OP what do you think public sector jobs are and why do you think they are cushy? Serious question as it does confuse me as to why people think private sector employees work harder. Also do you think it is a good idea to make thousands of these public sector workers unemployed and dependent upon benefits? Please do explain the logic of your opinions.

OP I suppose compared to the hours that I worked in the private sector my hours were in your world "cushy" - a 45hr week compared to an 80hr+ week.

What is conveniently forgotten is that for the convenience of working 40% less hours I took a 70% paycut.

My DH is in the forces. He spent 8 months - working usually 12-18 hour days, 6 days a week in the Middle East. He had one week off during that time. To be fair he had a lot of time off when he came home, but that isn't really the point.

My private sector job is a lot more cushty.

Having said that I do think that given that it is public money, it is sensible to review where it is going, and find out why for eg sickness rates in areas of the public sector are high vs private sector.

My DH has a really cushy job, he is a teacher. Yes, he does have lots of really long holidays but, he is out of the door at 7.30am and generally not home until 7.oo at night. He then spends another hour or so on preparation and a whole day at the weekend preparing.
He does have an easy life compared to some.
He isn't risking his life (forces, police or fire service) but he works fucking hard and his salary doesn't reflect the four degrees he has.

My DH is a firefighter. Is that a 'cushy' job in your opinion? My DH would beg to differ. It's bloody hard work, and he gets paid a pittance. The work is hard, and can often be traumatic.

I don't often swear but I really want to tell you to piss off OP.
