To think Joggers don't own the pavement?

I am so peeved! Lol!

The street I live on seems to have tens of runners on it all through the day which is fine, although it makes me feel guilty that I don't join in.

Anyway I was walking my dog on the lead the other day and bear in mind it is icy and my dog leaps out of it's skin because a jogger has come up behind us and stood on his paw. I kept walking and he did it again. There were cars on the road so he couldn't run on the road to overtake me and as he had done this twice, had no said excuse me and I was training my dog I just kept on walking. He then ran on the road and started swearing at me for not getting out of the way.

Why do joggers think they have special rights over the pavement? I have never been pushed off the road by a fast walker. They just slow down and at a convenient time try and overtake.

Well he ran up behind me and expected me to get out the way. Didn't say excuse me once - I didn't even know he was behind me. Surely if someone is behind you they either say excuse me or they wait until they can overtake! I don't think dog owners own the pavement but why do joggers think everyone should get out of their way? I would have tried to move the dog (but not myself) off the pavement if he had been coming towards me.

Perhaps he was out of breath? Y'know, from jogging? If he had to wait for you to get out of the way, then you were blocking the pavement, and interrupted the flow of his jogging. A small annoyance, sure, but annoying enough to stop him thanking you I think.

He is as entitled to use the pavement as you - should he have to thank you for deigning to allow him to continue on his way?

Dog owners don't own the pavements.
I'm a dog owner and i pull my dog out of the way of all other pedestrians.

Interrupted the flow of his jogging?
Big fucking deal.
He might have interrupted the flow of MY walk.

If he was out of breath he wouldn't have managed to hurl so much abuse at me. No, his attitude was, "I am a jogger, my goal to jog is more important than you or your f'ing dogs paws and I don't care that your dog nearly ran onto oncoming traffic because I am a jogger and my needs are more important than you"! Hmm

It is bloddy stupid and rude to run up beind someone, inflict pain and surprise on an animal and surprise on the dog owner without making your presence known in advance so I could have moved my dog out of the way.

The more I think about it he was such a twat. I have a massive german shepherd and I am trying to train him to be beautifully behaved out on the street. Who would run up behind a massive dog! Hmm

YANBU most joggers seem selfishly bent on their own fitness obsession...they frequently dash past me and annoy the hell out of me as I am WALKING on the path...if you want to bloody run then go to a field or track.

Pavements are for pedestrians and if you're running then you aint one.

Meeting joggers is an important part of training him on the street. But treading on his paw is awful.

It was twice and then a mouthful of abuse. Lucky for him I wasn't out with my old german shepherd which was a trained personal protection dog and would have gone for the jugular if anyone dared look at me the wrong way! Grin

I wonder if there is a Highway Code of speed allowed on a pavement? Off to google it! Wink

I am a runner (note: not jogger Grin) and my rule is always that the faster mover bears responsibility. So if I come up behind someone, I warn them, apologise if I take them by surprise and thank them as I pass.

I am always cautious with dogs as they can be over-excitable or frightened if approached by a fast-moving, panting, sweaty thing.

If runners are hell bent on not having thier run interupted they should take their training to a track FGS.

And treading on his paw? What a twat.

YABU.

The jogger has as much right to the pavement as you. However your dog has no rights and so you were not controlling it properly if the jogger couldnt get past. Its up to you to be aware of other pedestrians.

He probably did say 'excuse me' but you didnt hear as your dog zig-zagging a drunken path from turd to turd.

LOL at the jogger being the selfish one.

My dog was walking at heel right next to my leg. We'd been on a 3 hour walk and he was tired so he had no interest in doing anything other than walking obediently by my side.

How should I be aware of someone running up behind me, in the same way I don't hear cyclists zooming past if they don't ring a bell? And he wasn't aware of anyone as he had headphones in and was happy to stand on my dog - who was not zig-zagging - twice!

I also must add that it is a very small pavement that two adults would struggle to walk side by side on. I would have moved to the side if I'd seen the jogger coming head on towards me (not that I should) but I feel if a walker/runner is coming from beind then they should be patient or say excuse me!

The jogger is probably exactly the same when on a bike, in a car, or on foot - one of those irritating people who thinks they shouldn't have to slow down or deviate from their path for anyone or anything.

OP, YANBU. Pavements aren't conveyer belts so NO-ONE should expect to be able to move at their pace AT ALL TIMES, joggers, doggers or otherwise!

I would have given him abuse for treading on the dog's paw, how rude!

I go out with a running club twice a week. We manage to get all 40 or more of us down the pavements without standing on dogs or swearing at people. And it's a club rule to always,always say 'thank you' if people step to one side for us. People do look surprised and amused to get 40 consecutive 'thank yous' though Grin
