To think Joggers don't own the pavement?

I am so peeved! Lol!

The street I live on seems to have tens of runners on it all through the day which is fine, although it makes me feel guilty that I don't join in.

Anyway I was walking my dog on the lead the other day and bear in mind it is icy and my dog leaps out of it's skin because a jogger has come up behind us and stood on his paw. I kept walking and he did it again. There were cars on the road so he couldn't run on the road to overtake me and as he had done this twice, had no said excuse me and I was training my dog I just kept on walking. He then ran on the road and started swearing at me for not getting out of the way.

Why do joggers think they have special rights over the pavement? I have never been pushed off the road by a fast walker. They just slow down and at a convenient time try and overtake.

Apology accepted. Thank you.

Lunatic!

to be fair, i don't like dogs (scaredy wuss) but I think it is v unreasonable of him to have trodden on your dog twice and not apologised. you are right, he should have said excuse me and let you move aside when it is safe to do so. I hope you dog is ok (from a safe distance)

ccpccp · 01/12/2010 14:46

I love dogs, grew up owning two of them and would have some now if I didnt work, but too many people treat their precious pooches better than they'd treat a fellow human being.

The jogger trod on your dogs paw. Not - your dog nearly tripped the jogger. It says a lot about your mindset TBH.

I think you should write a short note of apology, slip a crisp 10 pound note in, and leave it on the path for the jogger to find on his next run.

Ormirian · 01/12/2010 14:57

Of course he should have said sorry. Poor dog.

But as a runner may I make a plea for all slow pavement users to please try to look out for those travelling a little faster and not shoot them dirty looks if they say 'excuse me', as although I am aware I don't own the pavement it isn't really unreasonable for me to want to overtake when you are walking at the pace of a snail, are walking two abreast, are the size of a small house and pushing oversized buggies.

Thanks

Ormirian · 01/12/2010 14:59

Oh yeah and while we are at it, I love dogs and welcome a chat with any dog whilst out running, but please would dog owners refrain from using their leads as a trip wire when I plod past you. Thankyou again.

RedSuedeShoes · 01/12/2010 15:32

How did my dog trip up the jogger when the jogger was behind us? Hmm He was clearly trying to push the unsuspecting creature out of the way! Dog and I didn't even hear or see the jogger because....guess what...he was behind me!

tsk! Do dog walkers own the pavements??!!

Associated is the horsey lot who amble around two abreast blocking traffic. Beautiful animals. Arrogant riders though.

Can I do a big "boo" to the irritating joggers who insist on running through our local dog park?

The dog park exists so small children, dogs, and other folks can all have their free run in different bits of the park. We dog people always keep our dogs in there. It is almost like a toddler group in terms of how we interact.

There is a small but vocal contingent of joggers who insist on using it, and complain of being "chased" by dogs - the dogs are normally just running about, and the dog section is signposted and fenced off with a stile. My dog is too big and stupid to come back when called, so she is normally charging round on a lungeing rein made for a horse. Yes, it is a trip hazard, but it is visible.

Boo.

I'm a jogger AND a dog owner.

I'd say this man was just a dog hating, arrogant twat and you should have 'accidently' kicked him in the shins as he passed.
It wouldn't have hurt him to have said, 'excuse me'
Just because you have a dog with you it doesn't mean you deserve to be treated like 2nd class citizen.

I can't imagine running so close to somebody that you'd 'accidently' tread on their dog!

I wonder what he does if he comes across a little old lady with one of those pull along trolley things?
If you run in a built up area, you have to accept people might slow you down occasionally.

Ormirian · 01/12/2010 16:30

I wasn't talking about you OP.

My parent's dog is a nice-natured but loud little JR. They have a big garden with a drive that runs alongside the road for a few hundred yards. The police had a complaint about him from a cyclist who was upset by a vicious dog who barked loudly at him from the top of the wall. Police came to investigate to be greeted by tiny, tail-wagging, very happy to see him, dog. He had a cup of tea and went away.

I think those who are scared of dogs tend to misinterpret all dog actions as quite dangerous.

Orm, I was replying to CraigRevelTwat not you! Grin

Good Lord RSS!! Jerk. Twat. Lovely of you. Your aggression becomes you. Even more sympathetic to the poor sod who 'upset you' so much you had to write about it on the internet. Though it allegedly happened "the other day", so in a moment of boredom....

Ephiny · 01/12/2010 17:07

I've been barged into and once actually pushed off the pavement by joggers, it's very annoying, especially the one who then swore at me, presumably because he was inconvenienced by having to interrupt his 'rhythm' in order to shove me into the road. Some seem to think the pavement is their own personal gym and no one else has the right to be using it for its intended purpose, i.e. walking from place to place!

Of course the huge majority of runners are fine, but you do get the odd one...
