the house during the day it has been a total nightmare. Wish the head would shut the school because I am totally relying on other people to get dd to school and ds1 getting cabin fever as he hasn't been in nursery, can get him there at 9 but not back at half 11.

How would you like it delivered? Xmas Grin I can spare a good 5-6 inches and still have some left.

moonbells · 02/12/2010 10:17

I like snow, as long as I don't have to feel guilty when I don't go to work because of it. Much more fun as a kid than someone who lives up a lethal hill, 13 miles from work...

I lost so many days of ann leave last season. I saved a lot this year, just in case.

My poor parents currently are snowed in, with 15+ inches of it. They are 78, so it's not funny. Though glad they have a bread machine, so they can make some if they run out, and lots of powdered milk for hot drinks if they run out of that. But their central heating's not working downstairs and the plumber can't get through. Luckily they have a gas fire.

It seems most of the country have at least a dusting of snow now ... the Cotswolds must be due some soon Grin

At 6 pm last night (Weds) the BBC weather was showing big graphic snowflakes pounding southern Hampshire. Again. And once again I glanced outside to find nary a flake. Nada.

At 8pm another glance- still nuffink. Then at 11pm, lo! 2" had mysteriously fallen whilst I wasn't looking! This morning, there's a good 5" and it's still falling albeit tiny icy flakes.

I can't venture to work (though I am front line NHS Sad)and the 2 women who live near the hospital and always provide the reliable 'snow-scenario' back up are in Sydney, the schools are closed but luckily we were told early, and DH who manages an NHS helpdesk is working from home so the phone is ringing constantly. Oh, and he was 3/4 of the way through the -ahem- bowel prep for an endoscope this afternoon that won't be happening.

Oh well, I will bundle the DSs up and go for another bracing walk.

Danthe4th · 02/12/2010 10:35

Also Cotswolds and still waiting to make a snowman, but the side roads and paths are absolutely lethal.
I don't think we are going to get any now and on the news this morning it sounds like its going to warm up slightly meaning rain i suppose.

Figgyrolls · 02/12/2010 10:59

Well the only bonus today has been that DH can't get to work and therefore my birthday girl has both parents at home, but doesn't have the nursery birthday party or the special tea we were going to do(we were going out for a family supper) not huge any of it and I individually wrapped up the books etc so it looks like she has loads of presents so we can draw out the whole experience!

mummylin2495 · 02/12/2010 11:00

normally everywhere but Bournemouth gets it whilst we all look on enviously, not this time though,we finally have a decent amount.i love it Xmas Grin

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 02/12/2010 11:12

Yeah!!!! Finally a dusting (already melting) of snow, Enough to keep the DD's happy but not to cause everything to grind to a halt. Sun's out now so will probably be gone by tomorrow.

I'm in South Devon BTW and we NEVER get snow!!!

mumbar · 02/12/2010 11:14

ampere I'm Fareham and we have about 5" too and more is falling. Think all schools in Hampshire are closed.

It was a bit like evryone else had it and now its our turn.

Not looking likely they will open again tomorrow either.

DownyEmerald · 02/12/2010 11:48

I'm cotswold edge and nothing here (well we had a little bit monday night that mostly went tuesday), and a few pathetic flurries this morning.

I want sledges, snowmen, beauty, fun.

It was handy tho' that didn't snow at the weekend when parents were travelling up and down from southwest coast.

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 02/12/2010 11:50

YANBU. I'm on the North-east coast and normally we're the ones who get no snow while the rest of the country is wading hip deep through the stuff. It made me feel a bit meh too.

Of course I'm sick of the bloody stuff now.

livvylouis · 02/12/2010 12:09

Not much in Worcestershire, enough to slow the traffic and turn every car park into a ice rink, but no school closures. Quite annoying really if it's going to snow I wish it was enough so we all had to stay at home!

pourmeanotherglass · 02/12/2010 12:50

I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of snow (Bristol)

If I'm going to be this cold, I might as well have some pretty snow to play with.

messylittlemonkey · 02/12/2010 12:51

Right, I understand that it's gutting when the snow is all over the news, but REALLY, we have over a foot here, school is closed, can't really go out on foot as have 8mo DD in pram which is a nightmare to push, so we're cooped up and have been for the past few days. I'm getting cabin fever and DD1 is BORED!

schoolsecretary · 02/12/2010 13:51

None here Merseyside.

PatTheHammer · 02/12/2010 13:59

Downyemerald- we have had those flurries this morning, pathetic and a bit like dandruff!!

Messylittlemonkey- Got any DVD's? or just let DD1 play on the laptop if she is old enough, that's what my 3yr old did last year after we had exhausted baking, the craftbox and my patience. Or put your decorations up?Wink

Hope you manage to get out soon everybodySmile

CheerfulV · 02/12/2010 14:00

No snow here by the sea in mid Cornwall. Bah.

bebeinamanger · 02/12/2010 14:09

I'm Gloucestershire, we had a sprinkling & it was gone by the afternoon. That was Monday & we have had no more since! I am distraught too, I love snow!

I fully appreciate it is a nightmare for people who need to travel & people who live in very remote places or have to drive to school/work.

I live about 700yards from a small supermarket, DH can work from home, I do not need to go out & I would love snow & feel very hard done by that everywhere else (seemingly) has some lots!! Xmas Wink

PatTheHammer · 02/12/2010 14:16

bebeinamanger- How can you live in Gloucestershire and love the snow? Not only does it drift like mad around here we also have one of the worst, badly maintained shoddy road networks in the country. With the exception of the M5, which is usually all they bother gritting.

stay out of gloucestershire damn snow

bebeinamanger · 02/12/2010 14:32

PatTheHammer - like I said, I don't have to go out & I don't have far to trudge for 'supplies'! Wink Wouldn't drive out of town in the snow if you paid me, you're right, they never grit anything round here!

josy · 02/12/2010 15:49

Edinburgh covered in snow(has not stopped most of the day), schools & nurseries closed.
On the bright side shops quiet so xmas shopping a doddle, down side no sledges to be had anywhere, think i'll buy one next summer.
