OK this thing about what do people do while their DCs are at school all day?

In 6 hours

Well am I the only one who thinks 6 hours is no time (unless you're watching Big Brother of course). If I have the day off when DCs are at nursery I get them up and dressed, MN, drop them off, go to the supermarket, come home, MN, have lunch, put some washing on, MN, put a load of drying in, lots of MNing, quick tidy and hoover, MN then it't pick up time again. 6 hours can whizz by! And as for people who have DCs in half days at nursery I don't know why they even bother to go home in between :o

YANBU time flies when you're mning busy.

I found plenty of MNing to do when I was a unemployed and I didn't even have children.

Incredible, isn't it? How time can fly... Amazingly some people manage to work and do all this as well!

I find sleeping eats up a lot of time.

I know DC1 is at nursery for 2.5hrs in the afternoons, by the time I walk up to drop him and do a bit of shopping and have a coffee walk back home, it's almost time to go get him again.

I had six hours to myself.

It's incredible what I didn't do: I did not manage to:
make the school sandwiches
make dinner
make food for myself at lunch (or does marmite toast count?)
do any studying whatsoever
or any housework.

I did manage to:
feed the rabbit
rake the leaves
set up the Playmobil advent calender
fall asleep in front of the sofa in front of Mad Men.

I think I need be a bit more productive with my time.

yes BCO that's exactly what I mean. By the time you get home, surely you can't start anything knowing you have to go out again

when my youngest starts school I fully intend to spend a couple of months MNing, watching daytime TV and sleeping. By that time I will have earned it!!

You're right, 6 hours is nothing. By the time you've done a supermarket trip, some washing, cleaning and cooking, there's no time left!

I fully understand that some manage to do all that whilst working FT, but I bet they don't get to sit in front of Eastenders at 7.30 like I do

UQD - i find time to do all this and work as well! it's called owning your own business and having no customers

6 hours is npt a long time. I can see how the time could be filled.

I'm a useless housewife and I actually find that I get more done if I am working as I work better under pressure. I am extremely crap at all types of homemaking and I should have been born into royalty. I can't even make a bed properly and wouldn't have a clue how to iron a shirt.

Does anyone else ever get stressed when they realise it's nearly pick up time and they've done nothing to show for the day? If I haven't got anything to do I always find stuff, and if for some reason I can't then I don't like it because I feel like my life is slipping away a day at a time.

I'm not a SAHM, btw, just unemployed!

children should be in school for 8 hrs at least

I think the argument would be that working parents then do all of that and work all day.

Am not making any judgement here by the way. However as presumably working parents also make dinner / clean / wash up / have clean clothes it must seem like that whole school day is free.

I walk the dog for an hour and 20mins. Come home - do shred aerobics dvd. Have a shower. Have lunch. Load the dishwasher.

feed chickens, rabbits, guineapigs. MN for an hour. Go back to school.

This is to do with who owns the time.

If it's you r own free time, it speeds past as you piss about.

If someone is paying you for your time and you have to work hard, then you get one heck of a lot done
